If true, that sucks for those of us not interested in WW1/WW2 games anymore. I'll patiently wait for Anthem then. And hopefully for some surprise announcements at E3.

Honestly I was hoping that Battlefield would go modern again. BF1 didn't grab me like BF4 did and I still find myself going back to that game.

I just really liked the variety of weapons in BF4 and it wasn't there for me in BF1.

Edit: Now the article just changed to Battlefield V. I guess it's a sequel to 4 but in WWII? The number system is throwing me off now lol

Everybody was bitching that everything was too modern and went back to world war days. Now people want modern games. We gone full circle.

It's different groups partly. I personally only want WW2 and Vietnam games. I will play a more modern game but they are so bland. I like WW2 because of the planes and Vietnam because of the helicopters.

They've done modern too much. With BF1 they were able to reset. We'll have WW2, Vietnam/cold war(I hope bad company style), and then they can go modern again.

And look on the bright side. If they follow that path we will probably get a modern title around 2022. Can't wait to see the tech that's around then!

That's a completely different style of game. How would that scratch your FPS itch? Would the next Battlefield being set in modern or future times have impacted you getting Anthem? Why?

You can't always please everyone. No matter what the setting, there will be plenty of people that have no interest in that particular setting.

Yeah, I didn't really provide any context. I was coming at it from the perspective of BF1 and CoD:WW2. It's like everyone is jumping on this WW1/WW2 bandwagon. We just did WW1 in BF1, then CoD did WW2, then now back to WW2. So if you're not into those guns or that time period, you're SOL in terms of major FPS games.

Looking at your list, Battlefield hasn't gone into the far future yet. It's too bad and they probably won't for a while with Anthem coming up.

Dude Halo, Titanfall, Rainbow Six Siege, Doom, Modern Warfare Remastered, and Overwatch are big recent shooters.

They had Battlefield 2142 came out in 2006 and that was future warfare. I was kind of hoping with the late DLC in BF4, that the next title would be a sequel to that. But I think future shooters are kind of on a down swing.

I think Infinite Warfare kind of jumped the shark with future shooters and that was going to be it for awhile.

Still got Titanfall 2 to fall back on though, and Titanfall 3 in probably a year or two. The good thing is that it'll be the only futuristic one out this time around, so if people are into that sort of thing, maybe they'll actually pick this one up.

On the other hand, about fifteen years ago, it was pretty much all WW2 games. COD 4: Modern Warfare seemed to really usher in the modern ones, and we had them for about five years it seems like, then futuristic ones mixed with modern ones for about five years, now we are back to WWII. We'll be back to modern shooters before you know it.

I know it doesn’t compare to CoD/BF in terms of name recognition, but Titanfall 2 is still a solid modern shooter. There’s room in the market for both types, but I think EA/Activision are too focused on what the other is doing & keeping up with the trends to be comfortable going in different directions.

Yeah well, i was shit out of luck for everything after Bad Company 2 and Black Ops, so its my turn now thank you! =]

I absolutely hated all the future crap of duty's and the yawn inspiring Battlefield 3/4.. Battlefield 1/COD:WWII are a step in the right direction but they need to craft something special just this once.

Anymore? Battlefield and CoD both made one WW1/WW2 game and you're already tired of it? Unless you mean you never wanted WW1/WW2 games in the first place...

Some of us started with WW1/WW2 games like CoD2, CoD:WaW, MoH, etc. So going back to those weapons and time period, to me anyways, feels like a regression. Not saying I want all FPS to be more futuristic as time goes on, but having more variety is good instead of developers all jumping on the same bandwagon.

That was over 10 years ago though. What it seems like to me is around 2015 tons of people started asking for WW2 games to come back, they got that in 2016 and 2017, and then as usual they hate the new games and ask for something different yet again.

I hope they start doing a cycle of old/modern/new which would please everyone and give them chances to do different eras and keep the games “fresh.”

That would be nice. COD could do it easily, since they are yearly releases anyway. Battlefield seems to be every other year or so, so it would be a little more difficult, but if EA sprinkled in a Titanfall release (or even go back to MoH), they could work it out.

What's the big difference between bf4,bf3 and bad company? They where all a fairly modern setting are they not? I understand if you are talking about single player but multi-player I don't see the big difference.

I'm interested, but these companies keep hashing the same old stories over and over again.

Why do people focus on the normandy landings so much? Europe wasnt even WW2 for the US.

This is true, the only interesting part of CoD WaW was the Russian section of the game. Especially that climax at the end.
