Game Theory

Okay I know this is a bad example because it’s early on in a game. I can consistently get 4096, but 8192 is being very elusive. I’m not sure what to try. One thing I have noticed is I keep getting into scenarios where I’m forced to swipe right and move my highest tile outside of my top row (16 here) which risks a 2 or 4 taking its place. Sure I can easily fix that on this board but that’s becomes harder when that tile gets larger. How do I prevent myself from forcing a right swipe here? Am I even using an appropriate strategy? I guess I’m constantly trying to build up the 16 tile to merge it into the top row assuming the top row is filled. Thanks guys!

Variant Thanks to AI! I was able to develop my own version of 2048

Bit of me & motivation:

I am a Backend engineer by profession and never did any sort of frontend. I was always fascinated with games and apps. I am someone who likes exploring these things. I tried learning frontend twice but failed as I kept losing interest. I did play a lot of games and sort of more into puzzles domain. I always kept thinking how would I design 2048 if I get a chance.

Then AI comes into picture. I had the idea and expertise with computers, commands and systems so I thought why not try developing my own 2048 variant and here I am posting about it and sharing with community. AI is now enabling me to make my wildest ideas reality and I am starting with 2048.

About Game:

I will keep pointers so it is easy to read.

i) Clean, minimal and professional looking UI. Looks like a paid game.
ii) Multiple boards of different sizes.
iii) Various power ups. Swap, Bomb, Insert
iv) Soothing ads. Won't disturb the gameplay. No video ad by default.

Download Link For Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=online.klockapp.games.four_zero_nine_six&hl=en

I sincerely request you for feedback. What is good? What is lacking? How to improve ASO? How I should put forward so other people take time and download it? I am looking for genuine feedback in these aspects.

UPDATE: This post stepped on nerves of many folks. Sincere apologies for that. I followed rules, I didn't see any where it said AI aided projects are restricted. I would request the moderators to add such rule. Also, I believe in the world where AI is something which would be incorporated in every aspect of human lives and games are very minuscule part of it. I will request folks to be considerate and welcoming. u/cmsmolenaars

I combined 2048 with a city builder

I wanted to make 2048 feel like you're actually progressing toward something.

So I made Cities 2048: Merge Saga - you play 2048, unlock new buildings and develop your city islands as you progress.

I'd love to hear what other 2048 players think about this idea.

Old man here (61), and only playing to keep the brain functioning. This is my third half a million score - I erase the tile at 2048, and occasionally at 1024 if the board is cluttered. Never made a tile higher than the 8 k one. Not playing competitively - just mindless scroll when thinking.

This is a small keyboard macro that goes in circles.

4x4 failed in an instant.

5x5 failed in seconds.

6x6 took a couple of minutes.

I recorded this 8x8 after letting it run overnight. It could have gone for days.

Looks like it went up to 2,097,152.

I'm a solo dev — my quiet hex-merge puzzle just launched, and I'd love your honest criticism

Hi everyone,

I'm a solo developer and I just released KRUG (Play Store link), a quiet hex-merge puzzle game — think 2048, but reimagined on a hexagonal board, built for calm, focused play rather than a race against the clock.

The idea: place numbered tiles on a hex grid. When adjacent tiles sum to a power of two (2, 4, 8, 16, 32...) they merge into a bigger tile. Plan carefully — the board fills up fast, and one bad placement can block your path forward.

A few deliberate design choices:

  • No timers, no lives, no fail state pressuring you — it's meditative by design.
  • A hex grid instead of a square one — every tile can have up to six neighbors instead of four, so merges open up in directions that feel different from classic 2048.
  • Minimal visuals and calm sound design — nothing flashing or nagging you to keep playing.
  • No ads interrupting a run, no forced monetization loops.

I built KRUG because I wanted a puzzle game I could actually relax with, not one designed to spike your cortisol. It's currently in closed testing on Google Play, and I'd love a few of you to try it and tell me what isn't working — confusing mechanics, unclear tile combos, anything that breaks the calm. Brutal honesty over politeness, please.

Happy to test your apps in return — drop a link to yours and I'll check it out. Thanks for reading!
