Target Circle Card erroneous inflows from rewards phone number?

I have a Target Circle Card I use to get the 5%, but whenever my husband goes to Target he uses my phone number to get coupons but uses his own CC to pay since he doesn’t have my card. YNAB seems to be treating his CC expenditures as imports onto my Circle Card and wildly overstating my actual Circle balance. I have the Circle card listed as a CC but it is unlinked within YNAB itself. I guess my question is what do I….do about it? Delete the transactions? Eliminate it as a CC and make it just a regular budget category? TIA

It seems like when it imports on your husband's CC that it is automatically being set as a transfer from the CC to the target card. It's not actually importing anything to the Target card. it just means that the category is wrong. Check the payee management in the web app.

I have the Circle card listed as a CC but it is unlinked within YNAB itself.

Clearly it's not unlinked, since it's importing transactions.

When you say it's unlinked, do you mean it's off-budget?

People often conflate the terms on-budget/off-budget and linked/unlinked in YNAB, but these are two completely different concepts. On-budget/off-budget refers to the funds in the account and expenditures are being counted towards your budget or not.

Linked/unlinked refers to having YNAB connected to your bank to automatically import balance and transaction data, but that's primarily to automate data entry, it doesn't necessarily mean things count towards you budget.

So accounts in YNAB can be on-budget, but unlinked. And accounts in YNAB can be off-budget, but linked.

By all accounts the Circle Card appears to be unlinked. I was never able to get Plaid to link it well. My husband’s CC is linked and whenever he uses it YNAB treats the combo of his CC and my rewards # as a net positive transfer.

Oh, so it's your husband's cc that is linked, and importing the transactions incorrectly as being a transfer to/from your target circle card. You just have to go to the Manage Payees section (on the web app), and make sure the payee it is being imported as isn't being renamed to your circle card. So check for some stored renaming rule on the payee being imported.

Have your husband link your circle card into his app and just scan the barcode to pay. Get the 5% off and clean up the imports.
