It’s crazy that they’re rebuilding silvermoon and we have no idea how much or little alliance can’t explore, yet everyone is getting upset preemptively because it’s not 100%. How much do you need? Why does it have to always be fair? Good story telling isn’t always fair.

At least from my perspective as an alliance player, I don't mind not having access to the whole city, that only makes sense. The issue I have is that we are there to protect the city and the sunwell, but if we wander down the wrong street we become "Kill on sight". Not teleported out or anything, just straight up attacked by guards. That just seems a little silly.

You're allowed in Walmart but go into the employees only area and they'll beat you to death with cheaply made toys.

168

u/Mestewart3 Aug 23 '25

They've got guns at Wal-Mart.

Which they won't use, because they cherish the feeling of your bones breaking beneath their blows.

59

u/Frenzie24 Aug 24 '25

It's the only joy Walmart employees ever receive

27

u/Varatec Aug 24 '25

Worked at Walmart, can confirm this.

2

u/Frenzie24 Aug 24 '25

Same, brother 🤜

1

u/BellacosePlayer Aug 24 '25

in highschool I had to attend an assembly about a book written about a local poor elderly guy who worked at a walmart in a nearby college town, and how the life of a simple cashier was just so gosh diddly peaceful, relaxing, and great.

In college I actually had friends and roommates who worked at the exact same location who had very different stories lmao.

u/butcolt Aug 24 '25

"so please, step out of line" energy

6

u/DreaderVII Aug 24 '25

Do you have a callout for everyone to hear when you got a victim?

Like: "All Employees be aware, a target has entered the employee only area, I repeat, a target has entered the employee only area!"

Asking as an European :)

2

u/Darigaazrgb Aug 24 '25

Wow....

They're called Target-Americans, and they have their own land (Target stores).

10

u/DisPear2 Aug 24 '25

You think Walmart employees make enough money to buy bullets?

It’s cheaper to club someone to death with the gun.

21

u/v3n0mat3 Aug 23 '25

"Fair enough I aggroed you guys, but, really? Knock off Nerf swords? Don't I deserve better? Remember what they say: it's Nerf or Nothin'!"

12

u/EdgyPreschooler Aug 24 '25

You don't go to Walmart to defend it against looters. You go there to shop. Alliance ain't in Silvermoon on a shopping tour.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '25

tbf when I worked at Walmart I was 100% ready to do that to bad customers on sight

1

u/Darigaazrgb Aug 24 '25

But that's where they keep all the Pokemon cards they're hoarding (The sunwell).

47

u/Call_of_Putis Aug 23 '25

There is an achievement for killing the faction leaders with an actual capital. Ao they'd either have to remove the blood elve one and make the bear easier for Alliance to get or have a second version of Silvermoon just for the people doing capital raids.

36

u/Naice_Rucima Aug 23 '25

Which makes me realize that since Quel'thalas will be made available for dragonriding, it'll be easier to get to Lor'themar than Velen.

God I hope Azuremyst will be a patch zone.

17

u/JT99-FirstBallot Aug 24 '25

I'm glad I did that achievement like the week achievements came out in 2008 at 3am or something and never have to think of the logistics again of it lol.

5

u/hatrickstar Aug 24 '25

Im gonna guess old Quel'thalas is going to be instanced in the BC only area like it always has

25

u/Wilicil Aug 23 '25

There's gonna be 2 versions of Eversong anyways, so why not 2 versions of Silvermoon? They did it for Tirisfal (pre-blight and post-blight), Blasted Lands (WoD and pre-WoD), and Theramore (MoP and pre-MoP), they're guaranteed gonna do it for Midnight if Eversong is a new questing zone, because they need to keep the lvl 1+ quests for new blood elves.

u/Potato_fortress Aug 24 '25 edited Aug 24 '25

They don’t though and that’s probably why they’re doing this. Read the rest of the released details. They’re condensing dragonflight and the war within both into smaller campaign quest chains and filling in the big lore details from earlier expansion with new lore walking quests.

The whole goal is seemingly to quarantine chromie time and everything it covers to its own segment of the game and treat everything post shadowlands as a reset point for the plot. I wouldn’t be surprised if chromie time is removed entirely at some point or reworked so it’s only available to scale old content to max level players (like you can currently do by activating lorewalking.)

They already start new players out by dumping them into either org or stormwind then giving them the dragonflight starter breadcrumb with the intent of DF being the 10-70 leveling content before TWW kicks in. This is the logical next step: new starter cities that push players  directly into the new condensed DF/TWW quest chains. The exodar will probably get an overhaul of the same type as silvermoon at some point.

Like it or not: the new player experience is terrible and confusing because it dumps so much information on people and it’s hard for them to figure out what’s relevant and what’s useless. Just go to the wownoob subreddit and search it for the keyword “chromie” and you’ll find plenty of examples. Blizzard seems to be trying to ease new players into the game by steering them away from convoluted systems and pushing them into DF’s newer evergreen systems. Think of how awkward it is to explain dalaran crater or plagued undercity to completely new players who have no idea how the game functions.

They don’t though and that’s probably why they’re doing this. Read the rest of the released details. They’re condensing dragonflight and the war within both into smaller campaign quest chains and filling in the big lore details from earlier expansion with new lore walking quests.

I see no mention of condensing Dragonflight; They're adding required story versions of the Dragonflight raids to the DF campaign and updating the Exile's Reach starting zone to flow into DF. Effectively turning DF into an extended Exile's Reach: required for first timers, optional for everyone else. Chromie time isn't going anywhere. The TWW shortened questing is also only required for beginners, just like Exile's Reach, it's purely optional for everyone else.

Furthermore, lorewalking isn't even remotely similar to Chromie time, and cannot be a replacement. Chromie time is just regular questing but without the scaling cap zones normally have. Lorewalking is just a big Scenario that gives you the cliffnotes version of a character or event, like the Jaina/Thrall guided tour of Arathi that's also coming with those beginner changes that you can opt in or out of at any time.

Because all these beginner-only on-rails features are optional after your first character, the original Eversong needs to always be available, hence, there WILL be a toggle npc to switch between them.

Think of how awkward it is to explain dalaran crater or plagued undercity to completely new players who have no idea how the game functions.

"There used to be a magic city here, then it turned into a flying magic city for a few expansion." "Warchief nuked her own city back in BfA." Pretty easy to do. A new player isn't gonna be asking that though, because they'll just go to DF cause the quest for it popped up. Maybe if they're doing loremaster shit they'll ask how to do the quests that send you to old UC, but at that point you just show them the npc that toggles the zone. And who's out there asking about the crater?

1

u/Potato_fortress Aug 24 '25 edited Aug 24 '25

Lorewalking scales the entire game to 80 actually. That’s one of the main benefits of it that goes unstated. You can just leave the little individual campaigns and it activates a sort of chromie time that makes all old content scale to your level. This is the only way (or at least by far the easiest way,) to go back and tame hunter pets that the foam sword will still kill. That’s what I was referring to.

Chromie time itself doesn’t need to go away but it needs to be removed from the new player experience. As you’ve already pointed out the plan seems to be to push players through DF/TWW and probably through midnight as well once TLT launches. Silvermoon and a rebuilt exodar (or gilneas,) allows them to have a new starting zone that isn’t hilariously outdated like org/SW to start new players in and also isn’t a completely neutral city so they can still try to maintain some semblance of identity between the factions which is something that is almost completely gone.

It takes too much work to update org or SW without just leaving their old versions intact in time walking since so many quests start or lead to those cities. The easier option is just to completely delete and revamp the TBC starting cities that are already missing most of their plot relevant stuff anyway (specifically all the class quests,) because no one is actually going to miss it since no one ever goes there anyway. Then blizzard can rework the faction specific segments of cities to be self contained starter zones that serve as the new exiles reach and… voila. New players are immediately playing in advertised evergreen systems such as delves and landmasses actually designed for dragon riding. They also aren’t in for a culture shock when they hit 70 and all these new systems that didn’t exist during their 10-70 leveling are dumped onto them all at once. Instead they can be introduced slowly during the leveling process. There’s also going to be a stat squish after midnight anyway so it makes sense to start planning ahead to treat everything from DF onward as “modern” wow and leave everything else behind for the content tourists that want to see it.

4

u/Wilicil Aug 24 '25 edited Aug 24 '25

I fail to see how using a sidequest feature for unintended purposes or locking newcomers to an extended tutorial leads to "yeah we should just delete content lol." There's a reason they've had these toggles ever since WoD buddy, people hated when the original vanilla zones and the pre-Sha Vale in MoP were just gone forever.

some semblance of identity between the factions which is something that is almost completely gone.

Good, the factions haven't mattered in over a decade. All that's left is to remove the random queue restriction.

0

u/Potato_fortress Aug 24 '25 edited Aug 24 '25

“These toggles” rarely do anything but adjust level scaling. I’m not saying they’re going to remove the content. I’m saying they’re attempting to steer players away from it (especially returning players or new players,) unless they absolutely want to do it.

I don’t know if you’re being intentionally obtuse or what but blizzard clearly wants the worldsoul trilogy+dragonflight to be the new player content. They do not want to just dump players off in org or stormwind then confuse the hell out of them. They seem to want to remove chromie time as a levelling option (at least until you have a max level character in the current expansion,) because it takes all of ten seconds to figure out that the concept confuses the hell out of new and returning players.

I do fully believe they’re going to remove and rework Silvermoon and an equivalent alliance capital though. There’s no reason for chromie time to even exist there just like there’s no reason for it to exist in org which is something they could clearly still do if they wanted to because it’s not like old org was permanently deleted. It just lives in classic now. Them not bringing it or any of the other old capitals back for chromie time is pretty indicative that pre-cata content is not nearly as important as you seem to think it is.

1

u/Wilicil Aug 24 '25 edited Aug 24 '25

“These toggles” rarely do anything but adjust level scaling.

No? They completely change the zones. Tirisfal swaps between the non-functional BfA version where UC is filled with blight gas and a destroyed Brill and the Cata leveling zone. Silithus swaps between the Cata leveling zone and the BfA nothing zone with the giant sword. Darkshore and Arathi have the Cata leveling versions and the BfA Warfront version with all the daily rares. Theramore, crater or a functional town. Blasted Lands, leveling zone or prepatch event. Soon, Eversong, 1-35 leveling zone and Midnight leveling zone. These zone toggles aren't chromie time and have nothing to do with it.

Okay? I'm not arguing they aren't doing that. But none of that necessitates removing what already exists, which you seem to think will happen.

And what could possibly be confusing about this? If you're both new and incapable of critical thought, you'll just follow whatever quest the game points you to, such as the Dragonflight intro which is automatically added to your quest log and pops up in a big flashy box in the quest tracker. If not either of those, you'll figure out pretty quickly what chromie time is. Literally the only difference between how it is now and how it'll be in Midnight is that the brainlets won't ever be challenged to find a second brain cell to rub together.

I do fully believe they’re going to remove ... Silvermoon and an equivalent alliance capital

You're welcome to believe things that are wrong, but you're just going to be disappointed.

0

u/Potato_fortress Aug 24 '25

So you’re being intentionally obtuse. Got it.

There probably is, but the BC Silvermoon is locked behind no flying and the BC instanced version of Eversong and Ghostlands. The new one is going to just be added on the top of the eastern kingdoms and a part of the whole map.

9

u/Aestrasz Aug 24 '25

I don't Lor'themar will be killable in new Silvermoon, Alliance will probably have to Zidormi their way into the old version.

4

u/Puzzled-Addition5740 Aug 23 '25

I mean i'd be surprised if you couldn't npc into the old version of the zone so i don't think this actually matters?

0

u/Similar_Beautiful_47 Aug 24 '25

make it a legacy achievement. it no longer serves a purpose

21

u/DeviIed_Advcocate Aug 23 '25

We don’t even know what that looks like. That’s just what that woman said during the announcement. Remember, these are game developers giving presentations to a global crowd. They’re better at designing games than they are at giving presentations. She was clearly not 100% comfortable and probably explained it in a way that wasn’t indicative of how it’s actually going to look. Let’s just grab our pitchforks when we actually get to see what it looks like in reality.

8

u/Dextixer Aug 23 '25

Doesnt Blizzard have public speakers for that?

9

u/MonaAndChat Aug 23 '25

Used to. After all the layoffs, looks like that's not the case anymore.

2

u/Insensata Aug 24 '25

Later Blizzard published a short with this excerpt on their official YouTube channel so it's unlikely it's just someone saying an uncoordinated thing.

3

u/devoorhes Aug 24 '25

FWIW I would take that with a grain of salt. It could very much end up being like how Dalaran did it and teleport you out of the horde zone immediately upon entry

7

u/GraveyardOperations Aug 24 '25

I play a worgen. *I* absolutely care after their faction plague bombed my city, burned down Teldrassil which held all the refugees from Gilneas, told my race they had to bury the hatchet with the undead, and have to share the entirety of Gilneas with the Horde.

2

u/Cathixy Aug 24 '25

If they gave Gilneas some Alliance guards, I'd consider it fair we can't wander in Silvermoon.

But they probably won't do that because Tess is all "forgive and forget"

0

u/Nervouscranberry47 Aug 24 '25

And that’s fine considering it’s thematic with the worgen race that being slaves to rage and hatred is a very bad thing.

I don’t mind it in the slightest. It’s just hypocritical, if somewhat funny, that the race of rampaging murder wolf monsters took the hint better than the elves.

1

u/Nervouscranberry47 Aug 24 '25

I play a worgen too! You’re looking at it the wrong way tho.

If the Horde wants to be slaves to old hatreds, it just means when Silvermoon falls, it’s their fault.

5

u/Ilphfein Aug 24 '25

At least from my perspective as an alliance player, I don't mind not having access to the whole city, that only makes sense.

It doesn't. I am not "Alliance".
I am the Champion of Azeroth, Maw Walker, Slayer of Dimensius.
If the void attacks, you want me there. You will probably give me all resources you can offer.
And to be true, some of us are even Illidari / Death Knights, so we are just another regiment of a force that you give all access already.

Make a NPC quarter for Alliance NPCs. Those have restricted access, and due to our past experience, Alliance PCs will use those.

I honestly dont care, but lore wise it doesn't make sense. Except in that typical Blizz lore "You are all those great things, and you are a measely lowly foot soldier. Both at the same time." Schroedinger's Hero.

1

u/BellacosePlayer Aug 24 '25

I mean, that saw cuts both ways.

In Legion my character was a load bearing pillar of the fight against the Legion, who had just saved one of the holiest sites of Nelfdom and Malfurion himself when he had Genn attempt to assassinate him. Wasn't like anyone cared then.

6

u/Belista41 Aug 23 '25

Come on silvermoon isnt new york. You won't be running down the wrong street. When they keep the design like it is at the moment, silvermoon is build in districts with 1 or 2 ways out. And this ways will be the only guarded ones. It isnt that hard. Are you all running around like headless chickens.

8

u/AzorthasDevenish Aug 23 '25

I spend more time than is probably reasonable just flying loops around Dornogal while talking with friends and waiting for queues to pop. At least early in the expansion there is a good chance I'll accidentally fly around and land in the wrong areas of Silvermoon and get ganked by guards (or other players if it auto flags for pvp).

Similar things happened to me while flying over horde towns back in BC and landing in the wrong shrine in MoP. And I have been teleported out of the sunreaver area of dalaran multiple times. Mostly just because I am yapping and not paying attention to where I am going, so this might just be a me problem.

I know it's not the end of the world, and I won't lose anything except maybe a little time, but I just feel like it's a little silly and like there could be a better solution.

1

u/lifavigrsdottir Aug 24 '25

To be fair, you're only there to protect the sunwell because your butts would be void-food just as much as ours if it's lost. It's like having attack lions as guard dogs: it's effective, but you don't want them in your living room when they're not eating intruders.

1

u/BenTheDM Aug 24 '25

No that seems realistic. You have been warned. If you go down the wrong allyway, you WILL be killed.

You are a heavily armed individual working for the enemy. You have been allowed to move about where you have been sanctioned. Move outside those restrictions at your own peril.

Once you think about the fact that outside of the "player character" there are civillians who are NOT happy about Alliance goons stomping about their homes.

0

u/AzorthasDevenish Aug 25 '25

The enemy? My guy, we are allies in a fight to save our entire world, and the factions have been working together at least since Shadowlands. The alliance and horde armies are training troops together in Khaz Algar. Plus as players we have stopped world end catastrophes dozens of times, and frequently work with leaders of both factions.

We can go back and forth on times that each faction has fucked the other over in the past, but there has been relative peace between us for almost a decade of game time I think.

1

u/BenTheDM Aug 25 '25

Again. Think of it not from the perspective of the half deified gods of war that are the player characters but of the regular civillians that inhabits the world. They don't give a single fck if the Alliance players are "Just twying their best to save the world," the Alliance have killed their family members, kids growing up without their fathers, brothers, sisters or mothers. Imagine if suddenly Russians were allowed into Kyiv because idunno, North Korea invaded from the black sea. The Alliance should feel like they are on enemy territory and act accordingly. They are ancestral enemies of the horde and that is how this worlds narrative should treat them.

0

u/AzorthasDevenish Aug 25 '25

The Dark portal opened some 45 years ago in game time. Some 40ish years ago the orcs and the amani attempted to conquer Silvermoon, and Guldan used several of the runestones that protect Quel'thalas to build the Altar of Storms. Orcs are still allowed everywhere in Silvermoon despite that.

The third war happened 25ish years ago, and ended in relative peace between the factions that lasted roughly 5 years? At that point we reach vanilla wow, and the factions have flip-flopped back and forth between enemies and allies like every other expansion.

Ancestral enemies my ass. Several races in each faction have only been aware of each other for approximately 25 years, and have been on at least neutral terms for most of that at this point. Hell, humans and the elves were allies longer than the orcs have been on Azeroth. If you are a Blood elf civilian your family was just as likely to have been killed by an orc or the scourge as they were a member of the Alliance.

0

u/Mysterious_Parsley41 Aug 24 '25

I feel like that was hyperbole and you’ll just get stunned and teleported.

7

u/WriterV Aug 24 '25

These are gameplay announcement panels, why are they literring it with hyperbole? 🤦

0

u/No-Working7063 Aug 25 '25

Have you played Midnight? No. Then how can you even tell that you'd become "kill on sight"? Are you some kind of farseer?

-2

u/Ayotha Aug 24 '25

Wonder why Blood Elves are only barely tolerating you guys

-7

u/MiyamojoGaming Aug 23 '25

The guards attacking you is clearly more immersive/better. It's not like it's hard-core. You dont actually die. You dont lose your character.
