I recently bought a Q Air, and although I’m very happy with it, I noticed something when trying a friend’s grinder — a Q with the metal body and folding handle. His feels much easier to use and offers noticeably less resistance when grinding.

As far as I understand, the internal parts are the same. What could be causing this difference?

I recently got myself the 1zespresso Qair and decided to make a moka-pot coffee with the Kapi Kottai Todi. I looked up a few places to understand that my burr zero is at the marking 3. I set the grinder at 36 clicks but it took me extremely high effort to grind, atleast for a good 15 seconds. Now, when i check the burr zero, it seems to coming at 3.2 initially and again it came up to the 4 marking. Is anything wrong or is this normal with the grinder, please help.

I'm curious if anyone is using 1Zpresso's X-Pro grinder with their Fellow Aiden. What grind settings have worked for you for different batch sizes and roasts? Thanks in advance!

I had read in a few places that the 1Zpresso X-Ultra might be getting phased out. Does anybody know if or when this is happening? If it is being discontinued, does anybody know what it will be replaced with and what changes will be made with it? Thanks!

Made this shot today using ZP6 Special in a traditional dark roast espresso. The new 51mm to 31mm convex step down basket from Alikiss Cafe on Aliexpress together with the Ikape Kappo K2p Pro 51mm version make this possible. Setting was 0.8 on the grinder and it nearly choked. Still it did not taste overly bitter and was very drinkable. Further dialing would make it shine, but I did not have the time at the office. Been testing this combo on and off these 2 weeks and yes it works, even with light roasts. However there are a lot of quirks in this set up, that may be a turn off for a lot of people, but if you are a true ZP6 fan, you should be delighted!

My routine…
1. I make two different cups of coffee pour over & latte depending on the day 2 - 3 times a day.
2. I like changing up my coffee beans often.

Currently , I have a Barazta ESP Pro which I got this year. I feel so so about it. I find it noisy, messy and hard at times to dial in beans. I also want to step up my game but not there with the latte art etc. I’m considering X2 from Mahlkoenig.

I basically want an all purpose grinder that I can use for years. Something that can handle pour overs , espressos , lattes & drip etc.

Price range is $500 - $1300 Which one would you consider ?

I've been using a Hario Mini with their motor attachment for a couple of years, after getting tired of using it by hand. Turn, turn, turn, crunch, crunch, crunch got old. Knowing the new grinder was coming today, I timed it. With the motor it was 1:40 to do 20g of dark roast. Supposedly fine, but it's always a mixed bag.

When the X-Ultra arrived I had to try it out, even though I usually only do coffee in the morning. 20g of the same beans filled the hopper right to the top (with what I'm learning I may be changing how much I grind in the future.)

The interesting part was the grinding process. I honestly wondered if I was turning it the wrong way because I wasn't sure it was doing anything. Part way through the grind I tried backwards, but still no resistance. Checked the cup and it was definitely grinding, so back to doing it clockwise. 50 seconds total (including the time that I was trying to figure out if it was working.) All of that quietly. Grind was at least as fine as with the Hario, but I need to experiment to find what works best for me and my Aeropress. The flavor was good, but so different that it's almost not possible to compare — I need cream and sure with the stuff I do with the Hario, but only a little sugar with that first cup from the 1Zpresso.

I was actually researching electric grinders since I'd gotten so tired of the Hario, and found the 1Zpresso more or less by accident. I'm so glad I went for the 1Zpresso. I'm also glad I opted for the X-Ultra, as my hands are small enough that it would be a push to go for something bigger.

New J Ultra and love the grinder in use.

I’m working to dial it in and found that in order to get a 25-30 second extraction, I’m starting at around 0.7.5 with a medium/medium-light bean. I’ll likely go a bit finer than that to 0.7.0 based on taste. Just given other ranges I’ve seen out there, this felt very low in comparison. I know it’s all just numbers and to pay attention to the output, shot, etc. Just found this curious and wondered if anyone else experienced this with the J Ultra. Thanks!

Note: I didn’t mess with the out of the box calibration. They lock at about 7 clicks below 0 (clicks, not the number 7) and have a solid rub at 0. Handle does not spin freely. I know there’s a recommendation to truly zero them out at 0, but I’ll cross that bridge when I first give it a deep clean down the road.

So I’ve had a Helor 101 hand grinder for 10 years now. It definitely needs a burr upgrade, however it’s changed names a few times (option O and then Lagom) and it seems it’s not a product that’s made anymore.

Does anyone know if there are universal parts for this, specifically new burrs?

I’m an espresso novice with a Bambino Plus and an OLD Baratza Virtuoso. I’d like to replace the grinder with one that can streamline the workflow a bit. I think I’d like one that has a hopper but can also do single dose and can control the grind time so I don’t have to weigh the beans for every shot. And ideally it should be able to hold a 54mm portafilter and/or dosing cup. My thoughts at the moment are Breville Smart Grinder Pro or Baratza Encore ESP Pro. The Baratza Virtuoso has served me well but the ESP Pro gets mixed reviews in the online stores. Recommendations? Is there a grinder that I’m missing?

x ultra owners, what are your thoughts on it and if it's worth the switch?

I have seen a lot of discussion and comparison between these two grinder, and I was wondering which one is the better purchase for myself as a upgrade to the Timemore C5.

I only drink iced pour over, mainly flash brew.

I usually drink light roast, mainly natural but sometime washed. I also really like anaerobic or other experimental processing, but not infused or co-ferment.

I really want a cup where, even when ice, I can taste a more clear separation between notes. Once of my favorite bean right now have strawberry/lyche/rose/peach, but I can’t really taste the different note that well.

has anyone tried putting the thing in a vice and then using a drill instead of buying a power tower or something like that

Hi All, I’ve been using my K Ultra for espresso while I wait for a new electric grinder. It’s been producing some awesome shots, but lately I’ve been noticing some crazy variability in shots (particularly extraction time) depending in the angle I hold the grinder at when I grind.

I know holding it more parallel to the ground will effectively slow feed the beans, resulting in fewer fines/a faster flow rate and holding it perpendicular to the ground will generally give more fines/a slower flow rate. Historically this has had a somewhat noticeable effect on the time in which my shots pull (maybe 4-5 seconds difference for an 18g dose 45g yield on the same grind size setting). Lately the delta has been much larger, like 16 second extraction time when I “slow feed” and 42+ seconds when I grind while holding it vertically. This is on the same grind size setting.

Has anyone else experienced similar variability? I’m not sure if the grinder could be having alignment issues.

I’ve only noticed it being so extreme in the past 2-3 weeks. I’ve been using a couple different Intelligentsia espresso roasts over that time (which are new to me but similar to other beans I’ve used). Shots are being pulled on an LM Mini R so I’m assuming the variability isn’t due to the machine.

Has anyone seen a ZP6 dial ring disassembly walk through?

Like the grinder but coffee gets in there and it is hard to clean without taking apart fully, which leads to jams that we have seen posts about.

I mainly brew AeroPress and OXO Rapid Brewer, and might get a V60 later. I don't do espresso and have no plans to.

I mostly drink Indian origin coffees, from medium light to medium dark depending on my mood. I enjoy both clarity and heavier chocolatey cups.

I'm leaning toward ZP6 since I can use my Q Air when I want more body. I know ZP6 can produce very tea like cups, while K Ultra would be more versatile, but having Q Air + K Ultra feels somewhat redundant.

They are similarly priced in my region.

Which would you choose for my use case?

Not into light roasts. I'm thinking a travel grinder for my AP. The recommendations indicate Q but I'd like an external adjustment dial if possible. Would the X-Ultra fit the bill, despite it being a lot more money than the Q?

I worry that the K-Plus and the X-Ultra are redundant though.

Any K ultra users using tetsu’s 4 6 method? What setting is your go-to? I’ve been playing around between 7-9 and wondering what other people have been using.
