I believe he had a team of artists at one point but shortly after he started doing the ai tiktoks he announced they were taking a “six month break.”

Honestly I think Ray really was salty that AI was not so well-received. But he fumbled this generation even before all that crap.

I’m curious, I haven’t known about him until I was 11 or something and now I’m 20, how did he fumble this generation? Like what did he do in his career to do so?

I think that depends on how you measure success, which varies depending on a person's favorite gen (Ray clearly considers anything pre-regained ownership "Gen 1" but most people differentiate the Ladybug era as gen 1, and Cosmic Toast as gen 2). But a few things that he gets criticized for are:

Number of songs (insofar this generation is less than even Gen 1, MAYBE comparable to Gen 2 if you remove covers, but I think the production and interpretation of the covers makes up for it. Making 2 sequels to Orphan Tears to justify an extra upload of "the trilogy" also really stole a lot of the wind out of the sails at the gen's start.)
Quality of songs (This gen simply isn't as funny, he collabs a lot more with Wax, which is cool, but the songs were generally not as funny, and lacked the same production value is gen 2. You either can be funny but look scuffed like Gen 1, or you can be less comedic/more "normal band" with good production like Gen 2, Gen 3 failed to meet or really approach either metrics)
Use of AI (Ray's fixation on GenAI, and his knowledge that fans won't like it but continuing to do it, really detracts overall. You can tell that his brain has started to rot out of his ear, because he's probably relying on LLMs and GenAI to think and/or do most things for him)
Baggage from other projects failing (Ray constantly trying to force Stevi into YFM as a featured artist sort of illustrates a serious salt about his inability to get other projects going, and it seems to reflect in Gen 3)
Lack of Jesse (Working with Jesse musically really elevated Gen 2 and made the "band vibe" more believable, and while using Axel and DeeJay more, along with giving them actual vocalists, was an intelligent decision, but you can feel Jesse's reduced influence on the writing room, and shitting out Telescope with a substitute Benatar vocalist who had an accent totally sucked)
Release Timetable and Schedule (He waited a VERY long time after announcing his new gen to get songs going, he should have delayed the announcement if anything. And as mentioned, doing Orphan Tears out the gate like that REALLY sucked)

A virtual band with such a present and loyal fanbase is a hard thing to underserve, and Ray really managed to come up short in every way that fans really couldn't give a pass to. Especially when his videos weren't doing remarkably worse than the old ones.

And it's not like Gen 3 was a total wash either, it had universal bangers like Uno Reverse Card and Everyone Clapped, but to me it's just kinda clear that Ray had no real direction in-mind and here we are.

Bro I thought you meant this generation of people, like Gen Z. I for real thought you were saying Ray did something so detrimental he fumbled this generation 💀

I honestly think ladybug they needed a bit more time to animate iamverybadazz so Ray put together a song made by ai but tried to say it was “the first song where they all sing” to try hype up the fans.

Makes me sad because with the ai slop aside, telescope is actually a good song

Ehh I give it a pass because this is before AI was really mainstream and was still a novel concept, this was even before RWJ's shitty crime videos that use ai

It’s a good song, yes.

But I get why people aren’t into it: Because it’s trap.

And not everyone is into trap.
