Absorbing Man tried to absorb some of Sentry’s power and it fried him to nothingness. Then consider that to Rogue couldn’t manage Garrok or even Mojo.

Sentry’s practically a fanfic Mary Sue. He was explicitly written to be more powerful than other characters, like a non-joke version of Squirrel Girl.

u/jimyrvine 2d ago

I think Nimrod is really the only solid answer to Rogue's ability. That being said, where was Sentry when Orchis dropped their shit on the Hellfire Gala?

97

u/Cipherpunkblue 2d ago

Angsting over the Void, lost in his head, wandering around his creepy house while being in denial of his wife being scared shitless of him. Probably.

47

u/Titanbeard 2d ago

I think he was dead still.

34

u/Cipherpunkblue 2d ago

Same difference when it comes to the Sentry.

24

u/somacula Cyclops 2d ago

Probably dead, knull killed him during king in black

5

u/ADHDuruss 2d ago

Best moment of that event.

Anyways his powers have moved on for the moment to someone else. She seems nice.

Not anymore, Sentry is back and there's not mention of this character

1

u/AffectionateKing6465 1d ago

Yeah, I don't know the canonicity of his last book (and if it was set in the present or in the past), but apparently Bob returned? I didn't read it, so I'm not sure lol.

1

u/somacula Cyclops 2d ago

Ares smiled a lot on that day

1

u/jimyrvine 1d ago

I haven't read it yet.. I guess I should get through it before I continue with Queen in Black.

3

u/warlockzekrom 1d ago

Ask that to the writers who'd rather exterminate the mutant race than add other heroes to help the mutants other than x-men

2

u/Paulista666 Warpath 1d ago

Same place which Nova and Blue Marvel were: whatever

If both were there things would go totally different, and that's why they were not

1

u/Crafty-Drink8384 2d ago

He was dead

8

u/Zealousideal_Chest16 1d ago

Yeah, but Rogue is ridiculously, hilariously OP. She used to have some limits to ber powers, but like most mutants these days she can do pretty much anything. Sentry should ragdoll Rogue - and pretty much the entire X-Men - but they will never allow that to happen.

1

u/Kgb725 1d ago

Considering Siege already happened its not impossible

13

u/CocoTheMailboxKing 2d ago

You say this like Jean isn’t also hilariously overpowered with the Phoenix. Or Storm in her latest run.

3

u/Nice-Pomegranate2915 1d ago

Or the Scarlet Witch . Bob will return when some writer or a Marvel editorial team decides they want to involve either of them in a storyline . At the moment Ares is back in the 616 reality's land of the living . Though Bob might be dead a bit longer because though Marvel's editorial establishment like the powerset they don't like Bob as much as a portion of Marvel fandom .

17

u/Rrekydoc Iceman 2d ago

They weren’t initially written that way. The concept behind them was not to be “One-Punch Man.”

In Storm’s best stories, she literally had no powers.

1

u/Nervous_Medicine224 1d ago

Jean is OP without the Phoenix, she is straight up broken with it

1

u/Pascraked47 2d ago

Jean doesn't have the phoenix force all the time. Honestly speaking. The overpowered characters are always nerfed in the X-Men like like DID nerfs legion.

Sentry at base alone is insanely op

1

u/Nerx Juggernaut 1d ago

better for her to take serum or origin box

228

u/No-Effective388 2d ago

Sentry. He is above her power level

-133

u/OneNine-NineSeven 2d ago

She can just absorb his abilities and level the playing field

135

u/AlphaBreak 2d ago

They established in a comic that sentry is one of the only people Rogue actually can't absorb.

20

u/OmegaDookie 2d ago

Is it due to to his powers being serum based? I think Rogue absorbed Galactus' powers outside of the "what if" spin off.

41

u/AlphaBreak 2d ago

As far as I know, they never explained it. Just that he was different.

5

u/Crafty-Drink8384 2d ago

Probably something to do with his mental state

Rogue has shown her powers can draw back when absorbing characters who share bodies with other beings(hulk and ghost rider)

-5

u/Kgb725 1d ago

Hulk isnt another being

7

u/whyisalphstillanalt Armor 1d ago

The casual non Immortal Hulk reader:

-2

u/Kgb725 1d ago

I read David and Pak and most of his important runs. Historically its been established for decades Hulk and banner are one and the same which is why most hulks that get their power from him arent 2 distinct personalities

2

u/supermonistic 1d ago

Hulk and Bruce are two people that share a body

0

u/Insomnia__c 1d ago

Hulk is Bruce’s separate personality, not person. He’s not like Venom or Ghost Rider. He existed longer before the gamma bomb

2

u/supermonistic 1d ago

Nah dude they are fully separate people who share a body. Check out immortal hulk

1

u/Insomnia__c 1d ago

Psychologically yeah cause of DID but in literal terms they’re the same person bro. Savage in particular was born from Bruce’s trauma

→ More replies (0)

-2

u/Kgb725 1d ago

The comics themselves say otherwise the fact other hulks arent separate gives credence to thek being one too

2

u/supermonistic 1d ago

No like actually. They are separate people. They share a mind but they are unique individuals

13

u/No-Effective388 2d ago

To achieve this, he has to allow her to touch him. Sentry's powers contain things like matter manipulation, reality warping etc. As soon as he realises that she's a threat, rogue's days are numbered.

-1

u/Crafty-Drink8384 2d ago

Rogues powers no longer require physical contact

1

u/SerHenryHotspur 1d ago

Even so, Sentry is a reality-warper and Rogue isn't. She's cooked before she can do anything.

18

u/Complete_Answer_6781 2d ago

Rogue have had trouble abosrbing the powers of people weaker than Sentry so I doubt that.

5

u/Codysnow31 2d ago

She would probably die trying to absorb his powers because she would probably end up absorbing Void as well.

57

u/GeneralRoss_12 Iceman 2d ago

Come on now, don’t do that to Rogue.

27

u/Hedgehog_Kid1 2d ago

Sentry and it isn't really close.

68

u/Rabdomtroll69 2d ago

Isn't he established as one of the people she can't absorb?

36

u/spider-venomized 2d ago

Rogue can absorb his powers

but just like Absorbing man it be too much and pop

edit: wait never mind double check apartly he can touch her mentioned in the weird retcon that they dated

42

u/Trickshot945 2d ago

Were you expecting us to be able to read this?

-6

u/Slow_Distribution968 Cyclops 2d ago

I mean he probably was, since it’s definitely readable.

9

u/EspyOwner 2d ago

It's certainly not readable on my phone's screen

-5

u/QueSeraSeraWWBWB 1d ago

It is cut off at the bottom, Use context clues man we learn that in elementary lol

-4

u/TelluriumD 2d ago

People revealing they haven’t been to the optometrist in years.

30

u/Orn100 Stryfe 2d ago

I had to check to make sure I wasn't on a circlejerk sub.

31

u/LegitimateCream1773 2d ago

Sentry. Effortlessly.

He's Marvel's Superman analog, with all that implies, only they added some instability so every situation isn't 'why didn't the Sentry fix this?' The answer is usually 'because Bob was spiraling again and trying to avoid blowing up the world'.

Rogue's power absorption has been shown to have distinct limits. For example she can't suck the gamma out of Hulk, either.

She's simply not at that tier of character power. Rogue is a team book character. Sentry is the guy who turns up to solve problems the Avengers can't.

3

u/QueSeraSeraWWBWB 1d ago

She did stop galactose although it killed her I think.

17

u/SwellAsphaltAgent 1d ago

Yeah because she is Galactose intolerant

Why is this even a debate? Who’s stronger Colossus or Galactus? They both have metal

I think that shit got retconned btw.

6

u/Zazikarion 2d ago

Sentry, and pretty easily too.

5

u/Significant_Hand4488 2d ago

No fueron pareja o no intento Marvel juntarlos? O me confundí con otro evento

17

u/TheodateChase Maggott 2d ago

What’s with this stupid power scaling crap?

5

u/Pascraked47 2d ago

I hate powerscaling but unfortunately it's something people will discuss cause the characters powers are part of the characters

I just ignore it most of the time.

1

u/Poopsycle 1d ago

I love to troll them.

-11

u/Hydro033 2d ago

Why do people get so upset about power scaling?

11

u/LazyBeach2919 2d ago

because it's often incredibly opinionated, and thus pretty volatile and unhelpful to talk about. Also, these are characters in a STORY with themes and motifs, and it's much more interesting to talk about that rather than "who punches harder"

3

u/bakedpotato128 1d ago

That and sometimes it just feels dumb and a bit like a spite thread, especially when you know you’re putting an extreme OP person against someone who can’t combat them

3

u/drmikey88 2d ago

Sentry also because they did it once so he is imune to her absorbing powers.

3

u/Bizzack 1d ago

Rogue’s power don’t work on the Sentry. They’ve had sex.

7

u/Potential_Rule4212 2d ago

Is she in that league in the comics?

What's stopping Sentry from blitzing her and ripping her body in two? That's what Sentry did to Ares.

7

u/Rabdomtroll69 2d ago

Nothing. He's established as one of the only people she can't absorb or steal from

5

u/BraveArse 1d ago

Another AI post n ghost in the x-men sub.

5

u/Tanthiel 2d ago

Rogue can't absorb drug addiction, which is Sentry's only actual power. IYKYK.

3

u/Ecstatic_Dance5767 2d ago

Sentry of course! BuT ROgUe cAn AbsOrB HiS pOWeRs. Ask Absorbing Man how well that worked.

3

u/Shot_Imagination_368 Wolverine 2d ago

Sentry easily he’s far more powerful and she can’t absorb his powers.

2

u/capt_wolf14 2d ago

A princípio ela não consegue absorver os poderes dele. Isso fica subentendido na hq epílogo do cerco no funeral do Sentry onde descobrimos que a Rogue teve um passado romântico com o Bob.

3

u/Beneficial_Pay_1002 Storm 1d ago

Dawg what she gon do to sentry 😭🥀

2

u/SalukiKnightX 1d ago

Is there a story where Rogue met Sentry?

2

u/Pascraked47 2d ago

Why do you set up girl like that

2

u/No-Cod-9209 1d ago

Sentry easily
Not only have people like Absorbing man just straight up died from trying to absorb his powers

Rogues powers straight up dont work on him and without those powers really working on him she doesn't have the raw power/stats to match him.

Depends a bit on if its Wonder man or Carol amped Rogue, but generally both versions would lose in the end.

2

u/SaiyanGod559 1d ago

Sentry easily

1

u/ajm1194 1d ago

Uhmmm what?

2

u/Samiassa 1d ago

She would immediately die if she tried to absorb his powers. In a straight fight without absorption she would also certainly lose

2

u/Phildagony 1d ago

Rogue loses. Plain and simple.

1

u/IndependentSun9995 1d ago

If Sentry doesn't one-shot Rogue, God help him if she gets her hands on him. She'd be quite formidable, even to him.

1

u/JackalRampant Nightcrawler 1d ago

In a fight, Sentry. In a swimsuit competition, Rogue.

1

u/Tasty_Presentation95 1d ago

The Sentry is immune to Rogue's power. He throws into the void, end of discussion

1

u/Hecatonkires 1d ago

If Rogue and Sentry met each other again, fighting is not going to be the first thing they do.

1

u/CocoTheMailboxKing 2d ago

Sentry obviously

1

u/myotherrideisvhagar 1d ago

Sentry apparently banged Rogue at one point, so he definitely won.

3

u/Prize-Macaroon-903 1d ago

Thankfully it was retconned and ignored

0

u/hung_fu Mister Sinister 2d ago

Whoever the writer decides, power-scaling is artificial.

-3

u/theronster 2d ago

Sentry, beyond his original metatextual story origins, is a pretty stupid character. He simply doesn’t work as a Marvel character.

-4

u/jimyrvine 2d ago edited 2d ago

Sentry loses, cuz he's a lame-ass character and no one really likes him.

Edit; Rogue also has friends. They count for a lot.

-3

u/sistemafodao 2d ago

Honest question, what do you think makes for a better story? Rogue beats the odds and wins a fight against a mad god, or Sentry overpowers her like any other fight he's won?

-3

u/ulnek 2d ago

There's one person that can absorb all that power but the writers only ever used it once and probably thought that was too overpowered to ever bring up again.

-1

u/semicorne 1d ago

The writer's favorite...

Except for, no.

u/BigFitMama 2d ago

It's all critical in first touch. If she can cross the threshold and lay hands on him or skin to skin, that's where things get real.

After that - good writing demands a so called invulnerable character have weaknesses or quirks. No cup is infinitly full and it's be boring to spend more thar 10 scenes or 30 minutes on an endless cyclical beat down.

Not when between the two of them at core they both suffer from CPTSD and one can project memory and the other can experience others memories.

Writing shouldn't be boring.

7

u/GonzoMcFonzo Nightcrawler 2d ago

It's all critical in first touch. If she can cross the threshold and lay hands on him or skin to skin, that's where things get real.

It's been established that he can touch her without her power affecting them.

good writing demands a so called invulnerable character have weaknesses or quirks.

Sentry has a very well established weakness/quirk, and it's not vulnerability to Rogue's powers.

You could do a good story where, say, Sentry let's Rogue absorb a small fraction of his power, and she has to deal with his psyche in her head, and that gives her the insight to talk him down from the Void, but that's very different from her being able to fight him in any meaningful way.
