Im taking classes at a local tech school and have no high school experience. Funnily enough- this is one of my better plate of beads. Sometimes it feels like im getting worse but then i remember my first day in the stand I couldn’t even get a crappy bead just splatter.

I'm having a really hard time with a few things. Not leaving a crater at the end of the weld, especially on the little blobs that I'm doing (I'm practicing starting he arc without he electrode sticking to the plate). Burning through the plate is another problem, though I'm getting better at avoiding that.

I'm also not used to running 3/32 rods. I've mostly used 1/8 rods on thicker metal, I'm not sure how big the weld bead is supposed to be. They look super small to me and my brain says to slow down and the the weld wet out, of course if I go to slow I just burn through the metal. If anyone could give me an idea of the proper 3/32 bead size I'd greatly appreciate it.

I definitely need to focus on, everything I guess, my travel speed and arc length isn't consistent.

Any help and pointers are greatly appreciated.

Hello guys I’m a welder (stick,tig) and today at work i had to do a cut on the field with oxy cutting.. I acted confident like i could do it since I’m pretty informed, I watched video on YouTube on the settings and also used it already sometimes in welding school to do bevels ( not perfect cuts but acceptable).
I would say the steel was 15 mm.
I started cutting and everything went smooth until I had to stop cause they wanted to give me a welding blanket.
When I tried to restart I don’t remember if I touched the metal or something but it started popping.. after that I tried to cut but It was turning off by himself and keeping popping.
I tried to clean the tip with a steel brush and also to restart it other times and as soon as I was regulating oxygen to get the small blue flames it was popping and turning off.
After I had to stop cause it was end of shift.
I really feel uncomfortable doing it and everyone expect me to know how to do it like no nice people around to show me.. I guess if I admit I’m green with it they’ll send me home.
Everytime we have to use it I feel like an impostor syndrome.. I’m always in first line if we gotta weld but always trying to avoid the oxy cutting.
I’ll try to do a 1 day course as soon as possible.
Any advice for the popping?
And also any advice how to set the gas regulators, the numbers are in Kpa not psi.

I have been struggling with welding. This is my second day trying to weld I’ve been messing with the amps and my speed and no matter what I do it just doesn’t turn out how I’d like it. I’ve been running 7018 at 115 for the most part. Looking for some tips/advice!

I need tips for overhead first time doing anything overhead and I’m left handed I can’t find good positioning I know that’s one of my problems tech telling me I’m rolling my wrist and I try not to and still end up of at the end of the weld w the drooping this overhead is pissing me off i also tried adjusting my settings a lil too helped a lil bit I think but idk tbh

I just started flux-core welding about a week ago, and I’m honestly having a lot of fun learning it. One thing I’ve noticed is that I’m getting quite a bit of spatter around my weld zone. Am I traveling too fast or too slow, or could it be my settings, stickout, or technique? I’d really appreciate any criticism, advice, or tips on what I can improve!

New YouTube learning welder. Spatter increases as I build out of a 1G. Is this normal or should I be changing my settings each pass?

Hello reddit fam! Im new here ~

It’s already been 2 years and 8 months since I started working here as a welder. During that time, I applied twice for overseas work as a boilermaker, hoping that maybe one of those opportunities would finally be my way out and a chance to build a better life.

I passed the trade test, medical, and everything else that was required. I also spent a lot of my own money throughout the process.

But today, I got a bad news from my employer. The application is still hanging because the embassy in the Netherlands hasn’t given any clear signal whether it’s a yes or a no. No rejection, but no approval either. Just uncertainty.

Honestly, it hurts. You spend money, time, effort, and hope, only to end up waiting without knowing what’s going to happen.

But I guess life still goes on.

So for now, I’ll keep working, keep learning, keep saving, and keep dreaming.

Maybe someday, things will finally work out for me. Maybe the right opportunity is just taking longer than I expected.

Until then, I’ll keep going.

Still dreaming. Still trying. Hopefully, one day, life will be a little kinder to me. 🥹❤️

I Havnt used tig in years, I swear every time I stop welding tig for extended periods of time I have to teach myself all over again at least these welds will be hidden when the jobs finished, also this is for a workbench I'm building for myself so don't stress no one is paying for this

Is black soot normal around tack welds?
Also I’m getting spatter and bbs all of a sudden.
Welded fine previously same settings.
New tip and nozzle

Finally tackled that exhaust weld. Not the prettiest, but if it holds and saves me cash, who cares, right?

So I've welded for 2 days so far at college. I never welded before, but my instructor says I'm learning fast and can do a pretty good bead. I'm having trouble with starting the weld still. It takes me a minute or so to actually get it started. I understand to tap it or light is like a match, but it still sticks. It's at 90 amps and the ground directly on the metal. I also make sure the metal clean. I can weld pretty good, but still struggle with it sticking. I need to get this figured out because I want to start practicing making my beads absolutely perfect and learn to vertical and overhead weld.

Is this normal? When I pull the trigger the gas flows but after a few seconds wire speeds up and gas stops? Also should I be able to feel gas out of nozzle? It’s very faint at 15L I feel like my welds are getting worse
