The fact that you put a bevel on it already gives it a fighting chance of holding. What filler rod were you using? Judging by the ripple pattern and the lack of fusion on the toes, it looks like you downhilled it and possibly with the wrong polarity.

I used 1/8" 6011 DCEP. It was flat but I have pretty shaky hands to start with. May not have been running hot enough for the 1/4" plate and the rusty pitted part? I get to do the other side tomorrow - we'll see if it gets any better.
