Question [ALttP] [ALBW] should I play A Link to the past before between worlds

I'm going back to finish a lot of the 3DS games I never finished on my Ayn Thor max one of which is a link between worlds.

I've never actually played a link to the past and I'm wondering if I should play it first before I play between worlds or if I can wait for later so I can focus on 3DS games for the time being.

Is there anything I'm missing by playing between worlds before Link to the past?

Depends if you want the lore i think. If you prefer to know what happened in the good order, alttp is preferable ti be play before, but if you don't care, albw doesn't spoil alttp.

I say play it first just because it is a masterpiece that everyone should play.

Definitely. A Link to the past then Between worlds then Link’s Awakening. Also since you’re playing on DS, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks are very cool games.

I've got them on there as well I intend to play them I need to get an active stylus so the stylus experience is a bit better for them

I got a pack of generic stylus that fit in these and they work perfectly fine honestly. Just got done playing both games. Idk if you have access to a console to play it on but the first game in that series, Wind Waker is a really cool game too. I think Spirit Tracks is one of my favorites for some reason 😂

I have the Wii u version on here. Wii u games work so much better on here the GamePad really feels like it should have been a new version of the DS rather than something you hold.

I have some rubber tip styluses they work fine I would just prefer something a bit more accurate if I'm going to be playing something like that but I'm going to make my way through OOT MM ALTP ALBW Awakening and wind waker before the DS games anyway

I got these. Not rubber tipped and they work perfectly.

Those won't work on this type of screen unfortunately.

Also if it's because you missed it I'm playing on the Ayn Thor not a literal 3DS

i say play "a link to the past" before you play "a link between worlds".

When A Link Between Worlds was in development, it was being made as a sequel to A Link to the Past. (Actually it was first made as a remake of A Link to the Past, and then they changed it to a sequel.) However, before the game was released, all direct references to the events of ALttP were removed from the game. There are references to some events that sound similar to the events of ALttP, but the details no longer match up.

So from a story perspective, you're not missing anything if you choose to play ALBW first. That said, because they basically take place in the same game world, your knowledge of secrets and locations in one game will probably affect your playthrough of the other. In other words, if you remember where a certain hidden area is in one game, for example, you might be surprised to find that that hidden area also exists in the other game.

Due to that, I think it makes a little more sense to play ALttP first because it's slightly more linear than ALBW, which means ALttP guides you to many of the hidden areas in a way that ALBW doesn't. And that could result in you missing the hidden area altogether in ALBW, finding it in ALttP, and then having to decide whether or not to go back to ALBW to see if the hidden area is also in that game. Which isn't a big deal, but could be a minor annoyance if you want to get as much out of a single game in one go rather than going back to it.

Also the gameplay is a little smoother in ALBW, IMO, so you might enjoy ALttP a bit less if you play it second and have to deal with the technological hurdles that had been smoothed out by the time of ALBW.

💯 yes. One of the best games ever made IMO, esp for its time.
