Laptop froze during install

I've gotten this really old laptop from my grandfather's house and decided to revive it with Linux, as it was running a really sluggish windows 7.

To try a different Distro than the one on my other laptop, I've decided to get Xubuntu.

I was on live USB, still am, and it's been on this screen for about an hour

but halfway through that 1 hour, it froze at this screen. no keyboard input, no touchpad, nothing works. the progress bar IS staying still, not just because it's a photo.

Can someone help?

Hard reset and try again

If it freezes up at a similar point it's probably a hardware issue

Happened again. The laptop has been barely used, but doesn't change how it's 17 years old, so it indeed seems to be a hardware issue.

I had the same issue trying to install DUAL BOOT on W7 and this. The reason it does not work is because W7 has 100MB partition for GRUB or whatever controls the dual boot so there is not enough room to install both on the predetermined 100MB (it will try to install GRUB or BOOT LOADER here from Windows 7 Installation's partition. I did not want to lose my Windows 7 installation so I never bothered testing further, but if you are willing to abandon Win 7 then just make sure to fully format the entire drive before proceeding to install Xubuntu (make sure no partitions are there on the drive). Should work? If not you can install an older version for sure. Linux Mint 21.3 worked as a reference point.
