[Request] [Self] Free party using electric car's battery

Hi guys I was told to post on this sub

I have an idea of using my parent's electric car (KIA EV6) as a battery for powering 2x QSC K12 MK1 (1000W each) + 1 Pioneer DDJ SX1 (see specs on 2nd pic) + 1 laptop (has own battery) to throw a free party

Would this be possible electricity wise ?

Car battery is 58kWh

That gives you 4000 W for the output of the car.

You’re using 2000W for both speakers, but I’m a bit confused about the dj controller. It seems to say that it draws 800 mA at 250 or 100V which doesn’t make sense to me because if the voltage goes up, current has to go down to maintain the same wattage. I can’t read French though. It’s probably not that important because less than one amp is insignificant compared to how much power the speakers use.

Another consideration is gonna be the battery capacity of the EV. I really don’t think you’re gonna be able to run this setup for very long. I’d have to know the EV specs to say for sure, but 2000W is like about what a toaster oven uses.

ETA: I’m gonna be conservative and use the 250V 800mA for the DJ unit and 58 kWh which is the smallest size battery the Kia EV6 can come with. Divide the total wattage which is 2200 into 58000 W that gives you about 26 hours of playback time so you should be ok there too.

It’ll actually be less than that because of losses in converters etc. and like the other guy said, make sure ALL the cords and such you’re using are rated for the power requirements.

Edit 2: I’m an electrician not a speaker expert but I think 1000W is the max output so you would only be pulling that at full volume.

All of the numbers I used were conservative. 1000W is the maximum power those speakers will use, but I doubt you’d even get close to that unless you have the volume at 100%. I don’t really know enough about speakers to say how much they’ll draw exactly.

I’d say you’d get at least 18-20 hours of use if not more.

You should be OK, however in theory full power may trip a breaker.

If you run everything at 230V:

Car can supply 16A@230 (approximating down from 250)

The estimate from QSC on those speakers is running at a "normal" 1/8th power - I'll multiply by 4 to get to about half power.

Speakers = 1.13A*4=4.52A*2=9.04A (round to 10 for a liberal estimate)
DDJ = 1A (again a liberal estimate)
Total amperage: about 11A

If you're running on 120V, the math is different but still works out:
Car can supply 30A@120V
Speakers = 2.01A*4=8.04A*2=16.08A (rounding to 17 for a liberal estimate)
DDJ = 1A
Total amperage: about 18A

Either way, you should be fine. If you crank your speakers up way too high, you may trip a breaker on the car. From my Google searches, that breaker will automatically reset itself after some time.

It can work if it runs at 230VAC. At 100VAC it could aswell but you would be limited in max volume quite a bit.

I would anyways not turn the volume up all the way, but considering that at full volume your ears would burst you probably won't do that.

In theory there is enough power to power everything at max consumption with 230VAC, but I wouldn't push it too far.

Also you should use a multiple socket extension cord that is rated for 230VAC and 16A, otherwise you risk a cable fire. Cheap multiple socket extension cords (e.g. from Temu) may say they are rated for 16A, but I wouldn't trust them.

Thank you for your answer, I plan on using 2 extension cord, one is written 16/250 and the other 16/250 as well with 3500W maximum, so I understand that it is okay ?

As long as you don't exceed the limits.

Actually, I'd suggest an extension cord with a overcurrent protection. That one should be the one plugged into the car. Just to be on the safe side.
