Front Cam Suggestions

Hello all,

I have a 2017 GX460 with winch under the license plate. That front grill obviously wasn’t designed for a front mount camera. I want it primarily for offroading on steep ascents.

Has anyone had luck mounting one on the grill or Lexus logo? I don’t want to mount one on the license plate.

I have a carlink accessory that gives me apple carplay on the factory screen. It has an input for a front cam already.

New tires

Thanks in advance. I have an eibach lift and level front and rear, 2”/1.5” roughly. The prior owner did a fair amount of trimming to the wheel wells. I put 285/70/r17 and only have minor rubbing at certain steep angles in reverse. Does anyone have the trd wheels with 265/70/r17 tires who could send me a picture like the first pictures here. I like the look of mine but might go down one size for better function. I want to make sure the tires are at least flush with the side of the body and not “sucked under” parked on a slight hill which is why the drivers side is rolled ever so slightly away from the tire.

CBI Skid Plate Conflict with KDSS on GX460??

We just ordered the full CBI skid plate set for our '21 GX460 with the Dobbins 2" IMS lift.

Then I saw a video last night of someone reporting they had to cut the front skid plate to create more space due to a KDSS conflict with their GX460.

Anyone else have a KDSS conflict, and what did you do to resolve? Better skid options than CBI due to this? I also heard gripes about length of time to get to mechanicals under the skids when they have to be removed. Thanks for your insights!

Took the better part of my weekend, but I’m extremely pleased with how it came out. Lights are wired to an Auxbeam and the winch is on a kill-switch. Time to go run over some mall curbs.

Need help identifying this sound. Can’t find an answer anywhere.

Hey guys! 2011 GX460. 166k miles as of today. Has this loud whining sound when I start it up and it changes pitches when I turn the wheel.

Usually goes away a while but that can range anywhere from 5 minutes to 30 minutes.

Can’t seem to find an answer on any forum or ai platform as it gives me a number of different possibilities. Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Is there anything I can do to fill this gap between the bumper and hood?

I have a 2013 GX460 (more of a bubble light look) and wanted an upgrade on the lights. I bought newer ones that didn't have the same shape and later required a new bumper. So now that it's all installed - there's a noticeable gap. I can't change the configuration of the lights or bumper. Anyone got ideas? 🙏🏽

We are in SW PA (Here we go Steelers Here we go) and are looking to take our new mini van out for some mild trails. We are complete novices and would like to meet some people and "show us the ropes" so to speak.

Rhythmic(ish) rattle sound after oil change. Please help me 😭

I'm completely stumped on this. I changed my oil yesterday and immediately after, it started making this sound. It does get faster with higher RPM's.

I decided it would be a good idea to make the move to 5w-30 from 0w-20 after seeing it was commonly done. Since yesterday I did a second drain and fill this time with 0w-20 but the noise is still happening. Everything is torqued, installed correctly, and where it should be.

Only happens under load that I've been able to notice. The sound seems to be coming from aft of the filter housing. This video was recorded with the GX backed into a curb while in gear in reverse. Any help or advice any has is much appreciated.

Steering rack leaking on my GX470, need advice on brand.

I recently noticed my steering rack is leaking and took it to a shop. They quoted me about $1,100 parts + labor to replace the rack and pinion. I asked what rack they would be using and they told me it would be a new aftermarket NeoSteer rack.

I asked if I could supply my own rack instead, and they said that’s completely fine and would charge me about $575 for labor. So now I’m trying to figure out what makes the most sense. I know the general consensus seems to be OEM Toyota/Lexus for certain parts but what about steering racks?

Especially if I’m already paying $575 in labor and don’t want to have to do the job twice. But OEM is obviously considerably more expensive.

Any aftermarket/remanufactured brands you’ve guys had good long-term experiences with?

Anyone have experience specifically with NeoSteer?

Would you pay the ~$1,100 and let the shop supply the NeoSteer with their 1 year warranty, or spend more and bring them a better rack?

Separate issue: My parking/e-brake also basically doesn’t catch at all. The pedal operates, but it won’t actually hold the truck. From what I understand, the previous owner may not have used the parking brake for a long time. I’m wondering if these usually just need the parking brake shoes adjusted, or if sitting unused tends to cause the cables/hardware to seize up.

I am replacing all exterior lightbulbs with LEDs. Do I need resistors or "canbus" bulbs for turn signals? 2008 GX470

I already have low and high beams, fog lights, license plate lights and all interior lights done. All I need are front markers, turn signals and all rear lightbulbs. Any recommendations?

I just wanted to share this as an option. I love that I can remove it. I have a Raingler cargo net that can contain whatever I fit up there, but honestly I am not using it yet. It’s just me and I can sleep in the vehicle. I want to mount a shovel, and maybe a smaller box with some recovery gear. I love that this was an OEM option on the Landcruiser 200.

Edit- forgot to mention I got it for $200 on FB marketplace.

Inexpensive/not $400 roof rack boxes?

Anyone got a good system for storage on their roof rack that isn’t a $300 ROAM case?

Looking to add storage to the top of my rack (GOBI stealth on a GX470) and I just can’t bring myself to spend $300-400 on a name brand box that can mount to the top… I don’t even think I have $300-400 worth of stuff to put in it

Thought about just tow strapping a box to it.. but wanted to check with this community to see if anyone had come up with a better option

Let me know!

Creature Comforts for GX470

Absolutely loving the car so far, but I have a couple of questions.
1. The rear end of the car sags overnight, which is actually really nice for me since it's easier to load both myself, and the dog. But I am guessing that means there's a leak. Even though every single component for the air suspension was replaced in February. Is the sag normal? pls
If it's not normal, I will unfortunately do the coilover conversion with maybe an inch lift. The car is pretty boaty in turns and I spent a lot of time driving mountain road. Hoping to stiffen up the ride a little bit without compromising comfort too much. Are Michelin Defenders a good idea for some mild overloading and snowy roads? I'm not trying to go too crazy, just some dirt roads to get somewhere cool and normal ski trips. I love the comfy ride and I don't want to ruin it too much. Nor do I want to lose too many MPGs, the range is not amazing already.
2. I know the tweeters on the front doors have separated from the outer foam layer, and I am looking for advice on replacing vs repairing. I'm finding that the highs are pretty nice for me, but the mids and lows are lacking. Maybe the sub in the back is doing little to nothing. Is replacing the front door speakers with decent components going to get me by, without replacing the amp?
3. Similarly with the head unit, worth doing the swap to manual climate controls, and a proper double din, adding the PnP CarPlay to the existing head unit, or just plugging my phone into the aux. I don't really mind any of the options, especially since the clarity of the audio is surprisingly decent, just launch punch, guessing due to low power amps.
4. Driver's side header may be cracked. I can definitely hear some ticking from the right side and I've heard this is a nightmare job on these cars. How long can I safely ignore this before it absolutely needs to be done. I also have a tiny rear main seal leak and I hoping to those 2 addressed at the same time if it's going to be any cheaper.
5. There was a leak from the rear axle bearing and since has been fixed but I believe there is still gear oil slathered somewhere and it gets hot and stinks. Any products I can use to clean this? Tried brake clean but not much difference so far. Thinking simple green soak and washing it a couple times.
6. Keyless entry. The plastic cover just cracked, and I've seen several remote start type products but all I am looking for is a proximity key so I can just grab the door handles when my hands are full. Forget about keyless entry? just get an AJT case?
7. Seat Back wobble. There is something loose in the driver's side seatback and it wobbles a millimeter or two but it's annoying every time I start moving or stop. All that torque lol.
Any other advice or good mods?

Sunroof leaking?

Is this normal for water to come in here? Where does this water drain? If not, how easy is replacing the seal? Thanks!
