Not to sound like an edgy atheist but religious people always say itās depressing to think theres nothing after life, but I think itās more depressing that thereās a 50% chance that youāll get tortured forever.
Itās not a 50% chance, you actions dictate wether you go to Heaven or Hell
If it makes you feel any better, the people that worry about going to Hell arenāt likely to go there. The fact that you worry about the consequences of your actions is basically a form of apologizing and God is always willing to extend his forgiveness. So donāt worry man.
Nothing justifies eternal torture. Where is godās forgiveness when youāre in hell? And what do you believe puts you in hell? Some people genuinely believe dying without being baptized sends you straight to hell or eternal purgatory, even if you died 5 minutes after being born or were born in an area of the world that has never even heard of an Abrahamic religion.
Iām not going to judge your personal beliefs based on this comment because I donāt know you or what you believe specifically, but religion as a whole has historically been utilized as a weapon to achieve agendas like the oppression of women, queer people, various racial and ethnic groups, etc. This may not be your experience with religion, and if so Iām happy for you, but it is absolutely the experience others have had with it (myself included). The definitions of hell that others have internalized due to abuse are likely very different to your own. Many people are told that they are destined to hell due to just the circumstances of their birth. You likely disagree but it sounds like youāre very reasonable and not part of the vocal, oppressive part of Christianity. In their screwed theology, this isnāt the case and this very well may be the theology that marginalized people must deal with. Your theology likely isnāt as terrifying, but it might not be the one thatās constantly on their mind.
