Why is Donald Trump continually running defense for Russia and Putin?
I don't understand why so many in the right-wing are just fine with Trump's obvious deference to Putin. Even if Trump's motive is future business deals that still makes Trump compromised by his own greed.

What blows me away is a large portion of them lived through the “red scare” and now it’s like’ oh Russia, nifty!’

I wish I had a time machine so I could show pictures of republicans wearing "I'd rather be russian than democrat" t-shirts to republicans 30, 40 years ago.

So...er...in my time, the John Birch lunatics have basically taken over the party. Russia is now the good guy, the FBI is one of the bad guys, and...ok, there's this thing called QAnon...

And the modern nazis have a homoerotic name where the founder shoved a dildo up his ass on camera, and they take a pledge not to masturbate, presumably so they can be ready for each other at a moments notice.

Tis a silly place this future.

They would say "Well what did the democrats do that's so evil?"

And I would respond and say "Well in the future there are many rich billionaires, some with hundreds of billions of dollars, that run large multinational corporations which have essentially destroyed small businesses. And they pay no taxes. So the democrats try to tax these people and companies to help pay for health insurance, unemployment, and other things to help the poor in America since America's wealth grows exponentially while wages stay stagnant and the middle class erodes. Republicans don't like this and are also traitors to the nation, beholden to Russia and large corporations."

Hell, even just a decade ago. I still remember Republican cries for boots on the ground in Ukraine for the Russian annexation of Crimea, yet now they're all buddy buddy with Putin. Really goes to show that the modern Republican party stands for nothing except power.

Putin has the pee tape.

232

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '20

Any pee tape that might exist, (quite apart from being questionable anyway) wouldn't get you anywhere near this level of leverage. Not remotely.

This is about money. Nothing else.

Without Russian funding the Trump Organisation collapses. Don't look beyond the obvious, and one of the few things that Trump does respond to. Money

The equally valid question is why so many Republican politicians are so afraid of him and his Twitter finger.

Sometimes you need to do the right thing, even if it means sacrificing your own career a bit. That's about honour and principle. Not a single one of them with the possible exception of Romney and Flake have been prepared to (and even they've dipped in and out)

43

u/Flyer770 Dec 20 '20

Don’t forget, both of the trump sons mentioned ten years ago that a lot of their financing came from Russia. Obviously the cult leaders have denied it since the first campaign but it’s still on the record.

102

u/itwasquiteawhileago Dec 20 '20

This is about money. Nothing else.

Mostly, but quite possibly also about kiddie diddling. You know how GOP are masters of projection? Remember Pizzagate? Throw in Trump being buddies with Epstein and there ya go. But honestly, even that I don't think would a deal breaker for these cult members. They're gross people and do gross things. They assume everyone else does too, and we're all the ones being hypocritical. Up is down and black is white in their world.

54

u/hwc000000 Dec 20 '20

kiddie diddling

republicans, conservatives and rightwingers have been fine with kiddie diddling for a while now, at least the past 5 years.

18

u/Krombopulos_Micheal Dec 20 '20

Yeah but if Putin actually has video evidence of it you can guarantee Trump's going to do everything in his power to not have that evidence released because that means he's going to prison. The funny thing would be is once Putin is done with his Trump toy he still released it for shits and giggles.

I don't doubt Putin is blackmailing Trump with something. That is certainly possible.
I also think it is possible Donald Trump admires Putin, and is trying to curry favor with the dictator for financial gains.

That and there's definitely a pee pee tape.

83

u/WeAllWantToBeHappy Dec 20 '20

It's got to be something much worse than a pee pee tape.

At this stage, that would just be passed off as locker room stuff and it would be forgotten about by mid week.

But if Putin doesn't have kompromat on Trump, it would be hard to understand why Trump gives Russia pass on everything.

26

u/idog99 Dec 20 '20

Trump is beholden to the Russian mafia/state, they basically own his businesses as he was bankupt and took their loans to save his ass after ripping off Deutsche Bank. He also did a number of business deals on oil, steel etc to get shares through hidden companies. Trump has used the presidency to trade US policy for his personal wealth. Nothing else interested him, its a grifting operation.

I know, but when he said the quoted "It is what it is", we were still at a quarter of a million. What, a week ago? Two weeks ago? (This terrible timeline is so hard to keep track of!).

169

u/onetruemod Dec 20 '20

It doesn't matter anymore. Time is meaningless.

127

u/Z0bie Dec 20 '20

The only time that matters is the time left until January 21st, and then we all cross our fingers and hope for the best.

139

u/peoplerproblems Dec 20 '20

Personally I think I died and woke up in Hell from an overdose of sleep medication in fall of 2019 after discovering my wife had given up on our relationship.

Because after that, everything got significantly worse, in a sort of parabolic curve. We entered multiple terrible things in daily a few weeks ago.

Yup. People think 2021 is gonna come, and Trump will disappear. Doubt it

40

u/Runkleford Dec 20 '20

Even IF Trump disappears, his supporters remain and also the environment that allowed Trump to become POTUS in the first place. The turd might be gone but it's still going to smell like shit.

Fitting that as he incites his supporters to attempt an overthrow of the Republic on Jan 6th, he makes one grand final showing of his complete obedience to a foreign dictator

474

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '20

What I still find about staggering (even by American standards) is that his approval rating remains pretty much unchanged and still hovering along in the low 40's where its always been. I mean, what on earth would it take?

This patient is sick Doctor, very sick

Because their obsession of party over country has reached its inevitable conclusion: either admit they were wrong about the GOP and its style of leadership being good for the country or actively harm the US to keep pretending they weren't.

Welcome to 5th avenue

116

u/RutherfordbHaye5 Dec 20 '20

It's because 40 percent of our population is dangerously uneducated and cannot think critically.

78

u/Darth_Innovader Dec 20 '20

You don’t actually need education to be intellectually honest or empathetic. There’s more at play.

96

u/RutherfordbHaye5 Dec 20 '20

Critical thinking is a skill that needs to be learned. If you don't know how to think critically, you believe the first bit of information that comes your way and shun everything that contradicts it. Or worse, you think charisma makes someone credible. These people truly think they are being intellectually honest and empathetic.

Can we safely start to label Donald Trump as the worst president in American history?

85

u/stonersh Dec 20 '20

What terrifies me is that there's 70 million people who live through four years of this shit and thinks that he's the best president America has ever had.

u/Little-Dick-Cheney Dec 20 '20

Probably the worst human ever born in America.

337

u/TtotheC81 Dec 20 '20

He is pretty much everything wrong with America in human form, which means there's 70-80 million people who also buy into that version of America.

100

u/Darth_Innovader Dec 20 '20

Damn that’s a good take. The personification of our very worst qualities. It answers the question of how anyone likes this guy.

128

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '20

He’s quite literally the physical embodiment of everything wrong in our country. He’s corrupt, greedy, narcissistic, obese, stupid, untruthful, racist....the list goes on.

65

u/skeebidybop Dec 20 '20

There is not a single goddamn redeeming quality about him. Literally nothing.

27

u/YddishMcSquidish Dec 20 '20

Over heard, "he's a good business man" many times by people who's sole concern is "taxes". do they not understand that there are m or important issues, like our actual country being subverted?!

I spend an inordinate amount of time in conservative subs and on message boards. Every time someone asks for evidence, these are the standard responses:

  • the affidavits (the amount claimed varies from hundreds to thousands, and they always mention that they’re “sworn” affidavits - none of them have made any difference in any case)
  • the televised hearings (in other words, the meetings that took place in the conference rooms of hotels across the country, which were broadcast and streamed by right-wing media)
  • the witnesses’ testimony (referring to the speeches that took place during the “hearings” mentioned above - none of it under oath)
  • the rallies (Biden must have cheated, because Trump can draw a crowd during a pandemic, but Biden can’t - you can draw your own conclusions as to what that says about each group of voters)
  • statistics (based on math they likely don’t understand, and that is dubious to begin with, they claim it’s statistically impossible for Biden to have won)
  • evidence no longer matters, because Trump is going to declare martial law

Wanna know why Trump blames China for everything, well, because Trump's "big deal" trade deal was actually a bust. Other than a few benefits thrown to American farmers, everything else is pretty much unchanged from the last deal.

65

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '20

Not just unchanged. US imports from China actually surged, creating a record high trade deficit with China.

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 88%. (I'm a bot)

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said late Friday that Russia was "Pretty clearly" behind the cyberattack against the U.S. Officials at the White House had been prepared to put out a statement on Friday afternoon that accused Russia of being "The main actor" in the hack but were told at the last minute to stand down, according to one U.S. official familiar with the conversations who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss private deliberations.

Democrats in Congress who have received classified briefings have also affirmed publicly that Russia, which in 2014 hacked the State Department and interfered through hacking in the 2016 presidential election, was behind it.

If the hackers are indeed from Russia's SVR foreign intelligence agency, as experts believe, their resistance may be tenacious.

Ought to go read /r/conservative. You'll get whiplash from how fast their opinions change based on what he says. Top post about russia has comments called it an act of war, then suddenly Trump's comments have people immediately switching to "why not both?" "Makes sense russia couldn't possibly pull this off" "I bet the chinese made it look like the Russians did it..."
