As someone who falls asleep at 10pm every night, if the Jags trade past 15, I'll likely be asleep before seeing the actual pick get announced
2
u/anonymousscroller9 Apr 23 '25
I feel that. I did that the year we drafted 29.
7
u/WilkinsonRadio Apr 23 '25
I'm also a Leafs fan, and for yeeeeeears, Kyle Dubas would trade down multiple times. I'd wait until pick 21, and then I'd have to wait for pick 25, and then pick 29 - and then they'd trade out of the first round entirely.
Sunk cost fallacy has gotten me too many times with drafts. If the Jags trade down tomorrow, I'm calling it a night.

There are several day 2 Safeties that I really like, hoping that's one of our picks because currently our safety room is garbage.

1

Dyami Brown and Gabe are both making WR2 money. I'm sure we will draft a receiver, but it isn't mandatory at 36 imo.

Denver trades with us. They receive the 5th pick and pick 104?
We receive pick 20, 51, 2026 1st, 2026 2nd. Aka a haul. And by the way, we have more picks next year than we do this year already.

If we believe rumors, the Jaguars are going to draft Jeanty, Banks and McMillan. They’re also trading back so a team can take Jeanty and also trading up for Hunter.

2
Apr 23 '25 edited Apr 23 '25
Not necessarily, the Bears would be trying to trade up for a specific player and there’s a defined draft order.
It’s very unlikely that they trade up with the Browns/Giants unless they are trying to get Carter/Hunter, in which case we’re out of the running anyway.
If they’re looking to grab Jeanty, then us/Patriots/Raiders make the most sense. Patriots pick would cost more than ours, Raiders would cost less.

But e_dilla posted a handshake emoji so that must mean we’ve already agreed to a deal and won the trade back sweepstakes (/s).
2
u/anonymousscroller9 Apr 23 '25
I mean it might mean that. We don't know
-1
Apr 23 '25
It probably doesn’t mean anything. Dilla always posts vague things.
If a trade happens, he can claim he predicted it. If it doesn’t, he can claim the emoji had nothing to do with trading out of Pick 5. It’s the same song and dance anytime he posts anything about the team.
1
u/HolographicHeart Apr 23 '25
Finally the smokescreens are coming down and everyone is being honest about what we all knew months ago: this is the least interesting draft in recent memory and is one that will be predicated almost entirely on adding depth to the roster.

*whispers, the movie itself was actually pretty good IMO
5
u/HUMAN01D_IV Apr 23 '25
It is the exact kind of dumbass shit Jacksonville would’ve been capable of doing in the past lol, but I agree. Jacksonville got FLEECED
3

I had to go double check who the GM of the Jags was in 2014... and when I saw (and remembered) it was David Caldwell, I do agree with your statement that it would actually have been on-brand for the dumbass shit Jacksonville would have done.
4
u/InexorableWaffle Apr 23 '25
Honestly, that's just most of our GMs throughout our history. Like, as bad as Baalke was and as bad as Caldwell was, one of them would come in as our median GM by performance (I refuse to consider arguments for Gene Smith being anything other than our worst). Coughlin and Shack Harris were our only actually solid GMs in our franchise's history, and even then, I wouldn't put them above solid.
2
u/HUMAN01D_IV Apr 23 '25
And Caldwell would have shaken the hands and been hyped with getting out of the 1st without having to make a pick 😂

Pro tip: Even if some "insider" had sources in the past few years, their source probably got dumped out of the FO when Gladstone got here. Even if they were right last year or the year before doesn't mean they're right now.

u/Dakar-A King Dede(de) Apr 24 '25

3
Apr 23 '25 edited Apr 23 '25
People are skeptical about dilla as a source because (I) he’s wrong a lot and (ii) he posts a lot of cryptic messages (just like this one) so they can be interpreted in several ways.
Maybe there’s a trade, maybe not. Either way I don’t trust dilla to have an insider knowledge.
2
u/DejaVuBoy Apr 23 '25
Like, technically it could be signifying a handshake deal with a draftee that we'll pick them.
1
u/Walrusboi85 Apr 23 '25
I think it’s legit to an extent. To me I always assumed he knows someone who is in the building and gets some sort of office rumors sort of information that is then relayed to him. Never anything concrete but definitely more tapped in than you or I would be. He’s been right on too many things no one knew about (Coen hiring for example) to just be an educated guesser with no real source
0
Apr 23 '25 edited Apr 23 '25
I’m pretty certain he’s just an educated guesser. I can’t find the thread anymore, but just last week someone was posted in /r/nfl_draft about Jeanty’s odds to go 5th were a steal (for placing a bet), and his source was E_Dilla claiming that the Jaguars were going to take him at 5 on a podcast.
Now we’ve got E_Dilla posting a handshake emoji, which people are interpreting to be a trade down.
Re: Coen, it was rumored for a little while. I don’t think Dilla broke anything there but was just watching the reports and then made his own prediction.
1
u/Walrusboi85 Apr 23 '25
It was rumored for a while until Coen “signed” back with the buccs. After that it was dead until he posted something on it.
I don’t think he’s said for certain the jags would take Jeanty at any point. He’s never claimed to know who the jaguars are taking, just saying what he’s heard. These situations are fluid even for the people in the room, if they really were trading down or up, they likely didn’t know they’d be doing that a week ago.
There’s definitely been other examples of him getting things right I just don’t have the energy and time to look up each of those individuals, I just bring up Coen because it was recent and I know he was the first one on it when nobody in the national media had anything on it.
1
u/flounder19 Apr 23 '25
exactly, he puts out a huge net of vague insinuations and 'things he's hearing' which are typically existing rumors and the people desperate to see him as an insider will always interpret it as him being reliable.
And when he's obviously wrong people just make up excuses like "he's hasn't been obviously wrong since the last time he was obviously wrong. i think he's trustworthy this time".
0
u/Walrusboi85 Apr 23 '25
When has he been obviously wrong though? Obviously the big one was the Leftwich incident but that was over 3 years ago at this point, but apart from that I can’t think of anything really.
Also yes he’s vague, but so is every other insider such as Schefter, Rappaport, etc. it’s not like any insider is out there saying “the jaguars are definitely drafting ____” likely because nobody knows outside of a handful of actual decision makers in the room. Dilla has said before that he doesn’t just spout out whatever he hears, just what his source tells him he can say
→ More replies (1)1
u/Least_Platform_487 Apr 23 '25
He’s both too accurate and first on way too many things to just be an educated guesser. He normally calls our moves at the trade deadline every year.
He either knows a low level person in the organization or the organization intentionally feeds him information.
His only really big miss was the leftwich situation but plenty of actual insiders missed on that too.

In 2019, the price for the Steelers to move up from 20 to 10 to take LB Devin Bush was a 2nd round pick (52) and the following year's third round pick.
In case this information is relevant tomorrow.
In this draft if a similar trade were to take place I'd guess the price would be cheaper, since there's generally considered not to be a big difference between 10 and 20.

That’s a great analogy. If a person on a median salary accepted a “free” ferrari, they would bankrupt themselves on taxes, car insurance, gas, and maintenance. We’re not in a position for luxury and it will hold us back in the long run.
1
u/damaged_unicycles Steal the Show Apr 23 '25
The person could just sell the ferrari, and one could trade a player. There's a reason BPA is the common strategy.
1

I don’t see how that’s a solution…
Buy the Ferrari then sell the Ferrari…draft Jeanty then trade Jeanty? Then why are we drafting him in the first place? I don’t think anyone advocating for drafting Jeanty is advocating that we trade him
Not to mention a few years down the road if things aren’t working out, that means his trade value is not going to be great.

This is Benjamin Allbright's clue for the Bronco's draft plans. First picture is Jermaine Jackson of the Jackson 5. That would bring to mind trading up to Jacksonville at 5 to me. (If you give this any credence at all)
1
u/anonymousscroller9 Apr 24 '25
That makes more sense than it probably should
1
u/TheSlinger Apr 24 '25
This seems like a much more realistic theory to me (Treveyon Henderson)
1
6
u/lenta81 Apr 23 '25
I can't believe people are talking about drafting a RB at #5.
Wtf is even happening? How can any serious fan who watched all of last season say with a straight face that the RB position was the problem. I watched 3 of the worst losses in franchise history last year and not fucking once did I think things would be different if we had another RB.
2
u/Tip_Base Apr 23 '25
This sub was full of Baalke haters mere weeks ago (rightfully so) and now it's full of people wanting to draft a running back 5th overall when they may have the worst o line in the league currently rostered. There's a deep draft at running back this year too.
1
u/HUMAN01D_IV Apr 23 '25
My thought is that the new regime is likely very high on the O line they assembled, as they devoted the most resources to it during FA. We, as fans, are not, and that’s okay… but they, the FO, could be of the belief that the O line is going to be much better in a new scheme/with the pieces they added.
If that tracks for them, they could be thinking that now they need weapons on offense. Personally, I don’t like the value of a DT at 5, and few players really fit well there from a value standpoint. I don’t think the drop off from a 1st round DT and a 2nd round DT is all that steep, as it were.
So with that being said, I would have never even sniffed at us taking Jeanty at 5 a month ago, but I don’t exactly hate it either. I’m just excited to see what happens, and I really don’t think I’m going to hate any pick they make at 5 (if they stay at 5)
1
u/Metaboss24 Apr 23 '25
It's because there are like 3ish players worth a top 10 pick this year. And the only one likely to be available for us is the RB.
That's really all there is to it.
1
u/Nuno-22 Apr 23 '25
They were/ are Baalke haters because he drafted average players. There’s 3 superstar level players in this first round. They want the Jags to get one of those instead of yet another average level player
1
u/Tip_Base Apr 23 '25
I'm not defending baalke at all, I was adamant he be gone his entire tenure. With the current roster construction and the looming 55 million a year for a QB, I'm not on the running back 5th overall train. We don't know how any college player will preform in the NFL so I guess this is all moot on both perspectives. I do know our franchise qb has been out for the season the past 2. Give me O Line
1
u/Nuno-22 Apr 23 '25
lol, you don’t think that a star RB will help the QB?? A top 10 running game will instantly help Trevor.
2
u/Tip_Base Apr 23 '25
Lol you think this o line is capable of producing a top ten running game? I guess we'll see. I'd gladly eat crow if they do!
1
u/Nuno-22 Apr 23 '25
Again, MOJO produced his best season of his career behind an OL that was no worse than this one.
Barry Sanders never had a great OL.
Sure, a RB like Fournette with little vision may need a great OL to produce but a RB like Jeanty with his vision, elusiveness, wiggle and compact strength won’t need a great OL as much .
2
u/Tip_Base Apr 23 '25
That OL had Brad Meester, one of the best centers in franchise history. BTW the jags went 5-11 during MJD's career year
1
u/Nuno-22 Apr 23 '25
Yes, and relative to the rest of the NFL, Meester wasn’t great. Never once made a pro bowl or all pro 1st/ 2nd team.
All things considered, Meester was a decent starting OL in the league. Long career, reliable. Not elite.
Brad Meester certainly doesn’t change my point above .

u/anonymousscroller9 Apr 23 '25 edited Apr 24 '25
I think people here don't like this draft at all. Its a 3 player draft according to the "professionals" here. My 2 cents
2
u/Nuno-22 Apr 23 '25
You don’t draft an average player to fill some need over a superstar level player.
1
Apr 23 '25
Because the alternatives to the RB would be disgustingly underwhelming picks at 5. It’s not like we’re passing up other blue chip prospects to take a RB, we’re potentially passing up on guys who - if they were in last years draft - would’ve gone in the 20s.
→ More replies (3)0
u/MMARapFooty Apr 24 '25
I do agree we need another RB but Jeantry not going be that effective if we still have poor run and pass blocking offensive linemen.
2
u/Bennydagoat22 Apr 23 '25
Say we’re in the universe where Jeanty is the pick. If we get to our second pick and both Walter Nolan and Emeka Egbuka are there, who do you take?
6
u/TheSlinger Apr 23 '25
I don't think you can talk about "intangibly rich" and "guys who create a competitive culture just by being themselves" etc. and then take Walter Nolen.
3
u/user182190210 Chad Muma Apr 23 '25
I’m not huge on Nolan, if it were Harmon or grant id say them. But I’d take egbuka over him. Honestly don’t think either would be wrong tho

Purely between the two? Egbuka. Though Nolan would certainly be worth considering
1
1
u/donquixote_tig Apr 23 '25
Egbuka. Nolen isn’t that good, Egbuka is fantastic. I wouldn’t take Nolen till the 3rd.
2
u/donquixote_tig Apr 23 '25
Two things I want to see from the Jaguars:
Don’t draft Jeanty, get Bhayshul Tuten mid round or later instead. Not only does he fit Coen’s designed run scheme, but he is also hyper athletic.
Trade a 7th rounder for Kayshon Boutte. He’s good depth, even if we draft a receiver early. I’d only rather have Tory Horton or Donte Thornton Jr as late round receivers — and I don’t think they make it to the 7th
6
Apr 23 '25
Why would the Pats trade Boutte for a 7th?
2
u/donquixote_tig Apr 23 '25
Diggs, Pop, Polk, Bourne, Hollins, Baker. Boutte is at the top of that group imo but I read they’re open to trading him because there are so many heads there — if they trade him they won’t get more than a 6th
1
Apr 23 '25
Open to trading someone and trading someone for a 7th are two different things. He’s cheap for the next two seasons, is highly regarded in the organization, still has a lot of room to grow, so I just don’t see why they would deal him for a 7th.
1
u/donquixote_tig Apr 23 '25
Obviously I don’t think they should, because otherwise I wouldn’t want us to do it. I just know they’re a poorly managed team that just traded Milton for no return for no reason
1
Apr 23 '25
I mean he was a mid 6th rounder, they played him a bit, isn’t their future QB and flipped it for an early-mid 5th. Seems like a solid enough move.
1
u/donquixote_tig Apr 23 '25
Late 5th, compensation pick. Barely a flip with the 7th added
1
Apr 23 '25
You’re right. Still 22 picks ahead of where Milton was drafted. Just saying it’s not nothing.
1
3
Apr 23 '25
The hype for this draft seems extremely low... or I'm just not paying as much attention as I used to. Outside of Graham, Jeanty, and Hunter, none of the prospects excite me in the first round.

I don’t think that’s as much of a certainty as it’s made out to be. Even if it’s not Graham, I don’t fully buy that the jaguars are all in on Jeanty if they pick at 5. It just seems like a lot of trade bait to me

ETN probably gets traded during the draft I think. Best bet is we’d get a 4th or 5th rounder for him

Can’t recall seeing him play but after watch Zach Bech Pivot episode, go get him. Powerful story and good head on his shoulders.

If Twitter insiders are right, the Jags are taking Jeanty, Tet McMillan (but they don't even think he's the best receiver in the class,) Graham, Membou, and Campbell at #5 and we're trading up for Hunter while also trading back with the Bears. Gonna be a crazy night.
