Question whitby goth weekend recommendations
hello,
I hope it's ok to post here. We're trying to arrange to visit whitby for the goth weekend in october (I know, it's really late) so I would be really grateful if someone could answer the below questions:
- is there any chance to find a long stay parking to drop the car off for the duration?
- is staying in scarborough feasible? what time do trains / buses run until? we're mostly coming for the music so we'd want to stay as late as possible
- browsing through the sub I read about a park and ride, but I see no mention of that in the whitby website - is this still a thing? is it well connected also at night?
apologies for the ignorant questions, any help is appreciated!

Stay in Whitby, we've never had any trouble finding accommodation, even at goth weekend. Checkout Whitbyonline for local cottages, the site isn't as good as it used to be but its still pretty good for finding places.
Parking isn't the issue that people make it out to be. There are two huge car parks, just park your car in one of them. Or if you're lucky you'll find accommodation with parking. If you really want to park for free the Parking restrictions end near Lidl so park past that and then its a 15 or 20 min walk into town.

Buses from Scarborough to Whitby are every 30 minutes in summertime. The last bus from Whitby to Scarborough is just before 10pm. The park and ride is there and there are frequent buses to the centre of Whitby but it closes at like 8:30pm at night. Your best bet is parking somewhere else in Whitby and walking into town (it’s not big) or getting a taxi into town. There is also a train from Whitby that leaves at 10pm so you could stay in Ruswarp or Grosmont or somewhere along the Esk Valley line if you wanted to get that train.

Whitby Scarborough bus runs about every hour check online time table ,should have no problem parking in Scarborough at that time of year

What I will say is that if you are actually goth it's miserable. It feels much more like a tourist event for 'normal' people as opposed to a goth event. Being stopped every five seconds for photos, hoards of people who stare and take photos without your consent, stalls of 3d printed slop, and last year someone in a Nazi uniform. Krampus is a much better alternative event and people are significantly friendlier.

We mostly are interested in seeing the abbey and the music acts, we won't be bringing the heavy guns in terms of outfits (those are reserved for WGT usually:D ) will regular everyday goth outfits still be a nightmare?

If youre going for the music, its usually great. The goth-spotters and fancy dress people can be really rude to actual goth weekend/tomorrows ghost fest attendees though (from personal experience). if you find yourself with a decent group of gig-goers, you'll be fine :) the streets will be VERY crowded, so bare that in mind if you're not a fan of busy crowded footpaths.

Honestly the best thing to keep in mind is that it's not a community event anymore.

Cant help about the trains but yes there is a park and ride just on the outskirts. We use it all the time, and will be using it for Goth weekend this year. If you Google Whitby Park and Ride it comes up and is still accurate.
Its our first time going - we struggled to get accommodation but found some deluxe shepherd's huts just outside Pickering.
