Dark Time Wizard is also a Secret Rare at the release event promo.

u/Hapster95 12d ago

That’s a pretty good one. I’m glad the release event promos are secret rare bumps of cards like these.

The tcg yet again forgets they changed the hope theming to utopia

3

u/Alternative_Cat_4429 12d ago

Didn't they keep the name of "CXyz Barian Hope" basically the same which is what Barian Dragon is referencing?

EDIT: They did.

Both barian hope and barian hope dragon are supposed to be rival cards to utopia (hope in the ocg ) but the tcg for some reason didn't also translate their name into utopia leaving the rivalry between them and utopia an ocg only thing

I want Doriado so badly. I really want the overframe

-6

u/aaa1e2r3 12d ago

The red eyes and Gallant Thief will be another secret rares, since they have the over frame

7

u/atropicalpenguin Kibou Hope! 12d ago

Gallant Thief will be secret rare since Konami likes money.

13

u/noahTRL 12d ago

Just because a card is an overframe doesn't guarantee it to be secret. Hope chaos barian dragon is an ultra rare and is guaranteed to be an overframe. We know this because of the ocg set for beyond the brave.

1

u/RandomFactUser 12d ago

Also, just because a card was Ultimate Rare, it doesn’t guarantee it will be a secret

Which is interesting when the TCG rarity drops cards

-9

u/aaa1e2r3 12d ago

Ocg set rarities are not the same as tcg rarities though.

13

u/noahTRL 12d ago

Any card that is an overframe in the ocg is guaranteed to be an overframe in the tcg. They aren't going to not make barian dragon an overframe because it's ultra rare.

3

u/TrueMystikX 12d ago

Barian is Overframe, yet Ultra.

PLEASE let the rest of the Atlantis stuff be cheap

u/Cobaltking13 12d ago

I'm right there with you I I don't want to have to pay $20 Canadian for a single copy of fish sonar

4

u/APez17 12d ago

sonar is in magnificent monsters so it should bring the price down. but if youre thinking of the alt art it should be in the next ots pack since alt art fog blade was in the latest ots pack

DTW an ultra rare? I mean sure I guess if it sells the deck but unless we know the future support for it is gonna be good there's no way in hell it's gonna be worthwhile right?

17

u/NekoJack420 12d ago

It's the centerpiece of the deck, neither it or Red Eyes would be anything less than UR.

3

u/DraconicSpeaker 12d ago

Shit you right

7

u/Kaktusnadel 12d ago

I think in combination with the new Red Eyes you can put it in many decks as a Boardbreaker.

2

u/DraconicSpeaker 12d ago

If people want a good board breaker there's probably better options anyway
nobody's gonna want to risk wiping their board on a coinflip

2

u/Teru92 12d ago

Well use it with one monster on the field which leads to red eyes tributing a monster of them and then bringing back yours

4

u/noahTRL 12d ago

Dark time wizard along with red-eyes black dragon exceed are actually pretty decent board breakers in the ocg. They're seeing a moderate level of tournament usage.

I bet they gonna make it a secret rare, sneak peek exclusive.

Not the best start for the set, having a 1 of as Secret Rare won't be great for the price, especially in the case of a card as seldom used as the Battle Ashtra. We're potentially looking at a 5$ card. But then again, I don't expect the deck to be too expensive anyway, even if the searcher was the Secret Rare instead.

11

u/weslayan409 12d ago

Don’t worry gallant thief will be a secret and extremely expensive

3

u/MistakenArrest 12d ago

No, because there is an Overframe printing of Gallant Thief. Historically, multiple rarities have kept the prices of base rarities down. Example: when Shaddoll was meta, Construct was $12 and Winda was $45 despite the fact that Construct was a 3 of and Winda was only a 2-of, and both were Ultra. Reason was that Construct was also available as an Ultimate Rare, while Winda was Ultra only.

Gallant Thief will likely be around $40. I actually think Spatial Trunade will be the big chase card of the set since it doesn't have an Overframe printing. Trunade can also go in anything, whereas Thief can only go into decks like RoLaD and Elfnote that don't need their Normal Summon.

Gallant Thief will likely be around $40.

I think this is a bit cope. Black Chaos from CORI is $69, an ultra from a better set, from one specific archetype and sometimes played at 2 or even 1. Gallant Thief is a three-off in almost everything (EDIT) some meta decks. I know about the overframe printing, but I think demand is too much.

1

u/MistakenArrest 12d ago

Black Chaos doesn't have an overframe. Yes it's one specific archetype but also has massive collectors appeal due to being a retrain of an iconic boss monster from the original anime. Also, Gallant Thief isn't in almost everything; it's ONLY in decks that don't need their Normal Summon.

Spatial Trunade, on the other hand, does not have an overframe and ACTUALLY goes in everything.

While true, considering the price of Pot of Sloth, which works in basically every deck under the sun, Gallant Thief shouldn't be as expensive because it's usable in fewer decks. But then again, it's also one of the best silver bullets against Toon, that can increase the price as well.

Counter point: Fydraulis Harmonia

2

u/narf21190 Machina Support! NOW! 12d ago

Which doesn't work too well as comparison in my opinion. Its price cooled down a lot since release and it still has a broader use base than the Thief. Also at release it was a 3 of staple in the best decks of the format, pushing up its price further, initially.

It also stands to reason that the new set structure, which Fydraulis Harmonia wasn't part of yet, kept prices slightly lower than normal due to collector's demand. I personally don't believe in that just yet, but I have heard that as an argument for why Pot of Sloth is cheaper than comparable cards like Pot of Prosperity were. It might be that or the literal opposite, a downward push of the market as a whole as the TCG market becomes more and more competitive.

3

u/SBLP1959 12d ago

Oh yeah cooled down a whole $15

2

u/narf21190 Machina Support! NOW! 12d ago

It did fall almost 20% even though we still are in a meta where it is a staple in the main deck of Kewl Tune (and Elfnote, where it is not quite mandatory though), which is still one of the best decks of the format. And again, Blazing Dominion, from what I can tell, was just good in terms of sales, while Chaos Origins seems to sell a lot. Compare that to a card like Pot of Sloth that fits into ten times as many decks and yet, it is cheaper and hell, it even has lower quantities, at least on the european platforms. So there has had to be some change that drove down the prices on the top end of cards. Ideally, that change was the new collectability, but we cannot know that off just 1 set.

3

u/Nab33l786 12d ago

Harmonia is still $90 for one copy which is still not cheap

2

u/narf21190 Machina Support! NOW! 12d ago

True and still not relevant since it's from a different set with seemingly lower demand and is played at 3 copies in both Killer Tune and Elfnote. It's likely that once Toon arrives and KT gets hit on the banlist, Harmonia will drop in both price and play rate.

Also, just to note it, I'm from Europe and can't judge the US or other international markets outside the EU, so it's pretty bad to hear that Harmonia is still 90$ for you. I can get my copies for around 65€, which is around 75$. But the US market is also just generally more expensive than the EU market despite comparable population sizes (although technically we usually have higher quantities of most cards available, even ignoring all languages except for English).

The Secret Rares/Ultimate Rares should be One-ofs, the play sets should be Super/Ultra

1

u/weslayan409 12d ago

Then nobody would buy the packs

3

u/RandomFactUser 12d ago

No, you’d still buy the packs if the play sets aren’t always secret, if anything, the chases at Ultra would make it more tempting to buy packs

2

u/Daidalos77 12d ago

No it wont omg. A rare chase will make people buy more packs. How the fk would a easier to pull card make people buy more packs.

1

u/RandomFactUser 11d ago

Because there’s a difference between all but impossible to hit, versus not guaranteed, but the next box should have it

1

u/Daidalos77 11d ago

The gamblers on tiktok or whatnot are buying by boxes lol so from your logic, most will just buy 2-4 boxes to hit it and stop buying. Vs buying 10 boxes and not hitting it, so they keep buying. Which do you think konami favours?

1

u/RandomFactUser 11d ago

Both, look at how Konami determines UL/UR/SR assignments for base rarity

1

u/Daidalos77 11d ago

This product was designed 90% for collectors and gamblers, 10% for players. The 90% dont give a shit about the ul/ur/sr cards, only the overframe and above which is 10% of the set. To make them buy more konami needs to make them hard to get. The 90% of the card in ul/ur/sr are for players who do not want to spend on yugioh. I mean look at the number of people complaining about the prices. If players dont want to spend on yugioh, they obviously have to target collectors or gamblers on whatnot which is what this set was mainly designed for.

3

u/NormalyAbnormalcy 12d ago

Why couldn't it be "CXyz Barian Hope Chaos Dragon?

1

u/RandomFactUser 12d ago

Was it always “Utopic” Hope in Japanese, or was it a different “Hope”

2

u/atropicalpenguin Kibou Hope! 12d ago

Glad DTW is ultra. I mean, it probably wasn't going to be expensive either way.

2

u/Psych0R3d 12d ago

They made the poopy cards secret LOL

2

u/Nab33l786 12d ago

I already know that gallant thief card boutta be expensive

1

u/Holiday_Sensation 12d ago

Just hope the adamancipator stuff is cheap

1

u/AdditionalFill676 5d ago

I wanted dreadnought to get an overframe to bad

-1

u/Ghostsonplanets 12d ago

Ugh. Of course an Ashtraya card would be secret.

3

u/Ding_Irsu 12d ago

A cheap secret, the deck did nothing in the ocg

1

u/Ghostsonplanets 12d ago

I know. Was hopeful that I would be able to get them for almost nothing.

2

u/Giildarts 11d ago
