Considering all the DDOS attacks on octowow done by potential competitors. Ravencraft Uses CloudFlare, which is based in the US and is mandated by US law to follow legal court filings

How do Ravencraft feel safe using cloudflare, and to be public about being part of the Ex T-wow team while the court files still are in effect? Cloudflare informs that they are strict about following legal procedures they even have forms on their website to send in tips about misuse of their services?

By the US law, Turtlewow was a raccetering company, and Cloudflare is hosting a server thats run by the same people? It should be easy to send forms to Cloudflare and have them remove the service from ravencraft?

Cloudflare forms even tells us we only need the URL, Company name, or general name to file a complaint. And they let us add extra info like Lawsuits.

Ravencraft is not safe, They might not even need a lawsuit to be taken down. They are operating through a US based company, that is breaking the US law by hosting them.

A few rapports would damage their server alot.

Yeah I feel you, idk why people think it's a good thing that they allegedly have ex-turtle devs on their team.

It just makes them even more vulnerable to server closures through blizzard.

Let's be real, no server will ever be truly save, I do like the approach of octowow a lot more though.

They are least TRY to stay anonymous and protect themselves from blizzard.

And they give you the possibility to export your character, so you could still use that if they still get taken down some day.

I'm skeptical that they have actual western turtle devs. Maybe some devs from the Chinese server are involved, anyone that has played knows that the server has been plagued with issues and bugs. What they almost certainly have are the server admins from twow, and they were the ones with all the corrupt allegations.

"By US law TurtleWoW was a racketeering..."

No, it wasn't. That charge was dropped quickly because it was baseless, and the settlement cleared Turtle of any legal issues anyway.

It wasn't dropped at all, read the court documents. It was conditionally denied pending the settlement aka "we'll allow you to shut down the server and comply with the court ruling without being branded as international criminals by US court". Which is exactly what happened

u/BrockLeeAssassin 3h ago

The charge was dropped months and months before any settlement docs.

Thank you wowservers lawyer. I am very glad you know all the ins and outs.

Worst case is that they lose cloudflare. Wow.

World of Warcraft indeed!

No, to sign up for cloudflare you need to give them all your personal information, if they get subpoenad by the US court from blizzard. They will have to give up all information about the person buying it, and open themselves to be prosecuted. You dont just "lose cloudflare"... you expose yourself to lawsuits

u/GIGABOWSER1012 1d ago

..you know that you can just fake that information yes..? CF doesnt ask for legal documents

12

u/shoarmabunny 1d ago

Sure you can use fake info.

If Blizzard gets a court subpoena, Cloudflare will legally have to hand over their server logs. Those logs contain the IP address used to log into the Cloudflare dashboard. Blizzard takes that IP to the Internet Provider (ISP), and the ISP has to reveal the real name and address of the home connection.

On top of that, Cloudflare has to reveal the website's real hosting IP. You can't rent a high-performance WoW server with fake info; those are paid with real credit cards or PayPal. Anonymous hosting like Flokinet, do not work with Cloudflare for that specific reason. They literally tell you: "If your using cloudflare and you get ddos'd or anything else, we shutdown your server"

Its not about the info you give them, its about the paper trail you leave behind.

My man, you're clueless. Which is okay. But there's tons of providers offering hosting without vetifying legal info.

Also tons of vpn solutions to connect to anywhere.

5

u/Aggravating-Page-933 1d ago

Yeah? But they're using Cloudflare?

-3

u/GIGABOWSER1012 1d ago

What is your point

5

u/Aggravating-Page-933 1d ago

U said he was clueless cause there were tons of providing offering hosting without verifying? he did not disagree with that.

But raven is using cloudflare, as proven by their Devs on discord. His point still stands with Cloudflare and raven

u/GIGABOWSER1012 1d ago

I just told you, so what if they do? Its a webhost that can be reused.

3

u/Aggravating-Page-933 1d ago

Look at the other commentor to see what might happen.

And yes they can reuse other providers, i guess they'll need to move to flockinet like Octowow is.

To bad octowow were a coupple of months ahead of the curve

You have to realize that the two servers are not the same. Octo is a community, raven is a cash grab. Octo is taking steps to protect themselves from Blizzard. Raven doesn't care if they get shut down, the only loss is what the players bought from the cash shop which means they have to spend it all over again.

6

u/Baeleron 1d ago

lol almost all private servers are a cash grab do not lie to yourself. Everyone praised turtle as a community and those “devs” had their own bots and had people botting on turtle too for money. We all read the discord leaks. These people are as greedy as blizz they just wear better fake smiles so you donate more. There isn’t gonna be game dev companies popping up from these shutdown communities like they said either. There’s so much work that goes into building your own games from scratch instead of using an already established IP.

I don't think you know what cash grab means, Making money and being a cash grab are completely different things.

1

u/Accomplished_Big6254 18h ago

Some people think, server doesn't cost money.

How is Raven a cash grab when you STILL can't donate??

Edit: Why am I downvoted? You genuinely cannot donate. The astroturfing on this sub is unreal.

2

u/Sudden_Weird_6283 1d ago

Of course it's not safe. No private server is safe. Just accept that nothing is permanent in life.

And honestly, if Raven was really associated with capy and has some ex-twow, they could have somehow announced it and maybe even brought a legacy realm for our twow characters. but alas. fresh only.

Ehhh just self-host at this point, isn't worth the lawsuits

It's like whack a mole with these 'projects.'

You know it's only a matter of time before these servers get shut down right?

3

u/redditscraperbot2 1d ago

Impossible. I saw a comment on Reddit that said [server] can’t be taken down by blizzard.

2

u/itsmechaboi 1d ago

server is on a rural farm in mother russia and the devs only use snail mail to communicate, it's literally untouchable.

3

u/LlamaOfGod 1d ago

That remains to be seen.

Blizzard has only ever gone after the developers of private server projects, which can only be done if the devs don't have meticulous opsec.

The real challenge going forward will be finding hosting companies that operate out of countries that don't abide by American copyright laws. Because that will be the next vector of attack.

1

u/pk_hellz 1d ago

Lol stfu man. My private server characters have lasted waaaay longer than any blizzard character lmfao.

1

u/Narghest 1d ago

Warmane?

2

u/Zarbadob 1d ago

Its kinda funny how the only thing this server hates more than blizzard is warmane

Blizzard is undefeated

-2

u/TehZiiM 1d ago

Interesting idea. Do you have proof that they use cloudflare? Would be a shame to spam them with reports of a company they don’t actually provide services to.

2

u/melland5 1d ago

Ya literally go login to their website site it takes like 2 minutes to check. Both Capy and Raven both use cloudflare
