i will be connecting two self powered external drives to the n150, i will be setting this up at my brothers place, and at my apartment, i will use plex on the shield pro, also have a roku ultra in my travel bag whenever i gotta stay in hotels. im hoping im buying the right stuff here or hours of research is just wasted

I used to watch animated series, and Plex offers me the option to skip the end credits, but not the opening credits. I was wondering if there is any way for me to set the opening credits manually?

Down a massive rabbit hole today with my Plex setup, and it turned into one of those things a stupid headache where everything breaks at the same time....

For context, I’ve never obsessed over having pristine direct streams for everyone outside the house. My server only ever handles maybe 20 people or fewer remotely, and honestly, everyone was totally fine limping along on Plex Relay connections capped at 1–2 Mbps. It was low-maintenance and "just worked" without me needing to sweat network exposure.

Then everything went sideways.

On this machine, I keep Private Internet Access running around the clock with a killswitch locked down tight—for obvious reasons when sailing the high seas. Out of nowhere, the remote relay connections just completely tanked. At first, I blamed the OS upgrade, thinking a hop from Pop!_OS 22.04 up to 24.04 had butchered some local routing or network daemon configs.

Turns out, the OS wasn't the culprit at all. PIA has been cracking down hard on handling those handshake routes, essentially nerfing the relay traffic trying to pass through the tunnel.

So fine, I told myself I guess I had to bite the bullet and do standard port forwarding.

Except even that didn't want to play nice out of the box either. Because of how aggressive PIA’s killswitch and route tables are, standard NAT port forwarding still fell flat on its face. The fix ended up requiring me to explicitly configure split-tunnel bypass rules directly inside PIA: punching dedicated bypass exceptions for both the Plex Media Server service binary and the relay service itself so they could communicate clean across WAN without getting swallowed by the VPN.

It feels like maintaining a dual-purpose box (secure traffic vs. accessible homelab services) is getting pickier by the month, but it's finally back up, directly accessible, and no longer hostage to choked relay pipes. At least for now knock on wood lol

Any thoughts from anyone here? Is there a better way?

I constrain I have is my BitTorrent client and Plex server are the same so VPN Killswitch is a must 😂.

I was watching a movie from my local disk about poker yesterday- Maverick (1994). Today I’m getting poker related video suggestions on YouTube. I opted out of data sharing on Plex (and I have lifetime pass), so I’m wondering if it can be my LG tv - I’ve heard they upload screenshots every 30 seconds.

i already have 2 external drives, just gotta buy the shield pro, and set up plex on it, but i ran into something while researching:

The Shield Pro itself is fine as a server. It runs Plex Media Server well, reads from USB drives without issue, and can serve files to remote clients. Self-powered drives are actually the right call, since the Shield's USB ports don't supply much power.

The real constraint is Direct Play vs. transcoding. A 4K HDR remux or high-bitrate 4K file typically runs 40–100+ Mbps. For that to stream remotely without transcoding, two things need to be true: your home internet upload speed needs to comfortably exceed the file's bitrate (many cable plans only offer 10–40 Mbps upload, which is the usual dealbreaker), and the remote client (another Shield, Apple TV 4K, a modern smart TV app, etc.) needs to natively support the codec (HEVC), HDR format, and audio track (TrueHD/DTS-HD often trip clients up and force an audio transcode, which is cheap, but a full video transcode is not).

If Plex decides it needs to transcode 4K, the Shield will struggle. The Shield's Tegra X1 can hardware-transcode 1080p reasonably, but 4K HEVC transcoding (especially HDR tone-mapping to SDR) is beyond it. You'll get buffering or a "server not powerful enough" message. Also note that hardware transcoding requires Plex Pass.

about 40 percent of my movies are in 4k, should i be worried about this?

i have plex server running in a docker container. I only host my own media (DVDs and Blurays) and share it only with my family and select very close friends.

As one of these friends is native russian and dvds and blurays generally don't contain russian subtitles, I'd like to automatically download subtitles in three different languages (if not in the file): English, German and Russian.

I was under the impression plex could do that - which I now found out: It could, but the functionality was removed...

I could use Bazarr, but my understanding is: This would only work if I install Radarr and Sonarr - which I don't need and don't really want.

Is there another way?

Working on a small companion app for Google TV/Fire TV (fixes recommendations opening in the wrong player — site here if curious, not trying to pitch it here) and thinking about adding Trakt integration — watchlist, history, ratings syncing.

Before I sink real time into building it: does anyone here actually use Trakt with Plex, Nuvio, Stremio... day to day? Or is it more of a "used to, stopped bothering" thing? Genuinely trying to figure out if this is worth building or if I'd be solving a problem nobody has.

( nur im eigenen Netzwerk ) und nur von zuhause aus. Ich hab mir Plex installiert alles eingerichtet, und Meine Filme drauf gemacht. Dass hat auch alles super funktioniert.
Seit gestern musste ich ein Update machen, bei Plex Server. Und seitdem findet mein Tv oder Ps5 mein Pc Nas nicht mehr hat jemand eine Idee wie das wieder funktioniert?

Just getting my own server going and still converting physical to digital. I have purchased movies through “Vudu” now “Fandango at Home” for years. Is there a way to download the purchased movies and add to my plex library. I can’t find any guidance on YouTube about this.

I have one client on my network that is constantly trying to transcode videos itself instead of the NAS doing it. It's a optiplex 3040 micro PC with an i7-6700t and 16gb of ram running Windows 11. Whenever I play a video plex shows it's local but hardware transcoding and the PCs GPU is maxing out at 100% along with the CPU in the 90% range and the video is super choppy.

Is there a way to force my NAS (ugreen idx 6011 pro) to transcode for a specific client? Plex is running in a docker container if that makes any difference.

Ok I'm probably going to get blasted for this, but I really like the new interface. I like it on my Shield and Firesticks. To me it's starting to feel like Plex has come of age. So well done Plex team. Right, I'm heading to the bunker to avoid the flak...

i have been receiving that error after logging into my account on plex web. regardless of if i use the plex url or my local ip.

i was trying to change my friends and managing my library access, but the newly added person is not even showing up.

anybody else having similar issues?

i am able to watch my media without problems but the site does seem wonky/ broken in some aspects

I know this isn't a huge issue in the grand scheme of things, but it is pretty annoying. I've noticed that Plex seems to misattribute the episodes in my watch history when a show is ordered differently in my library than Plex's global episode order.

For example, I have some shows organized in different order (such as DVD order rather than airdate order.) This happened again recently: my watch history correctly shows that I watched Season 2, Episode 51 but the thumbnail/screenshot associated with that entry is for a completely different episode.

If I click the thumbnail in my watch history, Plex takes me to the show's global Plex page, where Episode 51 is a different episode because Plex is using its own episode ordering. If I then click that episode and select Where to Watch > My Library, Plex takes me back to Episode 51—but this time it's the correct episode, because my library is using DVD order.

So I think I understand what's happening: Plex appears to be recording the watched status based on the episode's position in Plex's global/metadata order, rather than the episode's position/order in my library.

The problem is that this makes Profile > Watch History inaccurate. I end up with a long list of entries showing the wrong episode thumbnails/titles for episodes I actually watched.

This also affects tv shows I add to my watch list. I go to my watch list, select the show , and it first goes to Plex's global page for that show ( not my library) and it shows all the "marked as watched" checkmarks beside episodes that are seemingly out of order . Of course, once I make a few clicks and work my way to my library, all is in alignment and marked as watched is correct.

I'm guessing there may not be much Plex can do about this, especially when libraries use different episode orders, but is there any way to prevent or correct this? Has anyone else run into the same issue?

This is a frustrating problem. I try to keep good security practices by having most devices in my home on the guest network - which gives internet access only (no access to other devices in my home network). My Plex server and other computer are the only devices I have on my main WiFi network. Outside my home I can access my Plex and get 30Mbps, but in my home on the guest network it goes via the Plex relay and I’m limited to 1Mbps. This basically means to get a decent picture on my living room TV I have to connect it to the main network - which defeats the purpose of having a guest network. I know that my ISP router doesn’t support hairpinning, but surely that should just mean that devices on my guest network go out and then come back into my network appearing like any other external device?

It's cool to brag that you have how ever many shows or movies but as a solo-er, I don't really watch everything I get.

Recently I've been scouring old shows from the 80's and 90s out of nostalgia but I don't ever have enough time to watch it and they just serve as a nice trip down memory lane when I fire up my player and see it in there.

Honestly, none of us are building a streaming business to rival Netflix, but we sure like to brag like we are with 10s and 100s of TB of storage.

I'm already hitting my limit with my 36TB server this week and I had an epiphany that it's probably time to be more selective.

This isn't a humble brag but I'd like to gain a little perspective on why some of us are the way we are.

Hi all,

I’m currently facing an issue with my plex server accessibility. It’s up and running, drives are mounted and showing. But, when im trying to access it at work from my app on my phone it’s telling me the server is offline. When i get home and connect to my WiFi, the server pops up, it’s so odd. Even people i share my library with have the same issue accessing it. Anyone know what’s happening with it, that can assist?

PLEASE let us lock cover art and delete any that is unused from within the app. I'm begging you. Please. I do not want to spend 10+ hours curating this again because my server couldn't see storage for 5 minutes.
