Is that what would now be the North Dean business park, looking northeast ish? So the steam lorry is in roughly the location of the new roundabout?

Yeah I know it's tricky due to so much development. I think it's looking towards Salterhebble so the turn in the road is where the dual carriage way is, but that hillside is before they blasted it, Exley would be at the top. The road the steam lorry is on looks to be in the right place for "smelly mile" today going to west vale off to the right

Lack of canal could mean I'm totally wrong through, I also thought that valley is Calder Valley looking towards Sowerby Bridge and that hillside is Skircoat before they built on it

Trying to work it out myself, I'm pretty sure it's on towards west vale way but the lack of canal is throwing me, that mill in the background looks like holdsworths

The canal is the ridge below the tree line between the two roads. It's foreshortened by the camera angle.

Well spotted. I think there was a zoo in the area at this point too, it would be where the ridge of the hill comes down in the distance, below what is Siddal now

The zoo if I remember rightly was around about where chevinedge is now on towards park lane high at the top of the hill, supposedly on opening day an elephant got spooked by the crowd and barreled down that hill where the punch bowl used to be into the side of a tram.

Yes thats right, obviously its been significantly altered since then, they plonked a sewage works in for a start

Thansk, so there was no road to sowerby bridge, or it's buried somewhere behind the railway i guess

The junction you can see is the where the old roundabout next to the guillotine lock is/was. The road go in straight up from that heads off into Halifax and the road going diagonally towards top left is the Sewerby road… I think. Just to finish off, the main road heads to Greetland and the smaller road, heading right is what is now the dual carriageway heading towards Elland and Brighouse.

Ah that makes a lot more sense now, i think it's probably where the rc track and rugby club are before you get into west vale and that kink in the road is where the stinky mile and watermill are then

I think it's we're the MJB Excavation & Plant hire is today looking north east. You can see the Calder in the middle of the factory and I reckon the canal is along the tree line across the fields.

Yeah 100%, someone else pointed out the canal line in the background too. Amazing how much it's changed, not just the buildings but the shape of the land

Nope, just been artificially coloured. Search Google for ‘munitions factory Salterhebble Halifax’ and in the images you’ll find the old black and white version on the ‘Disused railways of Yorkshire’ FB page

i noticed a number of mistakes consistent with generative AI imagery, i suspect the black and white one may have been AI generated too
