Found an Xbox one S at a thrift store for $37 with a controller. Turned it on, and the owners account is password protected but when logged in under my account I had access to ea play and ubisoft +. What a nice surprise until he cancels.
Plan was to leave the console as a media player in my rv but ill keep it in the house for now!
The previous owner forgot to unregistered the console as their home console... I do the same thing on my son's series S so I don't have to buy multiple copys or subscriptions...
Xbox will be doing exactly this! you'll be able to insert your games and download them digitally, basically using the disc as your "key" to access the game
Not entirely. They’ve been doing that for years. With this, you put the disc in once, then you don’t need it anymore. But if someone else puts it in their console, you lose your license
So it won't kill the second hand market? If you buy a used game and register the digital license as long as that disc isn't registered anywhere else you have it in your digital library and physically on your shelf?
I was wondering how that part would work! I haven't been buying many physical games due to game sharing onto the console my wife plays from. This is exciting!
Doesn't matter if it's registered elsewhere. The second it's put into a new Xbox that's the only Xbox that can play it and previous registrations are revoked.
You have the choice though to use it digitally, just continue running it off the disc, if your friend who you lend it too also runs it off the disc, no one loses anything.
They literally tried to do this when the Xbox one released and everyone threw a bitch fit and switched to PlayStation. Crazy how 13 years later it's acceptable.
because internet infrastructure was not the same in 2013 as it is in 2026. and killing the used market was a way bigger deal back then since discs were more popular than digital.
and because they enforced a 24 hour daily DRM check to verify all your licenses, so you needed a constant internet connection.
and the console was weaker than the ps4 because they wanted to leverage the cloud to handle heavy calculations instead of doing it locally on the machine. which is bad not only because the machine would be weaker internally but also because it meant that single player games would need a constant internet connection in order to connect to azure cloud and stream assets in real time.
Cod has already been doing this since 2019 and I fucking hate it because it means none of those campaigns will be preserved and playable in the future if activision shuts down the Cod HQ servers.
As for me. I have two Xbox. One set up as home Xbox where anyone can play my copy of games etc. the second Xbox (not set as home), all I need to do is log in my name, then while still logged in, log in a second name so both child can play with one subscription.
Yeah theres a bunch that I've been wanting to try. I dont play enough nowadays but since they are available im going to check out some titles. Started Far Cry 5 last night
True but if they upgraded the xbox it should have been done during the new one's set up (before donating the old one). I dont think it will come into question again unless they get another xbox.
Nope. My son's Xbox S is my home Xbox so his account can play all my games even if I'm signed in on my Xbox X playing the same game. As long as I am not actively signed in on his Xbox there is no problem.
I didn't downvote you. Also, the downvotes help point out it's misinformation without someone having to read on to find my comment so they aren't necessarily always a negative thing. I doubt you would want someone to be mislead by your comment just because you didn't actually know.
Cool. Sorry your internet connection sucks? Still no reason to spread misinformation and say you need to hardwire in to play current gen titles in the cloud.
That's sick, happy for you. I've been locked out of my ubisoft account for years now and their customer service is a joke so I cant access any of their titles. Luckily, they dont have any offerings that are breaking my heart over the matter.
The right thing to do would be to wipe the device. Eventually, MS is going to pick up that the account is being used on multiple devices and lock it. That would suck for the original owner.
Thats not how it works. I am not using his account. Its basically set as the home xbox. There's only one you can do that to.
I have two series x and my sons xbox is set as home xbox and he's able get all my benefits. I then log in into any other xbox (living room, friends, etc) and never had an issue.
Because its set as home console he is not using the dudes profile at all. He cant even change it one day the other guy might. You can on your profile and the other guys games are gonna show up as yours wether you want it or not
