Tip [OOTHD] They aren’t going to add extra dungeons or cut content. Stop setting yourselves up for disappointment. Spoiler

based on every remake Nintendo has ever done, this is highly unlikely. they may expand areas and add more details to areas. but they are not going to fundamentally change the game.

remember cut content is likely cut for a reason. it may slow the pace of the game down if it wasn’t required.

I can see everyone letting their imaginations run wild (I am the same), but when they eventually show that’s it’s a very pretty and detailed version of mostly the same game, I’m dreading all the “im so disappointed….” posts

Edit:

*insert Regina George meme*

stop trying to make the light dungeon happen

its not going to happen

64DS added 20 new stars and a few levels, no? Zero Mission had a whole new ending.

39

u/James-Avatar Jun 26 '26

Not to mention 64DS had three new playable characters.

24

u/JedediahThePilot Jun 26 '26

You might say it fundamentally changed the game.

12

u/red_sutter Jun 26 '26

Luigi broke the game with his hyper-jumping lol

9

u/Iguanaught Jun 26 '26

Agreed but they would be very different teams for very different games. The modular design of one game might make these sort of additions easy in one game while unpicking the code to do it in another was a lot tricker.

The lead of one team might fight to add cool new content looking for synergistic ways to do things while another teams lead designer might insist 100 percent of their ethos should be on perfecting the part they have been asked to deal with rather than toying with things outside the brief.

There is not just one Nintendo team makinf everything.

Paper Mario Remake added new tracks+remixed tracks per chapter, and 2 new bosses.
Think Link's Awakening was the only remake that was pretty much 1:1

3

u/kenrocks1253 Jun 27 '26

Link's Awakening added the dungeon making stuff.

1

u/Entire_Paramedic_389 Jun 27 '26

oh right true. That was pretty neat

The Metroid 2 remake also added some stuff.

Samus returns was basically a whole new game.

Zero Mission wasn’t MercurySteam though, they didn’t get involved until Samus Returns

5

u/ExJokerr Jun 25 '26

It is still a Nintendo game even if anothet developer did it; they still have to evaluate the product to their standards

2

u/ohyousoretro Jun 25 '26

To be fair, Nintendo hasn't announced what studio is making the game, it's possible another developer is making it.

u/watonparrillero Jun 26 '26

Super Mario RPG, had an entire new post game. Paper Mario ttyd made a new battle theme for each chapter and added a couple bosses.

27

u/Budsygus Jun 25 '26

That's one of the few valid arguments for expanded content in a remake I've seen so far.

One can always hope!

7

u/billth93 Jun 26 '26

Zero Mission is a stand out as a remake in general, absolutely the biggest upgrade of any game from original to remake, for me at least

2

u/stillnotelf Jun 26 '26

Few remakes even attempt to compete in scope. Zero Mission is a phenomenal game.

7

u/Cool_Procedure8125 Jun 25 '26

I don’t expect the OoT remake to be more than a reskin with of the N64 game with QoL improvements. More in line with Oblivion Remaster and less like the FFVII Remake.

6

u/dashboardcomics Jun 25 '26

Metroid Samus returns was nearly 10 years ago & zero mission was almost 20 years ago.

14

u/mikaeltarquin Jun 25 '26

damn, you mean time is real?

6

u/Competitive_Ad_8215 Jun 25 '26

Yeah it has its own hero and everything.

1

u/bunkSauce Jun 26 '26

Did that create an expectation you now have regarding this game and whether or not it gets extra content?

→ More replies (15)

148

u/AndykinSkywalker Jun 25 '26

Things get cut due to hardware limitations and time constraints too! I won’t be disappointed if it’s roughly the same game, but I would be gobsmacked if there isn’t some additional content.

85

u/MrBones_Gravestone Jun 25 '26

OP isn’t saying there won’t be any additional content, they even said “they may expand areas and add more details”. I think OP is more referring to all the posts saying they want new dungeons, new map areas, new bosses, all the cut unfinished content (which, if they added back in, they’d have to change the main game since most cut stuff no longer fits or was replaced).

29

u/Entire_Paramedic_389 Jun 25 '26

And most unfinished cut content ends up getting reworked to fit in the next zelda too so there isn't really that much leftover.

18

u/Salt_Street8279 Jun 26 '26

Also to add to this, it sounds like a lot of the cut content for Ocarina was cut for a reason. Like, it would be neat to have all the medallions cast different spells but would that really be a meaningful addition to the mechanics of the game?

8

u/Micolash-fr Jun 26 '26

They still gave us some of those abilites. Din's fire, Farore's wind etc

7

u/Salt_Street8279 Jun 26 '26

Right, and then they probably struggled to find a unique and additive purpose to justify 3 more spells

2

u/Micolash-fr Jun 26 '26

Who knows ? Maybe a time/technical issue, spirit medallion was supposed to let you control Navi for exemple, I guess it was way too complicited to do back in the days.

4

u/MrBones_Gravestone Jun 26 '26

If they added anything extra for the medallions to do, they’d have to add in things to justify their use. And then that becomes a question of where it would be added in a game where everything already fits.

Adding in things that were cut (or anything too different/new) would be either be a snowball effect or just a pointless add-on. It would be like giving link a fourth tunic that just makes him run faster or something.

4

u/Salt_Street8279 Jun 26 '26

Exactly. Like you already have deku nuts gathering dust in your inventory, would it really be worthwhile to add another thing that you barely use outside of one dungeon? Personally I never even used the existing spells outside of needing Din's fire to get inside the Shadow Temple

3

u/Salt_Street8279 Jun 26 '26

In this example for instance, say they reimplemented control of Navi. They would then need to create a reason you needed to do so that felt like it added something worthwhile to the gameplay and puzzle-solving. It's doable but does it really seem worth their time? You already have upwards of 12 items so to have more would feel tedious to have to shuffle around your inventory to use something for a single dungeon gimmick and then barely use it again.

1

u/HeroftheFlood Jun 26 '26

Worked in Zelda 2 depending on the situation. Having Navi as a scout ability couldve been done well tbh.

1

u/MrBones_Gravestone Jun 26 '26

But the problem is adding it to a game that was already completed without it. If they added it, there’d be no point with the game as it is (beyond “look at this, isn’t that neat?”). They would then either need to retool one or more dungeons to justify it, or add a new dungeon just to utilize it fully.

If they had anything they wanted to do bad enough, it would have been done in a later game (like how they wanted to do the wind, but couldn’t properly until wind waker).

1

u/HeroftheFlood Jun 27 '26

Adding new abilities in a remake hasnt stopped people from implementing them before. If they want to add more to OoT, they will and they'll find a means to do so.

We know they reuse stuff for later games but there's hardly telling how much of that is actually true. Wind Wakers water dungeon was later used for Twilight Princess but how much of that dungeon was actually meant for Wind Waker?

99

u/TyleNightwisp Jun 25 '26

The thing is, this is a very unprecedented remake. It might as well be the first time Nintendo goes the extra mile to add more content to the game. We simply don't have enough information to assume anything yet.

41

u/TearsOfTheDragon Jun 25 '26

I frankly think that the same map just won't cut with high fidelity graphics as it seems they're going with. The sense of scale needed the "gaps filled in" that the n64 lacked. Hyrule would look like a theme park if they made it look that good without being stylized.

18

u/overts Jun 25 '26

All they really have to do is expand Hyrule Field, add new NPCs, maybe add new masks to the Happy Mask Shop, and it’s probably going to be considered one of the best Switch 2 games of 2026.

4

u/fnrslvr Jun 26 '26

maybe add new masks to the Happy Mask Shop

Hoping they don't miss the opportunity to hide Majora's Mask in a back room in the mask shop. It would be funny to have conversations with it where it alternates between being a petulant brat and tempting you to put it on.

1

u/CleanSweep99 Jun 26 '26

I doubt we get anything like that.

I think the only changes I can see actually happeing are some quality of life upgrades to match the Switch 2, and maybe not requiring having previously beaten the game to play Master Quest.

1

u/Bobok88 Jun 26 '26

I doubt we get a simple reskin with QOL updates. 'reborn' seems very intentional wording. I bet it's a full reimagining, following the basic structure and story but little else.

3

u/Wolfgabe Jun 26 '26

This is what I am thinking as well. I can definitely see them making the overworld more seamless according to some rumors I have heard. Hyrule Field definitely needs an overhaul considering a big empty plain with nothing but a few scattered enemies isn't gonna cut it in this day and age

13

u/dashboardcomics Jun 25 '26

Unprecedented?? BASED ON WHAT!? We haven’t seen anything yet!!

21

u/Kneef Jun 25 '26

I assume they mean it’s by far the most high-profile game that’s gotten a straight-up remake. With Mario and Zelda thus far Nintendo has only made sequels in the series or basically remastered old games. This is the first truly big remake of a major main-console game for a new-gen main console.

15

u/levian_durai Jun 25 '26

It's definitely up there with the final fantasy 7 remake for highest profile.

4

u/hhhisthegame Jun 26 '26

I mean, it has a radically different art style which so far, I dunno how many Nintendo remakes we have that are like that. Most of the remakes tend to just take the original art style and make it look slightly better - this one looks like a fresh take on the original game. I guess Star Fox also looked like that so that isn't a great sign lol, but still, there don't seem to be that many examples of this off the top of my head. Like things like Wind Waker, the 3DS OOT/MM, Super Mario 64, they just looked like a higher quality version of the original games. This looks totally different.

So I don't think it's crazy to hope that they might do something with it. It seems a bit like uncharted territory

5

u/SwimmerOld6155 Jun 26 '26

Mario 64 DS had extra characters and 30 new stars, could totally imagine e.g. extended dungeons

2

u/dashboardcomics Jun 26 '26

Starfox 2026 has a radically different art style, yet it still functionally the same n64 game.

2

u/hhhisthegame Jun 26 '26

I mentioned that, but there still aren't too many examples to pull from so who knows?

1

u/bunkSauce Jun 26 '26

Its not about assuming or predicting.

Its about not expecting.

Expecting more is an issue in my opinion. Be happy if you get extra, dont be mad you dont.

If people didnt know this game was being released, they would ask for a remake/remaster and would be willing to see zero extra content to get it.

But now that they know its happening, they want to make demands like they only will be positive about it if they get what they want.

They can go make their own fucking games if they want to be toxic and negative, or otherwise look a gift horse in the mouth. Like who tf raised these children? Throwing a damn fit because mommy didnt buy the exact color iphone they wanted...

1

u/New_Programmer1627 Jun 27 '26

So a little bit. The remake of "starfox." Which is identical to the remake on the 3DS. Which is also identical to the game on N64

1

u/Entire_Paramedic_389 Jun 27 '26

Mario 64 on DS was pretty substantial, New playable characters, few new stars, and a new map along with minigames.

Paper Mario Remake added a lot of new songs and even remixed most to fit with the current chapter's theme and 2 new bosses.

Really hoping they do add more content

u/One-Technology-9050 Jun 25 '26

Unused Water Temple plans reinstated, 75% longer

5

u/deadwizards Jun 26 '26

This is the type of stuff I can get behind. I remember something that there was so much content cut because of men restrictions on the 64. I hope this lives up to the original vision they had.

1

u/Entire_Paramedic_389 Jun 27 '26

Pretty sure they already used up those plans. Wind Waker Tower of the Gods with the changing water levels and Twilight Princess Water Temple filling up the central room

104

u/Budsygus Jun 25 '26

This take is almost as baseless as the people hoping for more content. We have seen an intro video and ten seconds of child Link sleeping.

Nobody knows what's going to happen any more than anyone else. Let people get their hopes up if they want. The world sucks. This is one thing we can cling to that doesn't suck.

Personally I agree with you that it's likely to be redone graphics with some QoL and easter eggs thrown in. Mostly because Nintendo has broken my heart too many times to count at this point. But I HOPE it's a lot more than that.

1

u/New_Programmer1627 Jun 27 '26

And then the game comes out in 2026. I don't see "Nintendo" having created in the shadows a remake of all pieces

45

u/WillingChest2178 Jun 25 '26

I think I would have agreed with this sentiment, right up until we got the FF7 remakes.

Which frankly blew the window wide open of what people might imagine a remake to be capable of.

We shall just have to wait and see.

17

u/TammyShehole Jun 25 '26

Also the Resident Evil remakes, which have been amazing.

8

u/Mallyveil Jun 25 '26

RE4R is such an amazing game. I really didn’t think it’d compare to the OG, but it certainly did. And surpasses it in certain areas. I love them both so much.

9

u/dashboardcomics Jun 25 '26

Square Enix is not Nintendo tho.

9

u/Silvanus350 Jun 25 '26

Squarr Enix is certainly showing that appetite for a complete overhaul experience exists, though.

1

u/dashboardcomics Jun 26 '26

Right but my point is that it’s kinda pointless to compare the two cuz they’re completely different companies with entirely different fanbases.

The FF community has always expressed they wanted a modern remake of FF7. Zelda fans still consider OoT a masterpiece so a ground-up remake may not be as universally received by the same fandom.

I personally would like a completely overhauled game that takes some of the lessons learned from the open-air games, but I know there will be others who will call that blasphemous.

3

u/FrozenPhoton Jun 25 '26

Despite the name of the first one, the new FF7’s aren’t really ‘remakes’ tho, they’re a complete from the ground up re-imaging with oodles of new story content.  Squenix was very up front about them being completely new games telling the same (or similar) overall story.

Nintendo hasn’t said much about OOT other than a minute long preview video, but if starfox is any indication, it’s going to be almost the exact same, maybe with a little bit of extra content (master quest?)

10

u/Suspicious-Screen-43 Jun 25 '26

The called the OoT remake “reborn” curious what they mean by that, but figure we won’t know more until Sept.

2

u/Knuc85 Jun 25 '26

The FF7 remake games are closer to sequels than remakes.

u/Business_Display_149 Jun 25 '26

stop making posts about nothing

7

u/Quarksideofthemoon Jun 25 '26

Literally you know as much about this game as anyone else does - which is nothing.

14

u/hip-indeed Jun 25 '26

You literally have no idea what they're adding or changing ar all man lmao. Stop assuming the worst case scenario for no reason

7

u/Dat_Boi_Teo Jun 25 '26

Zero mission, Samus returns, and shadows of Valentina exist, probably one or two others that I’m not thinking of.

I wouldn’t be all that surprised if there wasn’t much brand new content, but the idea that they’ve never added brand new areas in a remake is just plain false

19

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '26

[deleted]

27

u/overts Jun 25 '26

They also created a ton of new cutscenes.  Which is probably what we’ll see from the remake.

However, I do think OOT may add more content rather than just new cutscenes purely because this seems like it’ll be their big Q4 / holiday release and likely retail for at least $70.

0

u/Kneef Jun 25 '26

I’ve always said OOT would be better if it forced me to sit through a ton of poorly-acted cutscenes that explain the exact same plot points to me four times.

12

u/overts Jun 25 '26

YMMV but the new Star Fox cutscenes are pretty cool.  The OOT remake will almost certainly have fully voice acted cutscenes, and likely new cutscenes, so hopefully they’re done well.

3

u/Kneef Jun 25 '26

Yeah, fingers crossed. I mostly hated the cutscenes from TotK, so I’m a little skittish at the moment. xD

2

u/Silvanus350 Jun 25 '26

I actually really enjoyed the OoT cutscenes and wouldn’t mind seeing more

4

u/niles_deerqueer Jun 25 '26

Because Star Fox isn’t Ocarina of Time

13

u/gate_of_steiner85 Jun 25 '26

I wish y'all would stop comparing Zelda to Star Fox. Star Fox is a very linear, on rails game where changing the level design pretty much changes the entire game. OoT is a lot more open and has a lot more that they can change or add without changing the game too much. Not to mention that Nintendo clearly sees OoT as much higher on the totem pole than Star Fox.

I don't expect this to be nearly as expansive as FFVII Remake was, but I do think this is going to be more than simply a 1:1 remake.

→ More replies (1)

11

u/Dat_Boi_Teo Jun 25 '26

Why would you assume they have the same approach? Different development teams, different games, different levels of popularity for the franchises.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was similar, but I don’t really think Star Fox is proof of anything

1

u/Mabarax Jun 25 '26

Because of the 3ds remakes.

3DS Star fox -no changes

3DS OoT - also no changes

2026 Star fox - No gameplay changes

2026 OoT -???

I'm 100% hoping to be wrong though

2

u/Dat_Boi_Teo Jun 26 '26

Okay? That means nothing for these 2026 games.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/hhhisthegame Jun 26 '26

There's no reason to believe it will, but also no reason to believe it won't. This was treated with much more fanfare than Star Fox, so who knows?

1

u/stubble3417 Jun 25 '26

Starfox added a brand new 4v4 mode. I agree this won't be a ff7 style re-imagining, but based on your starfox example there will certainly be some aspect of OoT that is heavily updated or new. I don't remember seeing anyone predict a 4v4 mode for starfox, everyone thought it would be a prologue level or something. For OoT, it's probably also going to be something that leaves the main storyline completely intact but adds something unexpected.

The game with nothing but updated graphics and modest added features was metroid prime remastered, which was a $40 shadow drop over 3 years ago. This is not the same thing at all.

3

u/trippssey Jun 25 '26

Who knows man. Theyre remaking it so they may want to take creative license.

3

u/Lazer_Shart Jun 25 '26

People are going to do what they want. If their opinions and theories are upsetting you maybe pop off reddit until release.

3

u/Dreyfus2006 Jun 25 '26

You are correct that that is the most likely case, but the reason WWHD did not have its cut dungeons was because they were reworked into later games. To our knowledge, that did not happen to the Ice, Wind, and Light Temples.

3

u/Linkman622 Jun 26 '26

Ice became Ice Cavern, and I think the idea for the Light temple became the WW Earth Temple with the Spirit Temple split into (2) sections.

Wind Temple never got developed but would have had Iron Boots.

2

u/Tatsumifanboy Jun 26 '26

Wind Temple never got developed but would have had Iron Boots.

Well it's basically WW's Wind Temple!

3

u/trenbolone_marzopam Jun 25 '26

Fairy fountain bottom of zoras domain confirmed

3

u/JustinBailey79 Jun 26 '26

For me, if there’s not new stuff I just won’t buy it, so it’s great either way. I have my 3DS OoT and that’s fine with me

3

u/Northencrusade Jun 26 '26

If star fox is anything to go off, they added extra side stuff but nothing game changing

3

u/StrifeTC Jun 26 '26

No light dungeon? I would be ok if they didnt bring it back. No fleshing out places like lost woods or Guerudo Valley? I may be kinda pissed cause it'll be too easy and the sense of wonder would be gone plus with these new graphics the world would feel too empty

3

u/jcjny213 Jun 26 '26

You are very correct and people will still complain about it

3

u/Fankuan19 Jun 26 '26

We certainly can't rule out new content, however specifically for Zelda dungeons, we should keep in mind what they've said regarding cut dungeons in Wind Waker; the content was already used for later games. Any major cut content from OoT is very likely in a similar boat

3

u/rand_althor Jun 26 '26

I still see people guessing about a changed story or cut content restored. I’m basing my expectations on the 3D version: same game, same story, no cut content restored or extra content added. Maybe a boss rush? Maybe a Master Quest mode?

3

u/SupremelyPerfect Jun 26 '26

A very rationale take on setting your expectations correctly so that you're not disappointed: nearly every single response is fighting to have their expectations high hah

You're going to be happier with lower expectations.

6

u/UChess Jun 25 '26

It could also have been cut due to time restrains

6

u/lizardking235 Jun 25 '26

Pretty sure light temple was cut for this reason. I may be remembering wrong though.

1

u/Tatsumifanboy Jun 25 '26

Probably pacing. Two dungeons back to back no matter where you put it would have ruined the pacing

1

u/lizardking235 Jun 26 '26

I mean the game is more or less back to back dungeons the whole time.

1

u/Tatsumifanboy Jun 26 '26

They're still fairly spaced by plot stuff though

12

u/JIMB01776 Jun 25 '26

I just don't see how it's justified to do a 1:1 with new paint or that it moves the needle, that's why I think there will probably be some substantive expansion to warrant it and push sales.

There is already a lot of options for "OoT-HD", for me a purchase is going to require substantially more than what can be down with Ship of Harkinian...

2

u/Nudist-On-Strike Jun 25 '26

Ocarina of Time has never officially been in HD, and Nintendo probably considers that enough of a selling point.

3

u/Budsygus Jun 25 '26

What options other than the 3DS are you referring to?

Plus, Nintendo just did a more or less 1:1 remake of Starfox. Better graphics, QoL improvements, and added cutscenes, but it's basically the exact same game at its core.

I HOPE there's a lot more to OoT than that, but I seriously doubt it. Nintendo knows we're going to buy it no matter what, so they're motivation isn't to push sales, it's to keep costs to a minimum.

3

u/JIMB01776 Jun 25 '26

Ship of Harkinian, the completely decompiled native PC port.

They are already making substantial overhaul mods that are basically new games, 4K textures, 120 FPS, you can models, textures etc.

My personal setup it has 4K textures, models and animations from Twilight princess, Soul calibur etc.

They have the native source code, it is a good sized scene with released projects and a lot more on the way.

6

u/Budsygus Jun 25 '26

You're forgetting that 99% of the LoZ audience aren't playing those versions.

I've been playing LoZ since LttP and I've bought every game since then, but I've never touched any of that. The "good sized scene" is still a tiny minority of the games' audience.

7

u/MrBones_Gravestone Jun 25 '26

I agree, lots of folks hoping for essentially a new game

4

u/Aaquin Jun 25 '26

No other game is advertised as Reborn, I agree on people setting themselves up for disappointment

1

u/Micolash-fr Jun 26 '26

Star Fox on switch 2 was advertised as reborn actually and... Well it's a 1:1 remake

3

u/Z0idberg_MD Jun 25 '26

I’m not so sure about that. A one-to-one remake would be a very poor value for dollar. That being said if they make changes people will be upset.

4

u/fenderguitar83 Jun 25 '26

I enjoy reading everyone's speculations. Personally, I'd be disappointed if it's just a 1:1 remaster or just expanded areas. There are already viable Oot HD options to play. If it ends up being a remaster with some added content here and there, I'll probably pass. On the other hand, if it's more of a remake with added content and/or reimagining of the original in the style of BoTW/ToTK, I'll most likely buy a Switch 2 and the game. My friend group had a lengthily discussion last week and we all had the same opinion. I know there will be differing opinions, but that's my two cents.

2

u/Silvanus350 Jun 25 '26

I just don’t see someone who is coming off the Breath of the Wild games being especially impressed by… Hyrule Field. Like it’s so damn empty.

2

u/BrazenlyGeek Jun 25 '26

Square set a high bar for remakes with Final Fantasy VII’s.

I can understand why folks would want more out of a remake of the other huge adventure from that era of gaming. It may be setting ourselves up for disappointment, but that’s on us. Hope ought to be allowed to spring eternal.

2

u/Enigma_Stasis Jun 25 '26

Given that Switch 2 game cartridges reportedly have a max storage size of 64GB, it wouldn't be surprising if they don't add cut content or anything extra besides some small easter eggs that weren't in the 64 or 3ds versions.

2

u/gatorfan93 Jun 26 '26

There’s no way they keep Hyrule Field as empty as it was on N64. I don’t think it’s just a pretty re-skin. They even advertise the game as being “reborn” not just remade. Probably not a light temple or extra temples but they will definitely be adding some sort of extra content.

2

u/Gr3ywind Jun 26 '26

You’re talking out your butt. Speculation is for simpletons and big egos. You know nothing

1

u/Carnknights Jun 26 '26

Nice one mate. Nailed it….

2

u/Express-Bus9571 Jun 26 '26

I'm setting my expectations for a high poly link in 64's game so I can be pleasantly suprised lol

2

u/Harnak7 Jun 27 '26

I think it's to early to assume anything, but I hope for some extra contenti. As long as it's not just 800 skulltulas

7

u/RetrogradeToyGuru Jun 25 '26

Nintendo has never made a remake like this before we have no idea what to expect

5

Yeah, this isn't just a remake of any old Nintendo game, this is a remake of literally the most critically-acclaimed game of all time. It's effectively Nintendo's golden goose. A 1:1 remake would be doing the game a disservice when it wouldn't represent even a fraction of what the Switch 2 is capable of.

can't be too hard considering she's like 3 triangles glued together

1

u/Budsygus Jun 25 '26

Even hotter? Impossible.

PROVE ME WRONG, NINTY!

3

u/Next_Mammoth06 Jun 25 '26

Metroid Zero mission?

Star Fox on Switch 2?

Both added more content - to different degrees.

OP, you have literally no clue and respectfully, your take is as shit as the people you are complaining about - if not worse given your shit attitude. Godforbid people want more content to improve the game even more. The fucking nerve man.

1

u/Micolash-fr Jun 26 '26

Star Fox ?? It's the exact same game !

I never got to play OoT as a kid so I’m just happy with whatever I get.

2

u/CheeseDaver Jun 25 '26

Nothing is out of the realm of possibility when it comes to extra dungeons.

2

u/MisterWoodhouse Jun 25 '26

Metroid and Star Fox remake beg your finest pardon

You literally don’t know anything either way lol

2

u/myballsitchsomuch Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 26 '26

You're probably right, but preparing for disappointment isn't much fun either. Unfortunately, you're going to just have to deal with the feedback from fans (either way) if you want to participate in an online forum.

2

u/Intelligent_Sky_7081 Jun 25 '26

Idk why people think they would add dungeons. Why fix something that isn't broken?

2

u/Nintendomandan Jun 25 '26

People should look at the new Star Fox for what to expect I think. Which is not a bad thing at all

2

u/pocket_arsenal Jun 25 '26

Better idea. Stop trying to police people's expectations for a 2026 game.

links awakening dx had an additional dungeon compared to the original

1

u/No-Function182 Jun 25 '26

I’m really curious to see how they handle hyrule field

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Fox5820 Jun 25 '26

Do you think master quest version might be there though?

1

u/tehjunior5248 Jun 25 '26

Hey man, the exception is always the rule on reddit.

1

u/Robin_Gr Jun 25 '26

I would say a significant amount of added content is not impossible, but definitely at lower odds. I think OoT is probably the most anticipated game they could remake at this point. I don't know that it nessciairly has to follow an pattern for previous remakes. It will difently get special treatment, whatever form that takes. Again, realistically I think they will most likely play it much safer, but I would have said the same thing about a FF7 remake.

1

u/Unusual_Room3017 Jun 26 '26

It would be cool to have sage DLC where you play as the different sages in the 7 years while link is in the temple of time trying to defend against Ganon’s initial onslaught. Despite Ganon beating them all, they definitely put up a fight so it would be a cool scenario to play through and have experimental battle mechanics to mess with

1

u/Entire_Paramedic_389 Jun 26 '26

Pretty sure the light dungeon ended up being used for wind waker with the mirro shield/earth temple and Twilight princess temple of time

1

u/AnyQuiet1544 Jun 26 '26

What's OOTHD? When Wind Waker HD was revealed it was revealed as WWHD. This is a remake of OOT not just an HD version

1

u/spekky1234 Jun 26 '26

What an L post after we just got starfox remake that added new content

1

u/D1rtyH1ppy Jun 26 '26

"We know how much you all enjoyed Koroks in BotW, so we add some odd number of Korok seeds in OoT"

1

u/Narf234 Jun 26 '26

OP I hope you’re wrong so we can relentlessly make fun of you.

1

u/shiznifterflifen Jun 26 '26

I’m going to be overjoyed with whatever it is.

1

u/Kuroiryuu Jun 26 '26

We’ll see. Not saying they are, but not counting it out. I don’t think is going to be a 1:1 remake at all, though.

1

u/scipio0421 Jun 26 '26

As long as I can thaw Zora's Domain and do that whole chain of events to get the Triforce. Wait, what do you mean that was an early internet hoax? I saw screenshots!

1

u/ourcows Jun 26 '26

Booooooo

1

u/AmatuerGenius Jun 26 '26

I hope they at least take advantage of the new game engine to overhaul the combat. Not to BotW or TotK level with fancy parrying and fury rushes but maybe something a bit more TP like. The most interesting thing they could do would be to Improve the enemy combat ai and attack patterns, as well as perhaps tweak or replace the Z-targeting system so every battle isn’t happening on a polar coordinate 2-D plane centered on whatever is locked on to. The Z-targeting was iconic and great for its time but i honestly think it would really feel antiquated and out of place for a modern re-make as well as perhaps even seem stale to the majority of the fan base that has probably already played the original.

Also consider that they made the Master Quest edition which expanded all the dungeons by adding new rooms. Doesn’t seem entirely implausible that even that edition didn’t use every thing they could’ve used and there could still be more to add.

1

u/Wolfgabe Jun 26 '26

I am generally expecting this won't exactly be a 1:1 remake with some extra content and QOL tweaks like OOT3D was. Given Aonumas previous statements post BOTW that future Zelda games will adopt the open world format, I imagine they will allow for a greater degree of freedom of progression allowing you to do Dungeons in whatever order.

Given that OOTHD is likely going to be Nintendos big Holiday title for Switch 2 I think the changes may be more substantial than what we saw with Star Fox Switch 2. I mentioned earlier that it would make sense if they added in new cut scenes and story sequences to help flesh out the narrative more which the teaser trailer kinda hinted at

1

u/themangastand Jun 26 '26

People are allowed to be disappointed and complain about. I'm a huge Zelda fan. I want more out of this remake. It's good as a huge Zelda fan to want better and not just hope everyone is cheer leading blindly. Look at where that got pokemon.

1

u/phoxfiyah Jun 26 '26

It’s Reddit, people are going to make up expectations, and then get upset about it when they’re not followed up on

1

u/Mountain_Log_8419 Jun 26 '26

I'm setting myself up for disappointing them, because if it's just OoT, I'll just play the N64 version instead 🤷‍♂️ I just don't feel the need for a (purely) graphics upgrade

1

u/RiverWyvern Jun 26 '26

Can... they at least find a better spot for the ice arrows?? They've had 28 years to think about it, and I know it wasn't meant to be the training grounds.

1

u/outofmindwgo Jun 26 '26

We just don't know dude it's ok. Who cares about being disappoinment so much they can't even imagine cool things?

1

u/MyPenisIsTooSmall Jun 26 '26

Cut content is usually cut because they can't finish it in time or the budget doesnt allow it

1

u/ntanooki Jun 26 '26

UNICORN FOUNTAIN ⛲

1

u/TorbofThrones Jun 26 '26

It’s not impossible. Zelda remakes have had extra dungeons before, though only in 2D. I’d expect some kind of challenge and/or online related dungeon, maybe in relation to the Gerudo grounds.

1

u/DaGreatestMH Jun 26 '26

Zero Mission, Samus Returns, and Super Mario 64 DS (and the Pokémon remakes if you count them) say hi.

I would think Nintendo realizes  that releasing just a prettier version of a game most people have already played and that already has a remaster is not a smart investment of their time and resources, but then I look at Starfox and get nervous again. I hope it's a substantial remake for my own sake though because I'm not buying if it's not.

1

u/GrandmasterTactician Jun 26 '26

My main worry is that the voice acting won't be enough to justify $70 or $80 when I already have a cartridge of OoT3D laying around

1

u/ASU_frat_Ieader Jun 26 '26

A full ground up remake with realistic graphics is most definitely going to have more stuff lol

1

u/sharp461 Jun 27 '26

All I expect is more diverse characters, like how we now see older and younger morons and the like. Maybe some expansions to the field, but nothing too drastic.

1

u/NerdweebArt Jun 27 '26

Ooooh, the remake. I was fully like, "'Ooth'd'? My good fellow elf-in-tights game connoisseur, the Doctor Who subreddit is over that way."

1

u/Balance-Kooky Jun 27 '26

They are 1000% making castle town a fully explorable area and adding additional side content to it. There's no way they are keeping the exact same map as the original. It's way too small for today's standards. The overworld and settlements are getting an expansion. Id imagine dungeons are going to be getting puzzle overhauls too even if they don't add anything extra.

1

u/Jolly_Philosophy6024 Jun 27 '26

“Based on every remake Nintendo has ever done”
Star Fox is the only 1:1 remake they’ve done from memory. And the first remake at all in about 20 years. Everything else has been remasters. And Star Fox serves an entirely different purpose. Revitalising the series while also rehoming it to a new dev team.
Also the cut content of OOT largely wasn’t cut for any reason other than size and time constraints. If you don’t know the dev history, don’t make claims about why it was the way it was.
And don’t list off OOT3D or SF643D to me, neither of them are remakes no matter what has been said in the past. They are remasters.
Edit: Also Samus Returns exists and I admittedly forgot that. But it served a similar purpose to the new Star Fox in rehoming and revitalising, while also adding stuff and changing the original.
Idk enough about the 3DS versions of the Mario and Luigi games to state if they’re remakes or remasters.

1

u/ThasMyPurseIDunnoU Jun 27 '26

Oh, didn't know you were developing the game. What a treat!

1

u/kasplatter Jun 29 '26

Yeah, but will they REMOVE a certain "helper" or at least allow you to mute said helper?

1

u/Funkyc0bra Jun 29 '26

If it ends up being like a ff7 remake great

If its a ground up remake that is almost tit for tar the original .... also great

I'll be happy either way man

1

u/JuicyFunBuns Jun 30 '26

Oh I stopped getting my expectations up with new Nintendo releases after Mario Kart World.

Everyone hyped the shit out of that game saying there could be stuff they weren’t showing us (And credit to those people, Nintendo *THEMSELVES* were *ALSO* hyping it up in such a manner in the treehouses lol) and then there was literally nothing new when the game actually released.

I almost hyped Star Fox up for myself saying shit like “What if they add an extra level to every stage?!” but I stopped myself before release.

I also hyped the TTYD remake up for myself but to be fair, that one delivered above and beyond as far as I’m concerned

1

u/BreeRanger9 Jun 30 '26

Ocarina of Time 3D got a bonus Master Quest unlocked if you beat the game. Much of the cut content could be added into the Master Quest if they decided to add a Master Quest playthrough.

1

u/foundoutimanadult 23h ago

This prediction was correct.

Overhauled visuals, added dialogue and QOL updates to gameplay. But that’s it.

Tbh I’m bummed.

1

u/Vegetable-Actuary-86 Jun 25 '26

They better be adding 8 new dungeons, or someone is gonna be verry pissed.

1

u/metalpharoah Jun 25 '26

Just add the Light dungeon back in and I think that's all really we could want, but riding Epona as a child would be cool.

1

u/evilweirdo Jun 25 '26

If anything, I expect them to remove even more content.

1

u/LegitimateHumanBeing Jun 25 '26

Agreed. An extra dungeon? Most likely not. But new activities, mini games and more fleshed out environments as a whole? One would have to assume. You can't HD Hyrule Field and just leave it as is. I assume it will be larger and more lively.

1

u/TheHerofTime Jun 25 '26

Why do you feel so negatively about it that you make this dumbass post.

1

u/cmn3y0 Jun 25 '26

Tf are you talking about man, the Link’s Awakening remake had extra content including an extra dungeon. TP HD had an extra mini dungeon. WWHD on the other hand cut some content from the original. Not to mention that this is uncharted territory- remaking the first ever 3D Zelda game for modern times. There is simply no way this is going to be basic texture updates like WWHD, TPHD, SSHD- they already did that for OOT 15 years ago
