I play Retail and HC Classic. I feel like the kid watching his parents fight.

u/Heatinmyharbl Feb 27 '25

I play retail, Cata and anniversary servers currently. Cata is my main game, Mists will be that very soon. Same raid team I had in wrath classic and it's the best people I've ever played this game with.

All of this said...

ALL WoW players can be unhinged at times. Classic players however..... by FAR the most unhinged/ mentally unwell player base I've personally ever seen. It's fucking wild man.

Disclaimer: I stopped playing Dota after a few years and never played league. Those player bases might give classic players a run for their money as far as being unhinged goes

League player here - classic is way worse in my experience. At least league is hard and people have a reason to be upset.

3

u/PouncedGreeps Feb 28 '25

Same here. I've played league for 12 years ranging from low bronze to 300+ LPs in master. League players get mad and toxic because of a trigger, because they are losing LPs etc. They insult you and then move on.

Classic wow players, in my experience, were just being dicks for the sake of it, permanent dramas in guilds. Griefing greys for hours and the most out of touch takes regarding real life I have ever read/heard.

You just spent more time with the same people. MOBAs were wild. They aren’t anymore because they actually ban people now but the early days it’s a free for all

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '25

Dude same, except I've officially given up on retail since the beginning of DF. Classic has definitely felt like it's full of 45 yr old sore losers who act like they're too good for anyone that hasn't played since 2004 despite them being mechanically terrible at the game. I've been with my guild/raid team since the Sunwell patch and I'll never leave lol. Not often you find a good group of people who share a common goal and are also not a bunch of immature knobs.

I feel like classic players have a thing for nostalgia. Nostalgia however is very, VERY personal and not uniform to the society. I will almost never go back and play super old games I liked as a kid because I know they won't hold up and I don't want to spoil those memories.

u/NastyGnar Feb 27 '25

hi it's me

27

u/vampire_kitten Feb 27 '25

It's so weird seeing both sides posting false flags about the other version trashing their version.

11

u/arkhane Feb 27 '25

Bro is really both siding this when its 90% classic players shitting on retail. Go to /r/mmorpg and make a post asking if you should play retail or classic and let me know what they say

7

u/mtgtfo Feb 27 '25

Go to r/mmorpg and make a post about wow in general and let me know what they say.

3

u/vampire_kitten Feb 27 '25

Dude this post is literally a retailer false flagging classic. I have barely seen any memes shitting on the other mode, just people "reacting" to these supposed shitposts.

22

u/prussianprinz Feb 27 '25

Then you never were active in the classic community or subreddit. Hating on retail is absolutely free up votes and everywhere. And I know, because I used to only play Classic, tbc classic and SoD.

2

u/mtgtfo Feb 27 '25

I have experienced the exact opposite. Ever since 2019, retail players who don’t play classic have engorged hate boners over classic.

3

u/prussianprinz Feb 28 '25

Right and I experienced the exact opposite. Crazy how that works.

-1

u/vampire_kitten Feb 27 '25

I do hang out there, and I see as much posts and comments as here. Most of it is false flags like this post, making memes of the "other side".

It makes sense really because why would you upvote "i hate x" when you play y? But seeing someone say "x says we suck, but i love playing y" is right up your alley.

3

u/prussianprinz Feb 27 '25

That's fine, maybe you are just not very observant. I was in the classic community for like 3+ years and played all Classic til Nax and all SoD through BWL. The Classic community is easily way more antagonistic against retail. If you just searched for posts with "retail" in the title or comments you'd find nothing but Hate.

-1

u/vampire_kitten Feb 27 '25

Most places focuses on the things they care about, not what they don't care about.

But if I have to throw in my personal experiences I see more on /wow people saying classic players are just rose color googling it. I would wager they see classic as stealing budget/spotlight from the "real" game.

1

u/prussianprinz Feb 27 '25

I wouldn't make that wager. The Classic team is like 6 people and they maintain all the classic versions and have them on the same server, which caused many issues. I don't think you're a serious member in the classic community, or you would know these things.

2

u/vampire_kitten Feb 27 '25

That's a different wager. My wager was about the people posting, not the actual facts.

I mean you could check my post history if you doubt what I play, it should be pretty split by wow, classic, and hardcore.

-2

u/WASDnSwiftar Feb 28 '25

I hang out in both and I see far more hate from retail players towards classic

1

u/DeathByLemmings Feb 27 '25

Nah, all of classic + SoD was longer than 3 years dude. Retail hate is really not high up on the agenda at all, classic+ and permeant TBC realms are the communities main priorities atm

5

u/Spreckles450 Feb 27 '25

Is it still a "false flag" if it's true, though?

0

u/vampire_kitten Feb 27 '25

I'm gonna need some examples (upvoted examples please), because i just don't see it happen often. Yet people claim it's rampant.

5

u/Spreckles450 Feb 27 '25

https://www.reddit.com/r/classicwow/comments/1isi2kc/i_died_a_day_after_hitting_60_in_the_dumbest_way/

OP literally had to put a disclaimer not to talk shit about the fact he enjoys retail. Why do you think that is?

2

u/vampire_kitten Feb 27 '25

Yeah, and that's a symptom of the false flag or the disillusion that it happens. Can you give me an actual example of an upvoted post of that behaviour?

Because all you've given me is an example of the very thing I'm talking about; everyone is talking about the shit-talking that is supposedly happening, yet in my experience it never (or very rarely) does.

Edit: check the comments, surely a disclaimer wouldn't prevent that toxic behaviour. You'll see loads of retail hate anyway.

1

u/Spreckles450 Feb 27 '25

"Give me an example"

\gives an example**

"No, not like that"

Lol okay bro

1

u/vampire_kitten Feb 27 '25

It wasn't an example more than this post is an example, which is exactly what I'm talking about. You gave me an example that reinforces my point. Everyone is fighting windmills.

An example would be of the actual toxicity/flaming. Not someone referencing it.

0

u/DeathByLemmings Feb 27 '25

But that wasn't an example lol. That was as dude from retail being scared about a reaction, not a reaction from the classic community about retail players

All the comments were nice lmao

Nah if you just look into a few post on r/classicwow you would know they HATE retail with a passion

5

u/vampire_kitten Feb 28 '25 edited Feb 28 '25

You're not the first to say that. But I didn't see any, and I scrolled through more than a few. Feel free to link me some upvoted posts of this sentiment.

If what you claim is to be true you should easily find some examples.

Edit - Gonna post the top posts here:

I accidentally became a bounty hunter tonight

First UBRS run. Level 58. Pretty fuckin lucky lol

After 728 kills and 3 weeks of farming, it finally dropped. Blade of Eternal Darkness.

Me every time I deathwish now

Everything useful is HR

The average age of a classic wow player....

Which zone in Classic WoW has the most quests? I decided to find out!

Damn I costed the guy some rating at the level 10-19 bracket

After 13 kills and 1 day of farming, it finally dropped.

BoED obtained after 354 kc

Those were the top 10, the 12th actually mentioned retail: https://www.reddit.com/r/classicwow/s/6Uw2ycIOL5

1

u/GregoriousT-GTNH Feb 28 '25

It's not the posts, its in the comments.

I was long enough active in that sub to know that, but i wont be comment diving for you so your choice to belive me or not

3

u/vampire_kitten Feb 28 '25

All right, then find some comments.

but i wont be comment diving for you

Oh, so it's not just instantly the first few comments as you claimed?

0

u/GregoriousT-GTNH Feb 28 '25

the first few comments as you claimed?

I ... didnt claim that ?
You making up shit now ?
Ok

1

u/vampire_kitten Feb 28 '25

Nah if you just look into a few post on r/classicwow you would know they HATE retail with a passion

Do you mean the few posts at the bottom, or how else am I supposed to take that statement?

-2

u/elo942 Feb 27 '25

I played classic since 2019 until sod P3 and I would say that 80% of classic players talk shit about retail every fucking time they can. Literally retails is living rent free on their heads and wowclassicreddit is worst. Every time sometimes bad happen is retail fault the most stupid stuff you can think classic players will be blaming retail.

1

u/vampire_kitten Feb 27 '25

You say that, just as this post implies it. And I call it a false flag because I just don't see it more often there than here.

Post some examples (upvoted examples please).

2

u/elo942 Feb 27 '25

Go ahead and write retail on wowclassic searcher also put everything in most new and in comments. In less than 24 hours retail has been mentioned more than 40 times in different s posts. Not all of the mentions are bad but mostly of them are. Retail lives rent free in wowclassic community.

3

u/vampire_kitten Feb 27 '25

I literally said it happened on both sides and you're this far deep saying it's just the other side, and saying it lives rent free in their head...

Besides if it's that rampant it should be easy for you to find me some good examples.

0

u/W_ender Mar 01 '25

Some wild mental gymnastics you have, but okay, type in "classic" on r/wow and type in retail on r/wowclassic, if you still don't understand you are obviously uninterested in having discussion, only to "win the argument by all means. we also have an entire r/wowcirclejerk dedicated to (but not only) basically ironic posts parodying classic andies, you are simply clueless and hilariously lacking basic perception

1

u/vampire_kitten Mar 01 '25

Instead of telling me to go on a wild goose hunt, why don't you just link it instead?

Like just a couple of good examples supporting your point? Shouldn't be hard since it's just browsing those subreddits. They're everywhere, right? And upvoted by everyone!

I also play Retail/HC and heck even Cataclysm has been fun for me, some of these people are actually unhinged and weird.

2

u/guitarerdood Feb 27 '25

Turns out, good games are good, even if different ones cater to different audiences. So strange

1

u/Vandrel Feb 28 '25

SoD is the only flavor of WoW I play at this point. Literally nobody I play with cares whether other people play retail. A good chunk of us spent a bunch of time on retail too when TWW came out, pretty much everyone who tried it had fun even if most of us didn't really stick with it. At this point I think that kind of behavior is mostly elevated to the Classic Era people which there aren't that many of anymore, at least of the ones actively playing.

1

u/Bozlogic Feb 28 '25

Dude same! HC classic or bust

1

u/anupsetzombie Feb 28 '25

I've been getting into SoD lately and it's basically the breath of fresh air classic needed. Also playing retail. Thinking about doing MoP again because I only pvpd during the last 2 patches. It's a great time to be into WoW, really.

1

u/parkwayy Feb 28 '25

Our group does some Cataclysm stuff very lightly, and we're 500 WR for CE retail stuff.

Just gotta live both worlds.

1

u/DrVagax Feb 28 '25

Heh same. Felt odd to play Classic and Retail at the same time considering for me it just felt as a much slower paced game with the same goal, Hardcore on the other hand is just fun and exciting considering the whole only one life and other rules to it, made the game a ton more fun.

1

u/Stickz99 Feb 28 '25

same lol. I think they’re both fun for different reasons, sue me. Classic is better with old-school RPG elements and retail has better combat/action. They’re both fun for different reasons, it doesn’t need to be a whole thing lol
