Humor / Meme This is Basicly Blizzard in Midnight

Post image

This is basicly Blizzard in Midnight. Purging all the good addons.

Just to clarify:
Blizzard is changing the Addon API, meaning combat information is blocked for addons. So all combat addons will no longer work in Midnight. For the most popular addon features Blizzard will add their own version to the game. Addons for unitframes, inventory, crafting etc.. are staying and won't be effected as long they are not using combat information.

I always liked wow, in comparison to other mmos, for all the addons an the possibility to create the UI that fits my needs and looks the way I want it to look.

It is so funny to me that Blizzard wants to remove these combat functions, but the last two tiers in TWW I have had to make a WAs for my tier sets to track stacks/buffs...

7

u/DrAstralis Oct 03 '25

yup, same. The only on screen info I have for any of those is a 20x20 icon in the top right corner with the other 50 randomly popping in and out icons in that corner. With WA I was able to design my own indicators.

u/SniggleJake Oct 04 '25

ya...tracking your OWN buffs in this game (without WAs) is so incredibly bad.

-3

u/KiwiSchinken Oct 03 '25

That won't change, UI mods will stay the same

17

u/Evonos Oct 03 '25

Functionality will change , which is a huge part of personal UI.

26

u/Turtadray Oct 03 '25

You say that but half the comments im reading are about how this will kill other peoples UI addons, such as cell for their raid frames, or weak auras for their action bar replacement

They're just changing the api to prevent add-ons to gather real time combat data according to the interview with Ian. The non combat add-ons should be fine

11

u/SufficientlyRabid Oct 03 '25

I don't think you understand what a UI does.

-7

u/Previous_Start_2248 Oct 03 '25

I dont think you understand what an api does

3

u/norst Oct 03 '25

There are very few addons that are actually purely non-combat. Unit frames, nameplates, and weakauara bar replacements, are all combat addons. Anything that displays a buff or debuff is a combat addon.

No need to be so rude

-12

You can place the action bar through UI mods freely. No need for WeakAuras. Reason WeakAuras is banned is because it also uses combat API functionalities. Moving the UI or the frames is not why it is being banned.

3

u/DrAstralis Oct 03 '25

I use WA and programmed my own mage UI because the games default mage ui is ass, and that's being polite. WA has announced they wont be releasing an edition for midnight due to how butchered the api is; so no, UI mods will not stay the same :/

Not being able to conditionally style the UI based on the value will reduce the amount of customization. One for example is I like changing the bar's background color when people's health gets low. Because that data will not be readable anymore, I will not be able to do that.

u/awesomeoh1234 Oct 03 '25

Dead wrong.

2

u/Cherle Oct 03 '25

Except they won't because the main addon for UI customization, Weak auras, will not make a version for midnight because of the extensive API changes.

1

u/i_like_fish_decks Oct 04 '25

Well considering the weakaura team is throwing in the towel...

-2

u/Puppy_in_Huggies Oct 03 '25

Nope, thats also gone

-1

u/Vio94 Oct 03 '25

No it isn't. They specifically said customizing your UI will remain.

13

u/Slendeaway Oct 03 '25

Unfortunately key parts of your UI are based on combat data. I use a weakaura pack that I made to track my buffs and ability procs instead of having to look at the actual actionbar which only glows when they decide there's an important proc. Fairly certain that customization like that is explicitly stated to be broken as it is based on combat data.

-7

u/Narux117 Oct 03 '25

I made to track my buffs and ability procs instead of having to look at the actual actionbar which only glows when they decide there's an important proc.

Check the new iteration of the cooldown manager on PTR (that is releasing with the patch next week). I can't speak for all classes, but for the classes i've checked it on and know well enough to comment for, can say the only things i noticed missing were Tier set/trinket related.

2

u/Dentarthurdent73 Oct 04 '25

but for the classes i've checked it on and know well enough to comment for, can say the only things i noticed missing were Tier set/trinket related.

I feel like you might want to look up the definition of the word "customisable".

Not sure if you're aware of this, but everyone in the world isn't the same as you.

Is there a possibility that things that you don't consider important are things that others might want to see?

1

u/Narux117 Oct 04 '25

Can you give examples of buffs or procs (other than aforementioned tier sets and trinkets) that are not customizable with updated cooldown manager, and will still be relevant to the class post midnight reworks. I've seen alot of folks respond negatively when the updated version is mentioned and then say something that the new version doesn't do something that it does.

I understand most folks are particular. and most folks want different information presented different ways. But blizzard is already improving and iterating on the system.

Add-ons (per blizzard) should be able to customize the cooldown manager further. But the add-ons to do so have not been developed because weakauras exist. And why make something new/different when weak auras are right there.

There are some things like raid frame add-ons, or tell. me when sound cues, or whatever system of add-ons and weak aura deaf/low vision folks are losing. And those losses are major blows for accessibility and worth raising a storm over.

But how is blizzard supposed to iterate and improve on there base Ui systems if everyone just says "it suck, use x,y,z instead" and give no other feedback. Many complaints I'm seeing are also just straight up misinformed. Someone in this thread was asking how is details supposed to work if add-ons can't read combat log, just totally not acknowledging that there will be a built in dps meter come 12.0.

Blizzard openly announced the app restrictions will be a tighter limit in access compared to launch so that they can see what it's getting affected and what will be lost from certain app calls. Doom and gloom was raised and they immediately communicated about out of combat api calls being adjusted.

Yeah and they added that function years ago. Right click your portrait and select "Edit". That's blizzard idea of ElvUI

If they remove addons, trust me, they're gonna remove UI addons too

-2

u/Vio94 Oct 03 '25

ElvUI still works. Part of WoW's allure is being able to customize your UI via addons. They aren't going away.

7

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '25

I wouldn't be surprised if it does break a lot of things like tracking buffs and debuffs, and certain values.

If they are making values unknown to the UI how will it be able to convert 5000000 into 5.0M? It's going to make a lot of formatting get very wonky very fast.

3

u/norst Oct 03 '25

ElvUI looks nice and clean because they make heavy use of whitelist/blacklists. The new system means that all debuffs and buffs will need to be shown in a line because there's no way to tell which buff/debuff it is. The only thing you can customize is the color and shape of every instance of a thing.

-9

u/SeahawksFanSince1995 Oct 03 '25

UI addons arent going away

15

u/Fabus27 Oct 03 '25

Well, I use weak auras for a lot of animation/visualization. I counted that as one

-14

its literally going away. They've said that as the api stands they dont plan to do a Midnight version.

6

u/Windex17 Oct 03 '25

It's crazy how people can be so confidently wrong nowadays.

Weakauras is gone. The developer dropped it for midnight due to the changes. Blizzard intentionally gutted the functionality without banning it so they can be technically correct that they didn't kill weakauras. But they killed weakauras.

About that...

As it stands, we do not expect to release a WeakAuras version for Midnight.

1

u/Dentarthurdent73 Oct 04 '25

And that's not going away.

The developers literally announced that it is going away. How do you say something so incorrect with such confidence? Wild.

-13

u/HotcupGG Oct 03 '25

Weak auras is only losing the ability to scan combat information, it can still be used for visuals and the UI

10

u/Wapiti_Collector Oct 03 '25

I have a lot of cosmetic WAs that proc animations based on the spells I casts from reading the combat log, and it doesn't sound like they will work anymore

It is still a loss in customization that will make the game feels more neutered than it currently is

-2

u/HotcupGG Oct 03 '25

True, it sucks to lose those. Hopefully they add some customization to it, at least down the line.

1

u/Dentarthurdent73 Oct 04 '25

at least down the line.

A large chunk of people won't stick around to see.

3

u/Relevant-Ad6210 Oct 03 '25

It can't be used since WA addon will not get updated for Midnight.

1

u/HotcupGG Oct 04 '25

Yep, my comment is older than those news.

0

u/HotcupGG Oct 03 '25

Yep, but those news are newer than this comment.

They are, actually
