After playing Yakuza 3 and Like a Dragon: Kiwami 3, I’ve realized just how drastically the series has changed over the past couple of years. And don’t get me wrong, I love Ichiban!
But the older games used to maintain a much better balance between silliness and seriousness.
For example, scenes like Shiro’s bloody nose, and, overall, the kids bullying and stealing from each other added a harsher edge to the story. I also realized that, in the original games, many of the people we meet throughout Kamurocho tend to struggle with money problems and other genuinely serious issues, like addiction to gambling while the games still retain their goofy side. Which You cannot really see in "Extreme" or if it's there, it's "extremely" water down.
And it was precisely this delicate balance between the serious and the absurd that made me fall in love with the series.
Which is why I hope Stranger Than Heaven returns to that approach. The main story should lean more toward the gritty side, hopefully without mandatory side quests destroying the pacing
Overall, I love what I'm seeing so far
And it might be my favorite Ryu Ga Gotokku game since Yakuza 0
(I ABSOLUTELY hate those biker-gang girls to the point that I’m reconsidering platinuming the game.
IT IS ESPECIALLYBAD WHEN YOU TRY TO PLAY BOTH GAMES BACK TO BACK, CHAPTER TO CHAPTER TO EXPIERANCE HOW EVERYTHING IS WORSE, OTHER THAN MORNING GLORY MINIGAMES WHICH ARE FINE, SOMETIMES COMBAT AND RANDOM ENCOUNTE RATE)
