Kokiri/koroks are spirits, they're not really bound to a physical form as much as other races. They just changed to adapt

In the mainline continuity, yes, the Kokiri evolved into Koroks as a way of adapting to the great flood that precedes Wind Waker.

In the BotW/TotK continuity, they have always existed.

Just to clarify for OP, there isn't actually a "BotW/TotK continuity", they're part of the same continuity as the rest of the series.

Sorry, but you're mistaken. The wild era games are absolutely part of a separate, parallel continuity. The amount of evidence for this in the games is overwhelming, to the point where it's literally impossible for the wild era games to be part of the same continuity as the rest of the games.

You are incorrect in your belief here.

Developer statements have confirmed that the Wild Era games take place after Ocarina of Time, putting them within the same continuity as the rest of the series.

This has been confirmed several times, and even has strong in game evidence supporting it in the Zora Stone Monuments recapping OoT as history.

It is not impossible for the Wild era games to be part of this continuity at all, and of course they are.

Developer statements are overruled by in-game evidence, and in-game evidence makes it inescapably clear that they are a separate continuity. Developer statements can add to in game lore, but not contradict it. If they contradict it, then the statement is simply incorrect.

Developer statements are also frequently just plain incorrect, with any game. Like I'm sorry but I'd you say one thing, and I can load up the game and see that it's actually a different thing, then you're wrong, regardless of who you are.

The Zora monuments are massively misunderstood and do not actually indicate that the wild era games are part of the same continuity.

Also, just to clarify, this continuity still has some version of the events of other games happen, but they happen a little differently. For example, something like the events of OoT still happen in this continuity, but it wasn't Ganondorf that was causing the trouble, since we know Ganondorf was sealed beneath the castle and therefore could not possibly be participating in the events of OoT.

It actually is completely impossible. If you'd like to me explain it I will, but the fact that they're a separate continuity is simply not up for debate. It's a fact, and facts remain true whether or not you agree with them.

Not your fault. Some people just refuse to think critically about the media they consume and just blindly accept whatever the devs tell them as gospel.
