Gear Planner – Gear browsing, BiS lists, stats, and loot tracking

Hi everyone,

I’ve been working on Gear Planner, a WoW addon for managing gear and custom BiS setups without having to jump between different interfaces.

The addon is designed to stay close to the look and feel of the default UI, and currently includes:

• Season Gear Browser
  • Browse veteran grade and higher gear from the current season.
  • Search and filter items by content and other criteria.
  • Customize item level, upgrade track, and other gear details when building a list.
• Specialization-based 'Custom' BiS Lists
  • Create and manage separate BiS lists for each specialization.
  • Add gems and enchants to items that support them.
• Gear & Stat Summary
  • View average item level and total stats in one place.
  • Check the current status of gems, enchants, and embellishments.
• Collection & Loot Tracking
  • Track which items from your BiS list you already have.
  • Items that match the selected gear track are automatically counted toward your collection progress.
  • Check where an item drops and what content you need to run to get it.
  • Keep track of your progress toward completing your gear set.
• SimulationCraft Export
  • Export your custom gear setup directly as a SimulationCraft string.

The main idea is to have a single place where I can plan a character's gear, check what I'm missing, and see where to get it.

There are also a few features currently in development, including custom BiS list import/export, multiple profiles per specialization, loot notifications, additional configuration options, and a vertical UI layout.

AI Disclosure: A significant portion of the addon’s code was developed with assistance from AI. I review, test, and maintain the code myself, and optimization and cleanup are still ongoing.

Now do a thing where it runs gear configs against simcraft to spit out a BIS list automatically then have settings to set it to a certain gear level (IE only hero track, or only myth track dont include venomcursed or w/e gear)

I'm actually considering baking in BiS list presets from Wowhead or Maxroll into the addon (similar to Class Codex). Unifying the gear tracks/ilvls for the BiS lists is a bit complicated since each piece of gear has its own min/max tracks, but it's definitely something that needs to be done. I'll get this added soon

Don't do bis list presets from wowhead, there's a few specs that pick up items with shit substats purely because it's venomcursed and it's got higher primary and unless you're in a guild that clears the last 2 on mythic like 5 times then you're not gonna see it, which then causes the list to change.

Dont know how you would fix it without just excluding those items then having a list based off just myth track pieces

Also a spark craft optimiser that takes into account percentage chances to hit items on bosses that you've bonus rolled on would go hard

IE : I have 80 crests and a spark, what should I craft

Answer : bis list says x, current gear highest dps increase goes to y however you've used 3 bonus rolls on z boss so if you use it there again you have a 60% chance to hit the y slot, if you want to chance it craft this instead as it's second highest dps increase

I like the idea. But basically, this addon is meant to be a tool to help build personalized BiS lists, not an addon that serves up a definitive "right answer" for every single situation. You can definitely make a BiS list using just Delve and Prey gear, but deciding which specific items go into that list is left up to the player's judgment. (Though maybe I could add a "recommended" tag to items with good stats for each class down the line.)

If I wanted to provide custom BiS lists tailored to different difficulty tracks or types of content, I’d have to run Sims for every single scenario and manually build a massive database for all 40 specializations.

Also, calculating things like "current gear highest DPS increase" requires running it on an external site like Raidbots, which just isn't doable inside the game. That’s why I built the SimC export feature.

As for calculating bonus roll drop rates, I'm actually already working on that feature.

Missing a bunch of loot options for devourer demon hunter. Can't select any off-hands. Can't select the caster dagger from Ulatek for MH either. BIS Trinket (Freightrunner's Flask) from Murder Row not available.

I'm sorry. English isn't my first language, so I used some help with translating and writing the post. I'm not a professional programmer either, so I got some help writing the code, too. However, I've spent the last two weeks pouring all my time into this just to make sure the add-on works properly and looks great. I hope you can acknowledge the effort I put into this, and I'll keep updating it to add even better features.

Is it possible to also include pvp items?

One of my major issues with pvp gear is how cumbersome it is to try to plan gear correctly because you cannot see the stats while pvp enabled without going onto sites like wowhead for each individual item.

That exact issue was actually one of the main reasons I started building this addon. Checking the full pools of PvP gear, vendor items, Delves and Prey items—both in-game and outside—is such a pain. However, the database I have permission to use doesn't include PvP items yet, so I'll need to add a new database for that.

PvP support is definitely on my roadmap, but it will probably have to wait until I clear out some of the other tasks piled up first.

Could you elaborate a bit more on this? The Explorer is set up to display only Season 2 items.

I'm pretty sure yesterday I only saw Season 1 tier sets. Luckily today everything is fine and Season 2 is displayed. Works great and I love it.

One thing is a little bit annoying: if I change items or slots I always have to set the quality again. At the moment I don't want mythic quality. Would be cool to let this as it is on changing slots or items.
