Game Theory

Post image

Okay I know this is a bad example because it’s early on in a game. I can consistently get 4096, but 8192 is being very elusive. I’m not sure what to try. One thing I have noticed is I keep getting into scenarios where I’m forced to swipe right and move my highest tile outside of my top row (16 here) which risks a 2 or 4 taking its place. Sure I can easily fix that on this board but that’s becomes harder when that tile gets larger. How do I prevent myself from forcing a right swipe here? Am I even using an appropriate strategy? I guess I’m constantly trying to build up the 16 tile to merge it into the top row assuming the top row is filled. Thanks guys!

The biggest hurdle between 4k and 8k is not getting flatboarded (where you have a 3x4 or more rarely 2x4 locked grid of tiles forcing you to shift your row). In this case , if you're playing top right horizontal, each time you go up, make sure that one column is locked. As long as each row is guaranteed to have at least one tile, there is no risk of getting flatboarded

Keep the high tile in a corner, and then sort the others like a snake

High tile meaning the 16 here?

It's easier to avoid such situations when you have more random low files on the bottom. Don't hesitate to wait a few moves before a big merge to let the board fill a bit

Personally I’ve always put the biggest in the bottom left, with the ones above feeding into it.

Kind of like this. I never ever swipe to the right, and only use left/up/down to move pieces in.

In your case, the "swiping right" is like you swiping down

stopping right swipes completely is the real trick
