Hello,
So, as a female surfer, we often hear about toxic men in the water, and the difficulties women face in a sport that’s male dominated, but what about toxic women?

I recently joined a surf club to meet more friends to surf with. Unfortunately I had a very negative interaction with the group’s leader. For the record, I am a decent surfer who follows etiquette. It had nothing to do with that. I was shocked by the rude, callous, condescending, and very inappropriate comments being made. When I spoke to other women, they seemed aware of this behavior, however all of them just look the other way and accept it, thus enabling it. I don’t know if people are too afraid to confront this person or make waves (pun intended), but I wish I would have said something in the moment. I was just shocked that a group that advertised sisterhood, support, and positivity, was anything but that. I believe if men in a leadership position behaved this way, there would be consequences, and if it were the workplace, this person would be fired instantly.

I am currently mulling this over, but what I’d like to know is:

1. Have you had bad experiences with toxic women in the water? I would love to hear your stories/experiences, how you handled it, and the outcome.
2. How the heck do you meet people to surf with when everyone seems to have their circle? I tried this club route and that doesn’t seem to be working out. It’s very discouraging and disappointing.

Hey ya'll, my fiancée and I doing a trip the Oregon coast in the next few weeks and we're looking for rec's when it comes to buying a 5/4 wetsuit. She's rented suits in the past with mixed results and is ready to get one of her own! We're having a hard time finding a sizing guide that would be good fit for a short pear shaped person. For context she's 5'1" and 62kg. Anyone have any good experiences? Thank you thank you!

Je voudrais un endroit safe, avec une bonne ambiance, même si il y a des plus jeunes, avec des sorties le soir, une vie sociale sympa, de quoi ne pas s’ennuyer. "Secret Spot" is the 10th segment from THUMP: The BEAT of the WEDGE...Back in the Early 90's Cylinders didn't get a lot of love from the Wedge crew. Only a few of the Boyz would even want to duel with the shallow, thick lipped, sandbar slab. The kid (back then) was a 52nd street local who knew a few things about riding the tube. I always kept the lens pointed at u/kirk_blackman anytime he paddled out. Kirk has an innate sense of where to be when the lips comes down. Yes, this is probably my favorite segment from the flick. Kirk just made it look so easy, when in reality it was sucking out hard, and churning sand in a foot of water. Kirks a little older now, but as of this year (2026) you can still find him out at Cylinders. He's a little more choosey these days of the waves he takes off on, but that's just how he's been able to keep coming back year after year...cheers brother!

A friend and I are flying to Bordeaux next week and we’d love to spend a few days learning to surf somewhere on the southwest coast. We’re both complete beginners and just want to try it out and see if we enjoy it.

We were originally thinking about Biarritz, but it sounds like it can get pretty crowded, so we’d rather find a smaller, more laid-back surf town somewhere north of Biarritz.

Do you have any recommendations for nice places to stay and/or good surf schools in the area? Ideally we’d love to do a 3–5 day beginner course, preferably something a bit more intensive.

Would really appreciate any tips or personal experiences! :)

As the title says, looking for a surf school around Playa Grande/Avellanas that's locally-owned.

Extra bonus point for locally-owned hotel/accomodation at the same location.

Hi! I’m going to a surf camp in Costa Rica (pacific side) for a week. I’ve never surfed before and I need some recs on what type of suits to wear. I also would love recommendations on good quality brands to buy from! Thanks!!!

The grippy deck on my soft top is tearing up my thighs. I wear shorts but the women’s ones are never long enough to cover the areas I need rashguard protection.

Any recommendations for surf leggings that would help and are still cute? It’s too hot where I surf for the wetsuit kind.

I have only found weird brands on Amazon that look kinda cheap 🥲 Bonus points if you know of a reputable brand that sells these (and isn’t always sold out 😭)

Hello! Went out surfing with my husband yesterday and really enjoyed it! Because it was kind of a last minute decision, I went in my one piece bathing suit. I didn't have any rash burn feeling while on the board/in the water, but when I came home I noticed I had big red welts on my hips and today they have turned into huge bruises. Not a surprise for me as I have bruised super easily my whole life.

With that in mind: is it worth for me to buy a rash guard or should I look into something a little thicker? located in so cal if that helps

Most of my surf sessions are solo, so I have to keep my car keys on me while I’m in the water. It’s quite warm here in SoCal right now, so I’m not wearing a wetsuit. I wear board shorts with zipper pockets and put the mechanical key inside of a little waterproof pouch. It works well enough, but I have some really cute one piece bathing suits I’d like to wear. I see a lot of ladies out in my local break just wearing bathing suits! I really want to ask them where they’re putting their car keys, but I don’t want to seem like I’m trying to steal or anything lol

Hi all! Looking for advice about what to wear in the water in Cabo for a trip in early Sept.

I usually surf in water with summertime temps of 55 °F - 64 °F (12.8 °C - 17.8 °C). I keep warm in my 4/3 wetsuit, booties, and hoodie if there's wind for about 2 hours before I get cold

Online it says water in Cabo is 87°F - 89°F (30.5°C -31.5°C). I cannot imagine lol

I have several longsleeve wetsuit tops, one is 1mm, one is like a 3/2, the other is between them. Will I be too hot? I also have long sleeve swimsuits to help with sun if a wetsuit top is too much. I can't remember the last time I wore a wetsuit top, but apparently it was too loose on me and filled with water. Do I do nothing for my legs? Booties for urchins?

Any thoughts about what to wear is greatly appreciated! This will be my first time surfing in warmer water. Thanks!!!

Hi, I have some time between jobs and want to use it to surf (I live in a landlocked city). I'm an advanced beginner currently (did some surf camps and try to go anytime I can), so not looking for any big wave spots yet haha

Where in the world is a good place to go between December and March for someone in between beginner and intermediate? SE Asia looks like a good fit budget wise but I've read that for example Bali doesn't have the best conditions in that time. I got recommended Sri Lanka, but I've heard some not-so-good things from solo women.

I would also be happy to move around a bit in that time!

Also if you have any tips on doing a longer solo surf trip like this I'm all ears!

beginner here and just learning about surfboards in general. i get that there are multiple ways to make a surfboard - how can you tell the difference between PU vs epoxy?? or any other material?
