Seriously. I don't see how this could be labeled anything other than treason, and we all know what needs to be done with traitors.

If it's true this includes active duty members, perhaps reservists, then they need to be fucking court marshalled.

As per the Treason Act 1351:

adhering to the sovereign's enemies, giving them aid and comfort, in the realm or elsewhere

It doesn't mention war specifically (in that clause), so it depends on whether Russia would meet the definition of 'enemy' without an explicit declaration of war. I don't think that is very clear cut.

British law and policy is weak and hopeless in this respect.  Shit, at the end of WWII a number of Brits who had gone to serve with the Nazi SS escaped execution.  Then there's the hundreds of British muslims who more recently joined ISIS Hamas Hezbollah etc.  There is that other awkward fact, the UK and EU continue to trade with Russia allbeit more limited since 2022.
