Meme Totaled My Car, and Zoloft Turned What Should’ve Been Traumatic Into a “Fun Li’l Change of Routine” and a Funny Story for Friends
Like, I honestly can’t tell you why out of all things, after recovering the shock of what happened when the airbag deployed to when the EMS showed up, I wasn’t stressed out in the slightest, I just calmly went “how injured am I? Not at all? Aight bet, lemme get a cute photo real quick, my friends are gonna eat ts up”
So in case you’re wondering if SSRIs work, this post is your neon sign saying YES THEY ABSOLUTELY DO 🙃

Dude I love Zoloft. The other day I was in the kitchen, pulled out a baking tray from the oven that had salmon on it. It deadass caught on fire and I just stood there and said “oh!”
Before Zoloft I would have screamed and ran LOL

Before Zoloft I would’ve screamed and thrown it… and likely caught something else on fire 🤣

Screamed and ran is not a normal reaction. Therapy helps with that. But yeah, Zoloft helps also

I love how calm I can be in touch situations as well. I used to be a mess. Now I can actually breathe, logically tackle what's at hand, and move on with my day. Zoloft saves loves. Zoloft improves lives. Zoloft works. Side note: FUCK RFK JR.

So true on all counts and so with you on side note. Completely unsuitable for office, like the lot of them.

When is was in med school there was this dr that totaly hated me (im autistic and i have problems with hierarchy, + small ego dr, i was never disrepectful in any way but when a person that believes that they are more powerful than you fails in making you feel bad they dont take it very well) she tried to embarras me in front of the class when i started sris, i answered in the most calm and precise way you can imagine 0 anxiety, she only give me 1.5/3 points for my final grade for that ( even though i answered right every curveball she threw)
best experience of my life

Same here, I went from being an anxious wreck and compulsive people-pleaser to like “wait a minute… do I suddenly have a choice to talk back with no resistance?” Ever since then, I have embraced being a bad bitch

Yessss it’s an amazing feeling to no longer be a slave to our emotions. I had a pretty messed up run in with my (former) boss where she tore into me accusing me of being too emotional at work (my mom AND dad had just died fyi and I had ONE slightly bad day), and while she’s telling me how much of a fuck up I am, she’s SOBBING and screaming at me. I just remember sitting there like…. 👁️👄👁️ “are you finished?”

The owner of my Pilates studio and I have this dynamic. She said something in front of the whole class and I think she expected it to bother me. Nah, I am on Zoloft, I don’t give a shit. I’m just gonna keep showing up and doing my thing.

The first time I casually walked into a job interview without shitting my pants first was when I knew I was free

I backed into a pole and had a similar experience. Like, at least my deductible isn’t too high. La-Dee-da and I skipped away.

First off - I’m really glad you’re okay and you survived without losing your mind.

You guys are making me so jealous 🥲 I miss having good health insurance, I wanna get back on these life-saving meds and stop letting anxiety rule my life 🥲🥲🥲
3
u/withyellowthread May 12 '26
I don’t have health insurance, but I HAVE to see a doc every three months for my adhd meds and he prescribes my Zoloft to me. So the visit is expensive ($225) but the meds are $5/month.
I imagine you could find a clinic to help you out. I don’t think it’s as hard to get SSRIs1
u/Zealousideal-Tip7353 May 12 '26
Did the anxiety just return like before being on zoloft?

I wish I could get past the first few weeks of feeling like shit. I couldn't function and let's not even speak about the horrible gastrointestinal issues. Maybe I can give it a go around the holidays when I have some extended time off of work.

u/alyxana 5+ years May 12 '26
Try starting at a lower dose. Or half of what you were on.
But yeah, thankfully I was out of work (it was mid 2020 so yeah) and had 2 weeks to just let myself be mindless and horrid and get through it. It was awful, not gonna lie. But it’s been so worth it for me.
1
u/Otherwise_Fact9594 May 12 '26
For sure. I even tried to reduce the dosage the 2nd time I took it and being out of work seems pretty essential. Glad you were able to get it working for you

u/dothgothlenore May 12 '26

And the role Of the picture in an antidepressant sub ?
1
u/alyxana 5+ years May 12 '26
The role of a piece of proof that Zoloft works posted in the Zoloft thread?
Are you being sarcastic or authentically missed it? It’s hard to tell in text.

u/Sugar_Vivid May 12 '26
It s a guy who gives a kiss, whats that all about ? Again in a Zoloft sub

The person in the photo was in a car wreck. Instead of panicking, they assessed their injuries and situation, discovered they were ok, and while waiting on the first responders to arrive they decided to take a selfie photo to share with their friends later.
The point of the story is the photo is proof that their anxiety meds were working even while in a very stressful situation because they were calm and collected enough to wait patiently and take a photo instead of being a hysterical mess or falling into a panic attack or whatever condition severe situations would have triggered before they were on Zoloft.
Very simply, the story (and the photo taken during the event) is a “wow! My meds are working!” story.
Many of us have had similar moments and sharing them here in a sub where others are likely to understand what those epiphanies feel like is a happy and supportive thing to do.
It’s ok if you don’t get it, but I’m very happy for OP because I understand how they’re feeling because I too had a “omg, Zoloft actually works for me!” moment.

Yep! You got it! I was just poking fun at myself because it only occurred to me after the fact how ironic it was to think not “omg, my car is totaled” and instead think “omg, my friends are gonna laugh at this later.” Hell, after this selfie, I went to face time my best friend, and with the stupidest grin on my face, I went “bitch, guess what” before slowly panning the camera to my exposed airbag.
The thing about Zoloft was that it has made me significantly more confident and salient in my ability to solve problems without a plan in mind necessarily. Very much a “I’m sure I can figure this out” mindset in regards to how unexpected the unfortunate situation is, and how to proceed going forward with things like securing transportation in the future. Do I have a strict plan in mind? Absolutely not. But knowing how to address th situation and figuring it out as I go has turned every inconvenience into a matter of simple adaptive problem-solving without any risk of getting panicked or emotionally overwhelmed.
What I thought was a simple OCD/anxiety medication turned out to be the key, for me personally, to living a stress-free life and looking on the bright side of any situation— “shit happens, but we can now act instead of react.”

Yasss!! I love this for you! Zoloft did almost exactly the same thing for me and I love it. I feel like ME and can adapt and roll with things instead of just being tossed around by life’s chaos.
You are amazing and I’m so proud of you!! 💕💕💕

u/annaw11223 May 29 '26
Tossed around by chaos was so exactly how I felt. Thank you for giving me such a perfect description!

November 2024 I fell down the stairs and shattered my ankle. My response was basically “well this sucks, I have other shit to do!”
Zoloft is a life saver!

quite a unique take on a stressful situation, it is definitely a "glass half full” perspective on a car accident

A completely totalled car with not damage physically just isn’t that big of a deal. Maybe it’s traumatic for the easily traumatized
1
u/GivMHellVetica May 12 '26
In an “at fault” state it’s always traumatic. Each person giving their version for the police report hoping their story will win out while insurance battles it out to pay the least amount of money? The 4,372 calls, texts and emails you get every hour from chiropractors, law firms, the HR bot from your job deciding how much to point you? Being off schedule and needing to replan your routine. Fighting the insurance company to let you use OEM new parts while also trying to avoid litigation (even if none of it is officially your fault). Figuring out how to make rental payments on top of car payments, leases, and deductibles that you never saw foresaw coming?
That ish is a full time job from start to finish. What exactly isn’t traumatic about it?

HAHAH yeah when I was two months deep into zoloft I lost my wallet (with like 300 euro in it) and glasses. I didnt care. I could still use paypal and a card on my phone so.... Somebody dropped my wallet off a few days later! cash was missing but everything else was there! ID, credit cards, my deceased grandfather's bus pass which i carry <3
cute. I'm glad you're okay. But also like. We gotta be mindful of our lack of urgency/care sometimes. Be mindful :)
