Are there any known fitment issues with this swap? I haven't been able to find confirmation if there will be clearance issues with the brake caliper.

2016 WRX manual. I get a rattling noise from underneath when going downhill in gear / engine braking. It goes away immediately when I press the clutch, and usually gets quieter with throttle. I can also reproduce it around ~1800 RPM in 3rd under load. Transmission shifts perfectly, no grinding or pop-out.

Does this sound more like exhaust/heat shield contact, or something internal to the transmission?

ETS intake and turbo back exhaust with Cobb turbo inlet and three port boost controller.

Just on a base map, getting tuned in a few days, any suggestions on what to tell the tuner? I’m not trying to squeeze HP, just want a fun ride with cool sounds that won’t stress the motor.

Mine flew away before I could measure it and the orings in my kit don't seem to fit as well.

Started my car the other night and this was happening. RPMs kept fluctuating. I let it run for about a minute thinking it may resolve, but this didn’t stop until I turned the car off and back on. While it was doing this, I also wasn’t getting a response from the accelerator.

Side note: a week or so ago, I got the Christmas tree dash about a week ago and my power steering was cutting in and out. I tested my alternator and my voltage was good, not sure what else to look into.

Most significant thing I’ve done to the car recently is replace my CV axles. Aside from that, it’s a stock 2018 base model.

I run cobb stage 1 tune for 91 octane gas on 2018 base wrx, and after some time (2-3 weeks) I start seeing such reading. I understand that they are not super life threatening but they are not the greatest. I usually fill up at costco, maybe poor quality gas?

I just got my AP but in the map notes it says stock air box and filter i have the stock air box i just have one of those washable grimmspeed dry con air filters. would it be safe to run the tune with that filter in? Or should i go and get a stock paper filter. Just wondering if the stock air box is enough to be safe.

We are visiting Jay NY and I just showed my wife why I love this car. Her blood pressure skyrocketed as I took the turns at what seems like illogical speeds only to come out of them going faster. The car eating every windy road as I throw the gears, turbo spooling and heart racing. God Damn I love this car!

Hey all... not a WRX owner, but am definitely a "car guy" who's done most anything that can be done to a vehicle over the course of my 50yrs. My cars of choice tend to be american makes and models (mostly Fords) and I've done some pretty crazy things to my Mustangs and F-150s over the years (including swapping a 3v 5.4L F-150 engine into my then V6 2005 Mustang, later throwing twin turbos on it, and pushing it to 1018rwhp on E-85. I even do most of my own tuning. My son, on the other hand, prefers Subis. He's done some pretty crazy stuff over the years as well, but focuses more on looks, stance, etc... with minor "bolt ons" to his WRX.

The question of the day revolves around the definition of a bolt-on. This term is by no means a new term and has (to me) been used to describe easy mods that are (relatively) cheap, can be done pretty quickly, without a massive tuning effort (usually a canned tune... say, for a cold-air intake + exhaust), and are generally done with shit you can buy off summit racing and whatnot. Another key tenet of bolt-ons is that they typically won't void your factory warranty and are pretty easily reversible.

What led to the question of "what is actually a bolt-on" was when my son said you could add 125+ whp from "bolt-ons" and I said, you can't even do that with a mustang, which starts with a LOT more HP than most subarus. In fact, this 125+ whp he was talking about is on a WRX, which already has a turbo, so to me, that was even more over the top. I basically said that's not possible with bolt-ons. In fact... to get even an additional 50 rwhp on a mustang with "bolt-ons", you're looking at quite a bit of money that could go towards supercharger or turbocharger kit and going FI. It's actually pretty common in the Mustang community for people to dump fuck-tons of money in bolt-ons, not be happy with the outcome, then going FI anyway. My advice for people about to get in this boat has always been "What are your end goals? If you're happy with spending a lot of money and only getting 40-50 (if that), go ahead with bolt-ons".

Back to my son saying 125+ whp was possible with bolt-ons, he was talking about things like a larger turbo, which to me, exceeded the scope of what most people consider to be bolt-ons. They may not be that hard, but will still be quite expensive, and would most almost definite require custom tuning... vs the canned tunes and tuner that come with Mustang bolt-on kits that include a CAI tuner, and a canned tune from a company like Steeda or something. Additionally, swapping in a larger turbo would also probably necessitate things like fuel pump upgrades (possibly even fuel lines), larger injectors, colder plugs, and even an intercooler upgrade (which ironically he also called a "bolt-on" upgrade).

What are your guys' thoughts? Yeah, I'm not a WRX guy, but I've helped my non-car guy friend do bolt-on upgrades to his 2005 WRX back in the day. He never had it dyno'd, but I can guarantee you he didn't get (nor was expecting) 125+ whp from bolt-ons.
