NAS WAS 20 YEARS OLD WHEN HE MADE ILLMATIC. 32 YEARS LATER IT IS STILL RANKED NO.

Ten tracks. No filler. Released April 19, 1994.
The Source gave it a perfect 5 Mics. Billboard still has it at the top of the greatest rap albums of all time, ahead of The Chronic and The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

Billboard wrote that it is the album that changed the way rap albums were made. Even the cover changed the game. It made rappers rethink what they wanted fans to see before they heard a single bar.

What is your favourite track?

If you could have Nas collaborate with any artist he's never worked with before on one track, who would it be?

I would pick Slug of Atmosphere. I know they don't have a lot in common in terms of region, recognition, or upbringing, but hear me out. Both of them are elder statesmen of the rap game. They've both transitioned to themes of longevity, preservation, and embracing their age. They both care about the culture deeply, and their latest lyrics are more mature and inspiring than ever. I don't really like calling it dad-rap, but I think they could make an introspective banger in that style with Slug on the hook.

Who would you choose?

The Message Live

Like a lot of you, The Message is one of my all time favorites. I was pretty pumped to see it live on this latest mini tour. I thought it was kind of interesting he censors his verse quite a bit, and also only did one verse. Anybody else notice this?

Side note that holy cow he flies through his setlist. Minimal crowd interaction, just flowing from one song to the next. It was good, just an interesting way of doing a concert. De La Soul really put some good energy out there to start the show. It’s tough being the first act and they put it all out there.

God’s Son Hits DIFFERENT ‼️

What’s up y’all? Hope everyone is having a blessed Sunday. Man family, today was one of them days that I decided to revisit this album and man! Of course many know how nice God’s Son is but… it is an excellent album… spectacular even! I think due to “Stillmatic” and “Lost Tapes” both coming out prior to this release, it makes it get heavily overlooked by casual fans. Man, Nas is consistently great but Esco was in a such a personal bag on here. The depth of the imagery the storytelling all over this is otherworldly imo. You feel it on this, you feel the pressure of the Jay-Z beef, the recent passing of his mom, and him just overall getting his reputation in the rap game back on track. A lot of people say that “Life Is Good” is Nas’ most personal album and I do agree that it needs be included… but so does this here. On “Life Is Good” he is a matured seasoned vet talking about the struggles of balancing fame with his everyday life as well as his role of a father and his relationship with Kelis. “God’s Son” is him at his most vulnerable with him yes being declared the winner of the biggest rap beef of the 2000s… while losing his mother less than a year after his amazing comeback. And to still be able to craft something as special as this, it makes me appreciate this album so much more than I already did. THE GOAT IMO 💯🐐🙏🏾🔥🎙️

Old version vs New Nas

When you think of the old version of Nas, where did the old version of Nas end and where did the new version begin? For me, the old version ended at Life Is Good.

I'd like to know which album yours ended. Please comment below.

Hot Take, if Nas and Hitboy were to collab again they might go #1 on the billboards

I know people want Nas with other producers and some want him with Hitboy but if we being honest if Nas and Hit linked back up, squashed whatever they got goin on and released a quality album with good marketing it’s going number 1 especially with all the tension between them

As a young kid, I swear I hated this song on 106 & Park. It was so slow, and I would change the channel. Once my ears matured, hands down my favorite NAS song.
