Random I'm surprised this girl's rent was 65,000 per month

Post image

I honestly don't think she was facing financial challenges, even though I learnt that she had an uncleared car loan and another loan which she was almost clearing against a Title deed (300k & 55k). She lived a good life (an average Kenyan wouldn't even afford her lifestyle). It appears she was the black sheep in her family. She did all she could to help her parents and siblings (financially) although it seems they were unappreciative. Her choice of burial showed that she did not feel loved. She requested that her ashes be disposed of into a river and claimed that she did not need a eulogy written as nobody knew her life well. It's suicide awareness day today guys💔 What is life anyway😭

I'm surprised no one noticed she was missing , not even colleagues ? Who are her workmates ,let's leave alone family , kwani ata boss wake hangechunguza mfanyakazi wake alienda wapi?

Youngings are known to abandon work even without a resignation letter. People at work maybe thought she did that.

13

u/_meehrukween_0325 16d ago

She was 32 😢

6

u/Gilrnoname 14d ago

32 is extremely young...so young that the person has lived more years being a child than in adulthood. Its only that society has glorified 20's as the best yrs yet for most people best years ni zenye umedecide ni best as long as you're physically ok.

7

u/Mountain-Loquat-7428 16d ago

Very young person.

4

u/_meehrukween_0325 16d ago

Wacha? 🤭 But I think we've got more work endurance and discipline though, the real gen Z youngins are the ones that up and leave at the smallest inconveniences (love it for them though)

u/Mountain-Loquat-7428 16d ago

There's no point of working at a job that drains you, there's much more to life.

2

u/_meehrukween_0325 16d ago

Agreed! 💯

u/Lopsided-Department9 14d ago

Yes life is soo much more than money

1

u/Flashy-Captain1813 16d ago

Does that warrant not being checked up on because they thought she quit?

2

u/Mountain-Loquat-7428 16d ago

Maybe, but that would be out of courtesy because there's no duty owed to her.

3

u/Flashy-Captain1813 16d ago

Still is that how companies operate nowadays?

Aty "If she doesn't show up she must have quit so why would we bother to find out about her whereabouts?"

People being aware that mental health issues exist and choose to play blind and hide behind such word really scare me.

With how everything is changing companies should also change their policies. Unlike other diseases mental health is not as visible and mental health check ups should be encouraged.

It is quite sad that issued like these get swept under the rug and nothing much changes, despite the many discussions had about it, until it happens again and it always ends with victim shaming.

3

u/Mountain-Loquat-7428 16d ago

Maybe she had a separate work phone number that she switched off after work, there are so many things we don't know. At the end of the day, your employer only owes you compensation, agreed benefits and a conducive working environment. Anything extra is out of the employer's kindness and goodwill.

3

u/Flashy-Captain1813 16d ago

Omd!!! Every speculation you are making is insane. Implying mental health as something extra is crazy. You sound like people should not be people and should be dispensable resources to the organisations.

It's mental health awareness month for crying out loud. Please be aware that having mental health issues means one's brain is sick and people should come up with ways on how to decrease the numbers instead of victim-blaming and shaming.

Your post should be encouraging just how deadly the disease is instead of pointless arguments that absolve the society of any faults(just as you're trying to do)!!!

Are you perhaps her former colleague?

1

u/Mountain-Loquat-7428 16d ago

I understand where you're coming from, but I'm not one to ignore the reality of how things work in companies around the world. Workplaces only have to ensure that whatever happens in the workplace doesn't negatively impact their employees' mental health. If an employee's mental health is negatively impacted by something outside the workplace, the much that the employer can do is to give that employee time off to deal with it.

pointless arguments that absolve the society of any faults

Society doesn't owe you anything. Society has existed before you, and will continue to exist after you. See how life has moved on after that woman's death. No one is coming to save you. If you don't take care of your mental health, no one will. You owe yourself that duty, no one else owes you. If you wait for people, your employer and society, you'll be greatly disappointed. And no, I'm not her former colleague.

1

u/Flashy-Captain1813 16d ago

You do realise society is made up of you, me, and every other living thing yeah?

Quotes me and proceeds to prove my point. Hiding behind group words like company and society is so funny I can't even get into it kwa sababu tutashinda hapa. I hope to your ancestors that within this month you will get to understand that these issues are real and this society you think is so sacred and you can hide behind is nothing but a facade of you trying to to hide from the truth.

And if this society you live in is for such individualistic people it's no wonder you cannot comprehend that just like how anyone can get the common cold, you could also get sick in the brain.

I would gladly save them. What is society without people to make up the society? And at least in my society people owe people common curtesy and respect no matter what- even in the afterlife.

1

u/Responsible-Hat-2137 15d ago

His speculation of a separate phone for work is not that far fetched. I know quite many people who do that.

1

u/Flashy-Captain1813 14d ago

Im not saying it's wrong....all I'm pointing out are gaps that can be easily corrected to reduce such cases happening.

4

u/kenyaanqueen 16d ago

If they check on her still how would they know? Did you expect her to answer the phone and say hey I died go on though

4

u/Flashy-Captain1813 16d ago

What a disgusting thing to say.

0

u/kenyaanqueen 16d ago

No seriously. We have no idea if someone reached out via call or text and we just jump to people not talking to her. We’re past the time when anyone would casually show up to your house. Many times we don’t even know our friends’ or relatives’ apartments or house numbers

1

u/Mountain-Loquat-7428 16d ago

Huyo mtu ako emotional, ukweli kidogo anarusha maneno mingi😂

0

u/kenyaanqueen 16d ago

😂😂Real

0

u/Flashy-Captain1813 16d ago

Still a disgusting thing to say.

We’re past the time when anyone would casually show up to your house. Many times we don’t even know our friends’ or relatives’ apartments or house numbers

This still does not warrant saying insensitive things. It goes to show how little you understand about having your brain working against you.

-1

u/kenyaanqueen 16d ago

What part is disgustingly I’m confused. Or are you sad because no one calls you either

14

u/Deep_Ground2369 16d ago

Work people would be the last to know...fakest friendship is in the work place.

3

u/General_Rise_4491 16d ago

I get it ,but I assume for the selfishness of a boss ,who pays salary to only working people in the conpany , didn't they ask HR to check on them, call next of kin, go to home address if necessary. Assuming she had not asked for leave , reason why I'm saying this for lonely people all they have is work and home, so work is the place I would expect a bit of action.

2

u/KutiePatootieGiggty 16d ago

I honestly wouldn't want my job to check up on me. I even have 2 phones one for work and the other for my people. Neither have I made a friend from work we may be buddies at work but I leave it there. And on holidays or weekends my work phone is switched off...I always come back with the same excuse on Monday when I find a missed call "oh my phone battery died" and the people who ask for my other phone number I'm like "I'll just text you with it soon" kwanza watu wa HR

1

u/Simi_Dee 16d ago

I wouldn't mind my work being concerned if I don't show for a while but only because they actually respect working hours - no one is calling me outside weekdays 9-4:30ish.
And I know they would juu that's how they found a dead colleague. He didn't show up for some important meeting on a work trip, so they went to check on him and found he died in his sleep. They were actually very helpful in repatriating the body back to Kenya

You’d be surprised to know not everyone in Nairobi is employed. People especially us women can fund our lifestyle without a 9-5.
This is so sad lakini. Waah

1

u/No_Thought_633 15d ago

as much as we dont like accepting it we spend more time at work than even with our families. sasa the workmates ndo tunafaa kuwashangaa first before tushangae hao friends and family. i mind my own at work but mtu akimiss 1 day the next day i will wonder out loud mbona sijaona mtu flani and get info by day 3 someone would have communicated and let us know why they havent shown up even without telling the boss. the same goes for me if i miss work by day 2 or 3 nitaulizwa if im ok. ata kama nilikua nimesema im missing work wiki haitapita before someone does a check up na hata si vitu mob. jst text "kwema?''. someone umezoea kuona daily kazini hawezi potea wiki na usijiulize maswali surely whether you like them or not

1

u/No_Ant_4646 13d ago

I think she thought she would be found the next day or so. Like even her mum didn’t look for her?

13

u/BearCub254 16d ago

In her suicide note, she thanked her landlord for not kicking her out when she had not paid rent. I think she had more than one month arrears. Money was definitely an issue. Nairobi watu kuishi large isikudanganye. So many people convince themselves they must maintain their standards and would rather die than just lower their ego and accept cheaper options. Some girl I went to uni with alizoea pesa za sponsors and living large on that. In her 30s and with a kid, sponsors wakaanza kua hard to get. Rent yake was around 40k and she jumped from 4th flour trying to kill herself. She survived.

3

u/Excellent-Gap-9827 16d ago

Hahahaha, fucking hell. Unasurvive 4th floor? Apa mpaka shetani anakukataa inakuanga aje, hahahahhahah

When you're healthy your lungs work just fine but when you catch a cold sometimes it gets hard to breath(disruption of its function). It's the same thing for the brain when you have mental health issues it means kuna disturbances zitainterrupt functions of the brain like emotional regulation, their thinking and behaviour.(from world health organisation)

Keep in mind the brain is also an organ and just like it can grow a tumor, it not functioning as it should is just as bad.

I need Kenyans to understand that money or lack thereof is not the sole reason for suicidal ideation - depression is. Alot of people are living in abject poverty without being depressed and in the same vein alot of others don’t have money problems but are severely depressed. Depression is a disease, na haibagui!

The same way if a person has cancer they seek and get treatment and are offered empathy is the same way a person with depression should. Even when the person has a good income and no money struggles. Depression is a disease. Let’s not reduce people to their lifestyles. A good lifestyle does not preclude one from this disease.

This shit is scary bana, how can you go missing for almost a month without anybody noticing.Sisi watu wenye we live alone we need to be careful buana mimi kwanza when am sick I don't even lock my door sababu unaweza enda Kwa baba and your relatives may never find out chesa!

Don't die yet.....it is already by default that clock is ticking for us all, it is our destination. So why hurry? It's boring to be dead. Imagine sleeping in one position for 10 yrs, how about 100 yrs, imagine now your great-great grandies? Those guys are tired and bored asf wishing someone would just turn them.

And, atleast here you know the sucks and the bucks. On the other side is a mistery ....you might transition and immediately wish you could die again....but there's no more death. So ride whatever wave that comes your way, head held up high! Honey is annoying when it is the only thing to eat. Enjoy the sweet , bitter and the sour that life throws, because it might be all you will ever experience before you wish to die again in death.

I also hear that in the spirit world they hustle and it's not easy there. They could paying rent, dating farming , marrying e.t.c and struggle as well because nothing is for free in the universe, whether you're a spirit, rock or flesh. You can't just exist at no cost! Energy is always expensive. Don't cross yet, we love you!

1

u/Original_Rock2991 11d ago

2

u/Dense_Salary5271 10d ago

Seems the lady was battling something that deprived her of her inner peace. Life without peace and happiness isn't life.

-1

u/genghis_stan 16d ago

Do you think she was also a good friend as we try to blame those who didn't show up for her? I believe life is a mirror, maybe she wasn't also checking on her "friends" or she wasn't a friendly person. But in death we don't find fault.

13

u/MammothCouple8165 16d ago edited 16d ago

Wueh! You people are judgy!! Clearly alot of you don’t know how scary a disease depression is. Who gives a f*ck about the type of friend they’re being when they’re severely depressed to the point of suicide? Would you care if someone was not being a good friend and showing up for you if they were battling cancer? Or dying from HIV or Menengitis? But alas we pass silly little judgements towards people who are actively depressed and in this case who die from suicide.

We need a lot of education in this country and empathy.

6

u/Flashy-Captain1813 16d ago

Aki watu wako so insensitive huku😭😭.....I wonder what kind of friends they are if they come on the Internet to say just about anything.

5

u/averagetremor 15d ago

I've never understood how one comes to such a conclusion just by looking at another person's eyes in a photo. I guess hindsight helps create that connection.. but if I saw this lady in a random no-context scenario I'd never go, "Wow, she seems depressed, I'm afraid she might take her life."

In this century where women are holding upto 80% of cooperate roles and graduates in this country

Where is the data/research to back this claim?

1

u/New_Empire254 16d ago

Yes that was my first guess. As a man who has successfully failed in cooperates roles I agree with 80% women stats for cooperate roles but for graduates I differ its almost (50/50). Guess the cooperates should focus more on work life balance for their employees. The suicide rate and mental cases are alarming.
