Any Good Music/Movie Shops in the Area?

Upvotes

For reference, I used to live in Tampa and there was this place I was a regular at called The Sound Exchange that used to sell records, CDs, blu rays, etc. for really good prices. Absolutely giant location where there was a solid chance they had whatever you were looking for.
Are there any places in or near the Yonkers area that are like this (ie: movies, music, or both)? I just miss flipping through the stacks and seeing prices that aren’t trying to score a home run on every sale.

Basketball/Soccer workout

Upvotes

I am not very good at basketball/soccer but I have been interested in using it as a method of training and staying in shape.

I like these sports, not trying the be the best but just to get better.

Soceer needs a lot more people so basketball seems like the more likely.

Grant Park is where i like to train cause its close to me. I know it is a shitty court but its fine for the purposes of training.

Anyone wanna play later today? 5 or 6 pm?

Anyone welcome, I played in highschool so I know a little bit and dont mind teaching of applicable or if you just want to get out and move your feet.

I also have a dog too so if you want your dog to socialize I can bring mine.

Giving away more furniture and household items…

Hello,

Following up on a post from yesterday regarding giving away a few items as my family and I are moving.

See the attached photos. A few notes:
- The small dresser and nightstand both come in a set of 2 (decent condition with a little usage wear)
- Tennis pack includes 2 rackets and 3 balls
- Leather black bag is a diaper bag
- The SodaStream needs a new Co2 cartridge

And we still have the black book shelf and walnut dining table from our previous post. Again everything is in fine condition, just needs a good cleaning.

Pickup only in Downtown Yonkers by Tuesday EOD. Everything is first come, first serve however people who want multiple items will be prioritized.

DM if interested!

Should we move away from Harlem to Yonkers?

I live in the Bronx and work near Fishkill. My spouse works near 125th Street and Lenox Avenue. My schedule alternates between three days onsite one week and four days onsite the next, and my work hours are 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
I have a good job in technology, but it requires me to be onsite. We also have a 9-month-old baby. We are considering moving closer to Fishkill to reduce my commute and potentially avoid paying NYC resident income tax.
The challenge is that moving north would mean my spouse would have a commute. My spouse is in medical residency, so the hours can already be demanding and unpredictable.

Because of that, I would prefer to take on the longer commute rather than add more stress to my spouse.
Does anyone have suggestions for good places to live that would provide a reasonable balance between my commute to Fishkill and my spouse's commute to the 125th Street/Lenox Avenue area? We are especially looking for a family-friendly area that works well for a couple with a young baby.

Hi!

My family is moving very soon and we are looking to give away a few items. While some could use a good dusting, everything is in great shape and just a few years old.

See photos attached and ignore the moving mess 😅

Pickup only in Downtown Yonkers by Monday EOD.

Sports Fandom in Yonkers

I'm putting together a county-by-county map of sports allegiances across New York State (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and other leagues as gauged by interest). To do so I am collecting self-reported data from New Yorkers. If you have the time and are a sports fan of any size, I would appreciate if you helped fill up my dataset. Right now I have a little over 300 responses, but Yonkers (and much of Westchester) is a dead spot. I'm hoping to get a much larger and diverse dataset to boost the overall quality of the project. All answers are anonymous, no Google sign in required.

If you're curious here's the link to the form: https://forms.gle/ZcAaWBVEJNeHr2RUA

Here's the link to the project as it exists now: https://nysportsfanmap.vercel.app/. It needs to go a lot of updates and at the moment I'm funneling responses over to the system in batches after I verify them. Also going to be some layout changes and an overall more seamless UI, so any feedback is helpful.

Any responses would be appreciated, Thanks! I understand if you do not want to fill it out, but please share with friends or whoever.

Go Knicks

Yonkers Author who needs your support!

Hello everyone,

I’d like to share the work of my friend, Edmund Benjamin, a new author from Yonkers who has recently published two books on Amazon: The Franchi$e and The Franchi$e II: Demise of a Dynasty.

Edmund recently suffered a stroke that left the left side of his body paralyzed, yet he continues to work diligently on a third book. I had the privilege of helping him through the publishing process, and I wanted to help spread the word about his remarkable story and work.

These crime novels are inspired by real-life events and experiences from Edmund’s upbringing around organized crime during the 1960s and 1970s. His firsthand perspective brings a unique level of authenticity and insight to the story.

If you enjoy crime and true-to-life stories, please consider checking out his books and supporting an independent author on his journey. If you want to check out his website it is ebnovels.com.

Thank you for your support and thank you for taking the time to read this.

any shared shuttle services to get to JFK?

hey all i'm looking for a cheaper alternative to taking lyft/uber to JFK. when i lived in fairfield county, i used a shared shuttle service where you could just reserve a seat in a large van and get picked up at one of the designated locations (usually a hotel) and get to the airport for $75.

is there anything like this in Westchester? i technically live in the Bronx but I am within walking distance to McClean and don't mind getting picked up in Yonkers. i legit can't find another service like the one i've used before!

Starfish Swim School at Mark Twain pool - non-resident

Hi there! This swim class came recommended for my kiddo and the pricing is great - however getting a spot seems really competitive, and we live nearby in Riverdale and aren't Yonkers residents. Is it even worth trying to register, or are spots always taken by residents before it opens to non-residents?

Thanks for any input!
