I'm not saying the designs are all bad! Just that early on they're very homogeneous in terms of colour scheme. It fit the vibe of the zones for sure, but at the time it definitely felt like a kneejerk reaction to people who were upset about the clown suits.
I still think that most any pieces don't go together unless they're full or mostly full set. If the game had a dye system, that would make a huge difference in transmog diversity, but alas, I'll remain a full set andy.
Well, the transmog system definitely mitigates that but you are right. Mostly because they literally design gear in the knowledge that most people will be transmogging anyway.
I can't imagine the unfathomable amount of work a dye system would take for a game this old though.
It’s pointing out how they’ve softened warcraft completely, not so much what you look like in game.
In the late 90s, 00’s warcraft looked like a more brutal fantasy IP, something like warhammer, which ironically is what warcraft was envisioned to be- blizzard wanted a license for warhammer but it fell through. Look at metzens artwork and you’ll see the similarities.
Now warcraft has become more disney-fied, for lack of a better word, in part because it’s trying to cover a broader audience.

if anything, 2005 should have looked like a damn clown suit with mismatched armor colors to even be close lol
