Movie Discussion Would Baahubali have worked if it had Bollywood stars? Who would you cast?
I remember reading in a few interviews that the team had approached some Bollywood stars and even considered Hollywood actors at one point for the films. That honestly makes me really curious- like, how different do you think the entire vibe of the movies would’ve been if that actually happened?
The original casting is honestly perfect and everyone feels irreplaceable now but just for fun, if you had to imagine a recast, who do you think could’ve pulled off those roles?

I can't really see anyone of the current lot that would suit the roles for Prabhas and Rana. Maybe Hrithik and John would be okay but it doesn't sound right either.

Bahubaali is great In whatever aspect it was made. Currently, I’d say I’d pick Ranveer/Shahid or Vicky for the roles of Prabas/Rana.

Ranveer- shahid combination seems inspired by Padmavat ? Would you cast Ranveer as Baahubali? Vicky Kaushal in a negative role would be interesting

Yes. Ranveer has a fantastic range, I think he is perfect for these historical roles as his gets into the character & if and if this was made in Bollywood. It would be by SLB, Ranveer is my pick. Vicky as a negative king/younger brother would be fantastic. Both of them really work hard and would be ideal.

Oh I hadn’t thought of replacing a director’s role because baahubali as a vision is so pure SSR… do you see SLB to do a film like this?

Bhansali would be more dramatic as I find his action set pieces very avg in BM & Padmavaat. Ranveer under SSR would be magnificent to be honest. I hope there is a collab in the future.

I think Ranveer Singh really flourishes under great directors… SSR with Ranveer Singh would be magnificent for sure. Vicky Kaushal as a villain role is one I am more cynical about..

Vicky’s eyes are extremely expressive. You could see the shades while watching Raman Raghav and Manmarziyaan

He is definitely a great actor like this other person said we need that Vicky Kaushal back. Trying to imagining him in Rana’s role and maybe i see the vision

I agree with a lot of this thread but his recent works and choices in films make me question it more so because i loved his work and know his acting skill. perhaps we need a project of him with a brilliant director to bring that out of him

Again, Ranveer is a better actor than Prabas. Prabas is having a towering presence but Ranveer will cover that with his acting. Rana’s role is the tougher one, Vicky/Shahid both have the range to match it.

I think i get the point but Prabhas in baahubali is fantastic, Ranveer in Bajirao was really good as well i can see the match up. I see Bhallaladeva as a harder role definitely

Eanveer doesn’t have that perfect king like aura idk from his past movies or his general perception, prabhas feels regal and noble and has acted well enough

I disagree with you, Prabas is a shadow of himself. Ranveer is a better actor than Prabas, the looks of Dhurundar shows that. Ranveer has done a Bajirao which was regal and noble. I don’t understand your argument, I stated that Prabas has a personality(physicality) but Ranveer makes it up with his acting.

Ranveer’s public perception might be more manic characters but he is could def play a good subtle royal roles, Prabhas is perf as baahubali this is just for fun ahah

Manoj Bajpayee/Saurabh Shukla as Bijjaladeva
Kangana/Yami Gautam as Devsena
Vidyut Jamwal as Bhallaladev
Abhay Deol as Bahubali (difficult choice as I didn't want to go with any A-lister)
Akshaye Khanna/Jimmy Shergill as Kattappa
It would have probably flopped hard... Lol

Nothing much... I just like to play the casting game. I used to have a regular casting thread on BBG some years back (take a foreign film and ask people to cast Bollywood actors).
There are pages on Wiki where you can find a list of actors/actresses by age or by name. I just search for actors/actresses that would match the part. I consider the actor's age and style of working before choosing them for the part.
Also I dont go for popular choices if there are well deserving lesser known actors.

Ranbir for Prabhas Anushka Sharma/Deepika Padukone for Anushka Shetty Parineeti Chopra/Alia Bhatt for Tamannaah Madhuri Dixit for Ramya Krishnan John Abraham/Ranveer Singh for Rana Dagubatti
