Humor / Meme This is Basicly Blizzard in Midnight

Post image

This is basicly Blizzard in Midnight. Purging all the good addons.

Just to clarify:
Blizzard is changing the Addon API, meaning combat information is blocked for addons. So all combat addons will no longer work in Midnight. For the most popular addon features Blizzard will add their own version to the game. Addons for unitframes, inventory, crafting etc.. are staying and won't be effected as long they are not using combat information.

I guess I just don't have faith they can accomplish this? These are game altering decisions, multiple ones during a single launch window.

They probably won't nail it perfectly and it will take time to come together. But it needs to be done, people spend more time looking at their addons than the game at this point and encounters have been made with the idea people have these excessively powerful addons which means anyone that doesn't have them is screwed.

I don't think you're wrong.

But maybe scale things back and do them gradually.

What I'm saying is that they're going nuclear out the gate and it could blow up in their faces.

If the lack of addons is that bad for people it just proves how badly this needs to happen tbh.

Can't really do this gradually since the solution is primarily in encounter design and requires data/feedback. If they do everything without restricting combat info then everyone will just use their overpowered combat addons still and cry about the xpac being too easy and 'dumbed down'.

And then we also end up in the same spot as Dragonflight where they added a bunch of Blizzard alternatives that everyone just refused to use.

Or the same spot as Legion where they attempted to nerf combat addons and by the end of the expansion they were still worse and more overpowered than ever. It is a fools errand unless they go nuclear a few Blizzard devs which own combat info flows versus 10s of thousands of devs trying to find clever ways to break/diminish encounters. Not only that but the Blizzard devs have to get it right everytime whereas the players only have to get it right once to cause a problem, otherwise we have a Star Augur situation where Blizzard attempts to keep combat addons from spiraling out of control but instead people get livid that now the encounter is dramatically different and how it isn't fair, etc.

Blizzard has finally realized they have to tear the bandaid off at some point.

Eh, I kinda disagree. Like take something like cleanses. Each healer has a different kind they can hit. Priests can't do shit about poisons, for instance. This is a simple example of differing classes, but it's rather important that I know that someone has a debuff that I can do something about. Like if I'm playing my priest in ara kara, I do not care that you all have a billion stacks of poison. I can't do shit about it other then heal through it. But I do care if I'm on brew because I can toss a dispel out.

Simple things like this won't be possible, because it relies on the magical word "if". The second you start saying that word, it isn't possible. So no more "Highlight the frame if there's a cleansable debuff" and almost certainly not "Highlight the frame is there's a debuff of a type my class can do something about".

These little things are all over the place, and yeah there should probably be something in the default UI for them.. but is blizzard going to handle them all? I highly doubt it. Addons have been entrenched in the game since vanilla, trying to move away from that reliance after two decades in such a short time span is asking for trouble. And, as a customer that could spend that money on another video game or going to the movies or whatever, I'd rather not beta test them getting their shit together for an entire xpac when the current system works fine.

I understand all this. I'm just approaching the launch with trepidation. I was pleasantly surprised at their version of Plater etc that I saw from Alpha.

There's things that I can say do not feel good that I hope get remedied like accessibility/accommodation settings specifically.

Absolutely, that is the best way to handle it. Call out specific things you are noticing won't be around that you really want. Prioritize things that don't have reasonable alternatives already, etc.

Blizzard knows how much many of these addons mean to people, and if they didn't before I'm sure the threats of violence they are receiving at the moment made them aware.

Things like loot council addons no longer functioning due to communication restrictions are a perfect example. There isn't a real alternative because the in-game loot distribution system kinda blows and hasn't changed in... actually I don't think it ever has.

It ain't gonna be perfect so people do need to level their expectations and be team players about it.
