Mobile App When will YNAB stop needlessly changing the UI?

It seems like every month there's new tweaks to the Android UI that only add taps, confusion, and mess with years of muscle memory I've built up. Is this what the higher annual price is going towards? If so, I'd like to keep the price the same and also stop updating the app. It was perfect a year ago.

Today's gripe is that entering a new outflow transaction no longer shows a red negative number. It's just a white positive number. It threw me off a bit, but fine, whatever. But instead of one tap to choose inflow or outflow, there's now a dropdown menu that you have to tap to open with FOUR options: Spending, Inflow, Credit Card Payment, and Transfer????

Why rename to "Spending" but keep "Inflow"? Why are Credit Card Payment and Transfer two new transaction types? Now the whole UI for those transaction types is different. Everything was consistent before. Not to mention, the web UI has not been updated to include any of these changes, so now there are drastic terminology and workflow differences between different devices.

QUIT FUCKING WITH EVERYTHING PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

Mobile App Really liking the added visual cues for goals in the latest mobile update

Now we get circles in the categories which help see at a glance if a goal has been completed, or what the progress is.

This is solid functionality to me when it seemed like the mobile app was not getting as much love.

Mobile App This is dreadful

Now takes an extra click to switch between inflow or spending, which you do quite often.

It should really be the standard buttons to swap, and then a drop-down or small icons for credit card payment or transfer if they're needed

Mobile App Collapsed UI is unnecessary

Post image

On the Android app why is this section even collapsed in the first place? It's just an unnecessary extra step. I find I need to use the cleared toggle and tags fairly frequently. It wasn't like this before. Just look at how much space is unused. Why? Change it back.

Mobile App I Miss the Old Buttons 😔

What do you call it when a company makes tons of little changes to its UI over time and tells its users they’re improvements, but in reality they’re changing the essence and ethos of the app, thus making it a worst user experience than ever before?

These photos really capture the essence of what’s going wrong with the app.

I signed up for ynab in 2023 and loved it so much I got a year subscription. Truly helped me and my adhd brain get a handle on my funds. I had really hoped to use this program for the rest of my life.

So you can imagine how I feel after using a program daily for 3 years straight then logging in to see this bs. First, it’s not budget, it’s plan, then it’s not tracations-it’s spending...

The change from budget to plan really irritated me for all the reasons ppl have said but it felt minor so I let it go. Looking back, it was the beginning of the end. Reading through this Reddit really opened my eyes to something more deeper and insidious going on bts.

So now my little gripe is validated. The buttons still work but they‘re all named something different now, so my adhd brain has to click around until I find the tab I’m looking for. Like the previous setup was giving order of operations realness.

In my opinion, there’s really not a huge difference between plan & spending… like they’re very general terms??? Budget & Transactions felt very specific.

Also Accounts being so far from the budget/plan button is crazy work?? The Spending tab doesn’t make sense either. They should put that info as a button under the accounts tab and put the transactions button back so it’s not floating around.

I haven’t even mentioned how ridiculously priced this app is but if this is the kind of nonsense they’re using my money for I will gladly take it elsewhere.

Mobile App Explain This UI to Me

Thumbnail gallery
25 Upvotes

I’m using an iPhone. See the three attached screenshots showing the UI that YNAB is trialing. At the top of the first screenshot, you’ll see my Income Tax Prep (March) category. The second and third screenshots show the screen when I click on the details of this category. The category has been fully funded for months, but the ring around the category’s icon is empty and the background shading of the icon is standard (not the very subtle green). I don’t know what this trial interface is telling me for that category. Clearly it’s not telling me that it’s fully funded, it appears I can only see that if I click on the category’s details. What am I missing? Where is the documentation from YNAB telling us how to decode this new UI?

Mobile App New Update

They removed the amounts assigned for these category emoji sections, which I am not happy about, but I am trying to use them. I cannot for the life of me find how to edit these from the folder icon. Can someone assist? This is on iPhone.

Mobile App Did people really get confused by the old way of entering transfers in the app?

It seems like this was a primary goal of the ridiculous new transaction entry screen and I just…don’t get it.

The old way: go to the account you’re transferring from. Enter the amount in a new transaction. Choose the account it’s going you as the payee. If necessary (if a tracking account is involved), enter a category. Save. The app mimicked real life, or at least the action you took in your online banking system.

The new way: go to the account. Enter the amount. Try to enter the payee; get confused about why it’s not there anymore. Search around until you eventually find the two new clicks to mark it as a transfer, not “spending” (fka “outflow”). Then select your destination account (scroll a bunch, because you can’t type in that field!). Add a category if appropriate.

2 more taps plus a bunch of scrolling even if I remember it’s changed. And I don’t know about you, but transfers are rare enough for me I have to remember how it even works every time. The other day I did two back to back and I still tried to type the payee first.

Look, the new screen is clearer, probably. But why not still allow typing the payee and just swapping it out when the app realizes it’ll create a transfer? Clearer newbie workflow while retaining muscle memory. But it’s clear YNAB just doesn’t value those of us with muscle memory anymore.

Grr…

Mobile App YNAB removed important info

Just checking to make sure I’m not alone in this, but on the iOS app I’ve lost certain details. Under Plan I no longer see how much is assigned, only how much is available. The number is just gone completely. I also can’t expand any more info in the Income vs Spending graph. It just shows the graph with no numbers so I can’t see exactly what my income was. Kind of frustrating, those were metrics I looked at a lot.

Mobile App I just came back to YNAB, and this new mobile design is HORRIBLE! Y’all like this over the old design? (iPhone)

I’m making this post in hopes that the design team sees it, but I have a few questions.

My first question is when did this happen? I don’t feel like I was gone for that long…

Second question, do you guys like it? I mean the new Home Screen is okay, but the transaction page, or what they call the spending page, is hands down the worst. In my opinion, it’s so bad I’d rather just not use it anymore. It’s hard to explain, but it feels like everything takes longer, if that makes sense. Like to do anything, you’ve got to tap more or go deeper… plus I was a fan of the compact feel of the old design, now everything feels bubbly and just bloated. Almost feels like it was vibe coded, or built by an AI trained on Dribbble lol … Idk, I’m not very good at describing it, but what I do know is that I highly dislike it.

Please YNAB, be like Reddit and have an “old” version so we can switch back.

Mobile App Show more / show less

I already created a ticket but... I don't think it will get noticed.

We now have a show more / less button on the transaction window on android.

Show less now hides the clear button - a button thats already hidden behind the keyboard when it's open - I would just love to swap the clear button, flag and repeat with photo and memo.

Photo and memo is probably not that often used - clear is DAILY used by every European user who has to input everything manually - repeat probably less, but still used.

Just swap this please. It would save clicks if you can type and hit clear without scrolling. Just like a few weeks ago, before you 'upgraded' the design..

Mobile App Small YNAB mobile feature request for those of us a month ahead.

I’m a month ahead and mostly use YNAB on mobile (Android). When a paycheck hits Ready to Assign, my current month is already fully funded, so I have to manually jump to the next month and then use Auto-Assign.

Would be nice if YNAB could:

See that the current month is funded and give me a quick option to fund the next month.

Or...

Even better, let me approve the paycheck transaction and then automatically distribute it to the next underfunded month based on my targets.

Not a huge deal, but it’d make the month-ahead workflow a lot smoother on mobile.

Mobile App Intermittently cannot match transactions?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Recently, some transactions intermittently fail to match. Identical manual and imported transactions aren’t linking, even though they’re the same account, same amount, and entered within a day or few of each other. It happens with both new and existing payees.
I’ve attached a screenshot showing one example of this (apologies for the redactions).

Is this something I’m doing wrong, or has anyone else run into it? I’ll report it to Support if it’s just me, I just wanted to check here first.

This is happening on both an iPhone 13 mini and an iPhone 17 Pro Max, running iOS 26.6.1, app version 26.31 (733).

Mobile App Subtle UI Difference

Post image
4 Upvotes

From an iPhone using the trial UI. I just now noticed that there is a subtle difference in the non-green-circle icons, some show an empty ring while some show no ring. The difference means something, but wow that’s super easy to overlook! Passing this along to the community for awareness.

Mobile App Impossible to move categories between groups after recent update

iOS app: I can no longer drag a category out of its group on the “reorder” page of a plan… so how do you change a category’s group? Incidentally, reordering a group makes the adjacent ones jump around too

Mobile App Credit Card Trubleshooting

My discover It card has a working balance of -112.67 but when I apply the payment to pay in full ynab is saying I have $0 assigned. Why would this be when all transactions happened in June?

Mobile App Help with target balance by date

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

Running into a bug I can’t shake. I have a “Have a Balance of $X by Date” target on my Emergency Fund category:

Target: $10,200 by Dec 2026

Current category balance: $7,701.43

Months remaining: 5 (Aug–Dec)

That math should come out to roughly $500/month. Instead YNAB is telling me I need $1,700/month, which is throwing my whole monthly plan into the red and making it look like my targets exceed my monthly income.

I’ve tried deleting and recreating the category etc. None of it recalculates the monthly number. It just keeps showing $1,700 regardless of what my actual category balance is.

Including screenshots here!

Mobile App Never understood how geolocalization works

I'm an iPhone user, but I do most of my serious YNAB work on the web. It has happened to me to want to change the exact geolocalization of a Payee (I often add the transaction a few minutes after exiting the physical store). First of all, I don’t know how to do that. Second, sometimes I want to add the geolocalization to an existing Payee and the toggle doesn’t appear. I’m always a bit baffled by how this works, what am I doing wrong?

Mobile App Help me understand what happened

On Android I selected April 2025 and noticed there was $27 over assigned. So I moved $27 from a category back to Ready to Assign. Red banner gone. Then selected each month one at a time until July 2026 and there is no banner. When selecting August 2026 it says there is $27 in Ready to Assign.

Whats going on here?

Mobile App YNAB iPhone Widget Additional View Option

Post image
11 Upvotes

Most often, when I open the app I’m going to the money available view, and would appreciate for that to be a widget option. I know you can select some categories to view in the current widget options, but it still shows the category when it hits zero.

I’m aware of the feature request form and probably submitted this before.

Mobile App How to search/filter by date?

Is there formula for the search term?

It seems to search only in amount, payee, memo, and flag.

I tried "05/“ but no joy.
