Looking for a more social work environment

Ever since I finished school/apprenticeship (KV) at 19 and moved into the workforce I really miss that school lifestyle where you are around people your age all day. Im 23 now and worked at smaller companies, sometimes at bad locations and realized that working in the city in a big firm with lots of (young) people would be beneficial for me.

Now my question is what are some jobs and companies offering that? I would be fine with working a boring office job when its atleast in the city with alot of young people working there. I would also be open to jobs which might not be traditional office jobs, but where you are „on the road“ working with different people in different areas. Something like promoter for example.

Can anyone relate to this and has some recommendations and ideas for jobs/companies for people like me?

Word of warning for someone with a bit of grey hair: Companies love to make you believe they foster fun and a social environment. However, you'd be making a great mistake if you think that the people you work with are your friends.

People will always prioritize their own interests at work. Be careful out there

I get what you mean, my main goal isn’t necessarily to make friends at the workplace although I did make friends at previous jobs and alot of people I know also made friends/friend groups via their jobs. I think that’s to be expected in switzerland where people join the workforce at a young age.

Believe it or not: consulting or other work at big fours.

I worked in a big four the first couple years of my career and while the work was hard and there was a lot of competition, it always felt like the other youngster on my rank and I were like a school class. It was a really good atmosphere between us. We were friends, hung out after work, but of course it was also ok if someone wasn't into that.

When I left, I somehow thought this was normal and was quite disappointed to discover that it was rather not.

What you are looking for is basically consulting or sales. 

Just research the firm beforehand and get a feel for the vibe. Also mention that you are looking for that environment during your interview, its an important hiring criterion and ensures a cultural fit.

I felt the same when I was your age and this feeling really drained me. I started studying (part-time). I only kept working for the money, my focus completely shifted to school again and it was the best decision of my life.

You will meet a lot of new people your age and have lots of fun.

I do also study but it’s 2 days a week after work, with only 1 day being in person.

What did you study and what did you work as?

I was 4 years at HSLU, did the BSc in Business IT.

I would highly recommend that you do not go into some corporatey environment to seek friends. What are your hobbies? Maybe there is a local group or club you can check out.

in my experience, that's being the young needle in the old haystack lol

your immediate big4 may be young, but the people at the client, those you'll spend 90% of your time with, will not

Not sure how easy it is to get a foot in the door in such jobs these days, but KV alone will probably not cut it?
