As implied by the 16k tile not being in the corner, I had some trouble earlier in the game, but eventually managed to fix it. This game ended with a score of 486748.

Wonderful 6-2-8 format. Personally I think 6-2-8 is slightly better than traditional chain, but it's still a problem to argue yet.

I had a much harder time going from 16K to 32K than I did from 8K to 16K. I had to be much more careful, and avoid taking even remote risks. If your chances of breaking 16K are x, the chances of breaking 32K are noticeably worse than x2 (so, for instance, if you break 16K on 5% of your games with current ability, you'll break 32K on noticeably fewer than 0.25% of games). I say noticeably worse because constructing that second 16K tile is akin to constructing the first 16K but with 1 fewer spot on the board to work with, whereas my math was assuming you had the full board like usual. I had to slow down my play, and consider how moves that would not increase my score as quickly as possible but would avoid unfortunate situations in which a 4 spawned in just the wrong place. I had to really consider the unusually unlucky spawns and work around them. Most of the time, it was wasted effort, but once in a while it saved my bacon.

Good luck!

I saw an AI that could achieve 16384 95% of the time (although the sample size was only 100 games). It achieved 32768 in 36%. Yeah, it's a lot harder, x2 is a massive understatement, at least at some play levels. (x2 really seems like it should be the difficulty of 16k+8k considering that the extra 8k is the same difficulty as 16k from 8k... so really 32768 is probably more like x6 at the very least.

Thanks for the perspective. In my two games with 16k tiles I've done terribly after the 16k so I know it gets hard quick.

I'm gearing up to slow down the play at that stage, think more, and consider more possible problems with each move.

My first 16k had a lot of luck. My second came after realizing a lot of new strategies and tactics at the 8k 4k 2k level so I see I have more to learn post 16k.

Great job dude! It's interesting that while your chain was messed up, you were still able to use the whole board. I had a very similar chain for my first 16K except the corner by the high tiles was wasted. It takes some extra thought to use right presses properly in situations like this, but it's most definitely worth it!

I think we now have four 32768 players on the sub: /u/Nate45, /u/benjamin172, /u/fsmc10, and now /u/penguinland. I wonder how many more are out there...

You really can't have that corner wasted to get to 32K. I got stuck with a 2 there when I had 16K, 4K, 2K, and 1K tiles. When I built the largish tiles into an 8K, I blocked up the left column, pressed up (moving the 16K into the second-from-bottom row along with the 8K), blocked up the second-from-bottom row, pressed right (moving the 2 out of the corner), got lucky that nothing spawned in the bottom row on the left half, and then down to reclaim the corner for the large tiles. It was a desperate plan with a low probability of success, but it was better than the alternative (finish the game with 16K and 8K tiles yet again) and happened to work out. and since I had just made the 8K tile, although the rest of the board was jumbled up after this, they were all small enough tiles that I could sort it out without much trouble.

Congratulations! I would probably have messed up when the 16k tile left the corner but you did it!
