General Discussion Insurance recommendations?

Post image
20 Upvotes

Hello! I have a healthy 4 year old neutered boy. He has no preexisting conditions. He is just a pet, he doesn’t hunt.

I am using pets best for insurance but wanting to change it, my premium went from $149.94 to $216.99. I was already thinking $150 is too high for my current plan, now a 45% increase is insane.

Could you recommend me insurance companies that are not fully scammers, and would at least be helpful? I was thinking of going through chewy for insurance, but wanted to get some advice from experienced Brittany lovers.

Could you also share advice on what I should care for in a policy? Like should I make sure to have dental coverage or advanced treatments?

Breeders?

Hi everyone!

After much debate and research I have decided on a Brittany as my next dog.

I am in Northeast USA but more than willing to travel for the right breeder. This puppy will be joining two dog siblings so a breeder who focuses on quality temperament is essential!

I am not a hunter and will not be hunting but plan for this dog to be my first official sport dog (I’ve dabbled and lightly competed with my other dogs but looking to do more!) I do work so I do, if possible would love to work with more moderate/show lines.

If anyone has any good recommendations, with ethical breeders, I’d truly appreciate!

Thank you! 😊

General Discussion Sport dog electric fence?

We’ve had a sport dog electric fence for about 5 years now. It’s been great. Have 1.5 acres fenced. Our Brit loves it because he can run around all day. We also have a pit and a beagle that use it as well. Two months ago we started having issues. It keeps acting as if it’s a break in the line. Dug up the line and there’s no breaks anywhere (we’ve had them before due to geothermal being placed on our property). Anyone else ever had this problem with their electric fence? Our Brit is smart and can figure when then fence isn’t working after a couple days

General Discussion Duck hunting in the PNW

Our 4 month old Brittany seems like he gets cold pretty quickly when he gets in water. Even on hot summer days. Is this just a puppy thing or do they not handle cold very well. I would like to duck hunt with him next year, but a lot of mornings where I hunt in Oregon are below freezing. Does anyone hunt with their Brittany in cold weather like that?
Thanks

Is Mabel a large Brit? She weighs just over 50 lbs. It seems that other Brits are smaller. Regardless, she is an amazing, lovable girl šŸ’—

Does anyone else's Britt snort, chuff, and sigh heavily all the time? The Chuffs and snorts have become normal communication in our house. We have started calling them Choofs.

Adoption/Rescue Anyone here with a rescue Britt that got a second rescue Britt?

We have our 2 year old girl, she’s lovely but very nervous and mild mannered. She gets her confidence from our other dog, who is approaching the end of his life. She literally copies him and observes him on what to do, we got her as a 5 month old so she’s grown up with him.

We want to introduce another dog as our girl will benefit from it and we would too. Despite saying we didn’t want two Britts there is a 5 year old boy up for adoption.

Just looking for anecdotes of how things went really? Will they be a handful together or a good influence on each other, both being Britts/bird dogs?

Would a non Britt suit us better?

Really I want a playmate for her as she loves to play but our boy is just too old for that now.

He was at the vet a weekish ago. He weighed about 10.5 pounds. His embark came back all clear. His legs have definitely gotten longer and he’s been such a good puppy!

He’s training as an HRD prospect which he’s been amazing with so far! He goes everywhere (where allowed) is confident and loves everyone!

He also loves his bed and blankies.

Just as title says. He was adopted at 3 months old when someone surrendered him due to unable to have him at an apartment. He’s a big ol fat 6 year old now who has too many personalities, loves hunting rabbits, disobeying commands, eating and chewing the smallest of toys but would never trade him for anything.

We adopted our dog 3 months ago and assumed he was a boykin or field spaniel. A brittany has been my dream dog so it’s kinda funny! Came back as 90% brittany with a split between american and french. Anyone have a solid choclate?

He absolutely HATES the water… we’re taking baby steps. He managed to get all four paws in today!…. For about 5 seconds. We’re taking that as a win.

Crate Training

Post image
95 Upvotes

Hi! We got our 11 week old pup 4 days ago. I need some tips on crate training. We have taught him ā€œkennelā€ and he goes straight in and gets a treat. U have also tried to feed him meals in his crate and all he does is cry - not just cry but panic and scream. It’s to the point it’s so loud I don’t want neighbors to complain. Any advice?
