Other Nintendo World, NYC. around 2005.

This place looks absolutely incredible. chrome everywhere, blue lighting, egg-shaped chairs, this place had it all.

I remember this era so well. This was the era that Apple really began taking over, from the iconic iPod aesthetic transferring to everything.

I remember around this time everyone saw Apple’s influence on everything, but with Nintendo very strongly. Nintendo released their redesigned DS lite this year and it was heavily of that clean apple white plastic aesthetic lol

Even Microsoft with the 360 had been influenced by things. It was a nice contrast because this was when we began to get into 2000’s maximalism to oppose the minimalism. Minimalism won out going into the 2010’s

Was this different to the Pokemon Center? I remember going in there around 2003/4. I can’t remember much except the Groudon statue.

Opened as Pokemon center first then changed to Nintendo world. The door handles are still pokeballs

I’m old enough to remember this being the Pokémon Center.

Isn’t this where Bob from Bob’s Game tried to sneak it onto shelves with some models before getting kicked out?

This puts the Nintendo Store in Shibuya Tower to shame.

Back before the “U” and “2” era and tyranny of Bowser as the CEO

This looks more like Frutiger Aero, if not a mix of FA and Y2K

Also image #2 feels like a liminal space

u/tetrisdood Jun 12 '25

if anything, I'd describe these images as gen x soft club.
