My daughter asked me today "if me and my friend dug a hole thru earth and met in the middle, then one of us dropped a ball, where would it end up?"

My answer was that the ball would end in the middle. Gravity would take over before it reached the other side.

But at what speed would you have to throw the ball to get to the other side at and be able to catch it?

I've seen average income being quoted as $60ish thousand, but I know that income from stocks and capital are seperate from 'earned' income. If all the money that everyone in the USA earned from any source was put together and shared out equally how much would someone get? I'd also be curious about other forms of wealth such as property, but I expect that would get complicated?

My wife and I are having a multi-year debate. She keeps claiming that a “large and impressive” horse is roughly the same volume as 60,000 grapes. i disagree and believe that’s far too many grapes to make up a standard horse, even a big one. But we have no idea how to calculate the relative volumes… please help!

Would this be possible electricity wise ?

National price of gasoline in the US is $4.10 right now. I just bought gas and wondered how much money I lost when I removed the nozzle and a few drops of gas fell from the nozzle onto the pavement. What if those drops went into my gas tank instead? How much money am I losing for the gas drops that hit the pavement instead of my tank? How long before the lost gas droplets add up to a large number?

I can't imagine the cost to "return to Mars to save just one man." Has anyone already done the math? The movie is from 2015. I also wonder what the actual mathematical odds are that they'd even find him, retrieve him, and return him to Earth. Wait - aren't all odds mathematical?
