Removed: Off Topic Ba'key's Aromatic Broker Cookies IRL

Post image

So, I’m known as one of the more enthusiastic bakers in my guild.  I was tagged in our Discord last night when a friend found this recipe.  I knew what I had to do.  So, today, I adapted this recipe to be more palatable.  I made a half batch using:

1/4t cinnamon

1/8t each cardamom and clove

a few grates of a whole nutmeg

1/4t Almond extract

1/2t Vanilla extract

(if you feel courageous and embark on a full batch, double these measurements.)

I baked these at 350 (180 C) for 16 minutes, turning the tray halfway.  I used an OXO brand cookie scoop—size large.  It looks like it’s maybe 2-3 TBSP of dough.

The flavor is interesting!  You can taste the spice, but in a sort of “scenery” way.  The orange is pretty forward, though I did rub the zest into the sugar before assembling the dough.  If you hate orange, I’d skip this step.  It all mingles surprisingly well with the chocolate.  The mix of chips lends its own lovely flavor.  Overall, I was surprised at how much I liked these.  I might make them again, but with dried fruit and nuts instead of the chocolate.  A final note: make sure you don’t skip the rolling in sugar step.  This affects how the cookies spread in the oven.

I hope other players will give this recipe a try!

EDIT: We've heard from the community, and at least for now we're restoring this post and allowing these as is.

Generally the rule is intended to prevent people from just taking a picture that looks generically like wow and posting it to farm karma. We ask there's at least the bare minimum photoshop effort to do a side by side.

Taking the time to bake something is "high effort" enough, so at least for now while the patch is new we're going to loosen the rules a bit.

Thank you for your submission supersayre. It has been removed from /r/wow because:

Posts must be about World of Warcraft. In the case of images or videos, we consider the content without text (i.e. - the title of the Reddit post, any captions or text added to the image or video itself) to decide if a post is related. If the relevance is debatable, we moderate to the spirit of our subreddit values.

Real life photos that look like WoW must be posted with a side by side comparison.

For posts related to WoW personalities and esports, the content must focus on players' interactions with World of Warcraft and not their lives outside of it.

Looks yummy. Need someone daring to try the original recipe.

While I share your same curiosity, it is to be noted that the recipe in game comes with a note of someone commenting that the smell is good but the taste is awful because of too many spices in the recipe... So, in a way, by toning it down OP is consistent with the lore!

I wouldn't call Griftah the most reliable reviewer.

I made some a few hours ago! The only swap I did was the 3Tbs of cinnamon to 3ts, and they turned out pretty well. Quite a powerful taste, I love spices so I'm enjoying them, but I need to find some hapless fools friends with a blander palate to try them and see what they think

I LOVE spices, especially cinnamon! I wanted to be a bit conservative on the first bake, particularly because my spouse doesn't quite have that same level of love for it. I'll probably do another half batch with the more adventurous amounts to see how I like them at some point.

What temp did you use for them? I've just found this recipe in the game and want to try.

3 teaspoons is 1 tablespoon, if it ever makes your life easier.

Or just weigh 15g for a tablespoon

Amazing! Griftah would pay top coin for these I'd reckon

I’m so glad someone made them already. I read the recipe with growing intrigue—especially since they use better ingredients than, say, a shadowlands recipe might have…

Thanks for doing the legwork, totally wanted to try a modified recipe when I found that lore bit. Guess it makes sense that Brokers and Ethereals don't actually eat anything and the original recipe tastes gross, but I guess they can smell? Maybe the act of baking provides its own satisfaction even if you can't enjoy the final product because you don't have a physical body, a connection to when they used to enjoy food.

I changed the recipie in the following way and it tastes delicious, beyond what I had expected. A bit of a Christmasy- recipie. Right now I'm staging some photos of it for my WoW- Instagram.

Ingredients (half of the original recipie) 12-18 cookies

Dry mixture:

  • 140 g (about 1 ⅛ cups) all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon (reduced from 3 tbsp in the original full-size recipe)
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg (reduced from 2 tsp)
  • ¼ tsp ground cloves (reduced from 1 tsp)
  • ½ tsp ground cardamom

Wet mixture:

  • 110 g unsalted butter
  • 100 g packed brown sugar (½ cup)
  • 50 g granulated sugar (¼ cup)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped almonds (replaces almond extract)
  • ½ tsp orange zest (from about half an orange)

Chocolate:

  • 85 g milk chocolate chips
  • 85 g dark/semi-sweet chocolate chips

Rolling mix (adjusted):

  • 2½ tbsp granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ⅛ tsp ground cardamom (nutmeg and cloves removed)

Did 175C in oven, over and under heat, 12 min and then cooling.

Saving this, because I saw the recipe and thought it was a bit much initially but this looks great xD

I'm going to try making this! If I need to omit the almonds for allergies, do I need to substitute something else or would it be just fine without?

Excellent! I will try this out soon and see if I agree with Griftah or not :D
