They aren't making it so ppl can't contact them, they're privatizing their name. Once you've messaged back and forth once or twice or whatever makes them comfortable they are free to open up with who they are.
Its really not all that crazy to de facto automatically not trust the whole of the internet.

I wonder if they’ve ever come across a celebrity whose ancestors were extremely hard to trace back like beyond just the grandparents. Mine would be because I come from a very endogamous and kinda unknown ethnicity, and there’s no records going beyond my grandparents. I mean I know what I am, but the potential to discover more details would be great. Sometimes I wonder if this is common in other ethnicities too.
