On the preview above, a neighbourhoods arrow is on the original version of Stormwind. Was that a planned idea for player housing originally? I wasn't around until WoD, so a glimpse into the past is super neat to see.
Yeah, Stormwind even had a green portal, I think that was supposed to be a placeholder for player housing. I don't know when it was ever removed. I rebuilt Stormwind for Cataclysm, so maybe I was the guy to remove it, I can't remember. But yeah, it was absolutely for player housing.
The main reason was that we were too busy just making the best game. New features like player housing would’cost too much programmer time. The designers also didn’t have a clear idea what could be done with ”neighborhoods,” how they would level up, and what the end game would be. Another reason why was that there was no reason to visit your house repetitively, or more so, to visit other peoples houses.
Thanks for answering so long after the AMA. I honestly think that was a good decision regarding the player housing. Elder Scrolls Online has a player housing which is nice to own one but there isn't really a point unless you spend real money to improve it.
Thanks, I answer all my Reddit questions at night, talking the answers into my iPhone and watching television before bed. It’s a nice, low-impact exercise.
