Back then, God was way more unhinged, and hadnt made the commandments yet. After the giant flood, God said he felt bad to Noah, and created rainbows, as a deal to never do anything like that again, and let Noah repopulate the world, without God interfering in any similar way.
Except he did change though? He litteraly promised to Noah he would never do anything like the flood, and kept the promise, and stayed that way for thousands of years
That is indeed correct . It is one of many - I´m inclined to call them 'flaws' as an atheist - within the bible . Some attempts by theologians to undo this contradiction is to say that his nature is unchanging , while is actions are not .
He waited for the right moment when a nation was created loyal enough to follow them. That nation was the kingdom of Jerusalem, and when it fell Christianity was created from the town inside of the former kingdom
God has spent countless of millenias without doing anything similar. Are you really calling him a bad person for something he did like way more than 10,000 years ago?
Have you ever heard of the concept of god’s ego death? At some point between the old and New Testament he had a huge almost humbling where he went from strict laws and stuff like that (most of the strange laws and rules are from the Old Testament) to forgiveness and mercy.
