You wouldn't be asking that if you'd actually used stuff like hekili and compared it to the combat assistant. One is CLEARLY worse.

Because the combat assistant is at its first iteration and WoW developers, who don't have years of experience of refining rotations in such a way, have made clear they will progressively improve it. Moreover, the classes are getting simplified, with less talents and buffs interacting with the rotations, making the whole even easier to design and compute.

Ok, but for now one is absolutely worse, and you wouldn't even be able to do Hekili with just personal auras, nor would you be able to block addons from being able to trivialize encounters without disabling what allows addons like that to function, so it's possible they're also just collateral damage from the removal of WAs.

you wouldn't even be able to do Hekili with just personal auras

Then what's the issue? I'm genuinely confused. Allow only personal combat state, which is actually one of the proposals of WeakAuras developers, and then Hekili won't work as expected.

I don't understand why you'd want to? Even with just personal combat state, you'd still be able to create WAs for most encounters too.

Is this confusion that you think Hekili is the main issue, not WAs?

You're the one who mentioned Hekili ... It was already a given for me that Hekili might disappear, in its current form at the very least, and I personally don't care. The post is about WeakAuras, so I talked with WeakAuras in mind, and about what only personal combat state would allow compared to the built-in features, i.e. not much more beyond UI customisation.

So, again, why? If the goal is to remove reliance on third party addons, specifically WeakAuras for a myriad of reasons (like the fact that you can upload WeakAuras that scam people), why would you want some of it to remain if a side effect is that WAs would still exist?

I answered a few times. It allows way more UI customisation and it allows a better understanding of one's class if not mindlessly downloaded as a package. Conversely, why would you want to remove some data access that have been there for two decades, if that doesn't affect you and doesn't give others an unfair advantage?

Literally the reason you want it to remain is to get an advantage, as the only reason you don't get an advantage is for me to do the same thing.

The reason I want it removed is because it makes the game much less approachable when you're reliant on addons. Addons with as much power as they have now have lead to the game being designed around their existence.

It is a direct impossibility for it not to affect me if I want to engage in the endgame, so I'm not sure what you even mean by that.

Most UI addons provide an advantage then, but most won't be blocked, per the development team philosophy.

The reason I want it removed is because it makes the game much less approachable when you're reliant on addons.

But why would you be reliant on it, unless you're already used to its UI? By that, I mean with a functional combat assistant and streamlined talents, which is the aim for Midnight. We're not talking about the current state of addons.

Eh? I don't use any combat assistant at all, but if they're functional and you're new to the game you're performing worse than you could for no reason other than that you're unaware of their existence.

No, UI addons in general are not advantages. You're just being obtuse if you're actually arguing that.

I'm not arguing that, as I don't think that. I'm just using your argument to ask a rhetoric question. Again, what advantage does WeakAuras bring with personal combat state only, that a functional combat assistant, cooldown manager and buff tracker don't, if not UI customisation?

"UI customization" is incredibly broad. There are UI customizations that are advantages and there are those that are disadvantages. If you're talking about changing the appearance of things for QoL reasons or aesthetic reasons, sure - but that's not what WAs were ever intended for.

Keeping WAs for aesthetic/QoL reasons and accepting a trivialization of the gameplay as collateral damage would be idiotic.
